Dazzle me sparkle - traditional vibrator discontinued by Cal Exotics - review by SelectZen

-Packaging-

The packaging that accompanies the “Dazzle me Sparkle” from Cal Exotics is I am glad to say fairly nice. It is free from any seedy/pornographic imagery. This is always nice with toys as all too often they are adorned with crude pictures of heavily made up models. I like simple packaging and while it doesn’t affect the toy it puts me in a good mood for trying it out. This packaging is see through on the front and shows off the toy while the back has a few toy specifications on it.

-Specifications/Material-

My initial impression was that the Dazzle Me Sparkle was a bit of a departure from design in terms of many toys I had seen prior to it. It looked a little daunting girth wise but also has a somewhat segmented design which for me looked like it would be uncomfortable. It is available in both blue and pink, we chose the pink. It has a total length of 8 inches with around 7 ½ insertable. It has a fair amount of girth with a circumference of more than 5 ½ inches at its widest. Dropping down to about 4 inches circumference at thinnest. The main body of the toy is made from TPE. This is a blended rubber material. This means that it is a lot safer than many lower end plain rubber or jelly toys but still not top grade. It is hypo-allergenic while being latex and phthalates free. However unlike silicone, glass etc it is porous and cannot be sterilised. Ideally you should use a condom with each use but if you are not sharing it shouldn’t be a huge problem. The base/battery compartment is made from ABS plastic. It is powered by 2 double A batteries which are widely available. It unscrews and has a rubber washer in place to make the toy “splash proof”. It is great if you want to use it in the shower but it is not submergible and should not be taken into a bath/pool.

-Use-

The control of the Dazzle is very simple. It operates via a variable speed dial on the base. The higher you turn it the faster/more powerful it goes. The vibrations are not bad but not amazing for the size of the motor. The material absorbs some of the vibration but also some of the noise which is a plus. I must point out that the dial is somewhat delicate and with two separate units of this toy we have had the dial break.

As for insertion, we did not pursue it for a couple of reasons. The design is heavily segmented which make it quite uncomfortable to insert as there is no gradual widening but very abrupt changes of up to ½ inch in diameter. Worse still though is the top segment. There is a very noticeable seam on the top and while testing it in my hands it felt liable to tear. With fairly little effort I was able to pull the entire top segment away leaving the motor completely exposed and about an inch of TPE in my hand. This was more than a little off putting. While it would be worst case scenario I feel that with long term insertable use or with a few particularly rough sessions this could easily come apart inside you. The material has a smooth finish but their is a little drag to it. If you decide you do want to insert it then you will be happy to know that you can use either water or silicone based lubes with the toy.

-Care-

Once you are finished using it, you should clean it with warm water and a mild antibacterial soap or specialist toy cleaner. The fact that it is water-proof makes cleaning a lot easier as you don’t have to worry about getting it wet. For storage we find a zip-seal sandwich bag works best as the material (like many toy materials) can be a real dust collector if left out in the open.

-Summary-

I often try to find the positive attributes to a toy but I can’t avoid saying that this toy is substandard in design. It is heavily segmented with severe edges rather than expansion into gradual bulbous segments. But even if you like the design for insertion and I know people have different body types/likes when it comes to insertion. I honestly feel that this is dangerous to put inside you. The top segment has a bad seam that can and does tear! While the vibration is decent it is nothing you can’t get with a Lady Finger style vibrator. Added to this we had not one but two control dials break on us. It is too big for novices and too poorly made for anyone with a bit of experience. I am afraid I have to defer to the small print here and file this one as “For Novelty Use Only.”
