Insignia Alia - discreet massager discontinued by LELO - review by puppylove

Lelo does a great job at producing luxury toys and Alia is no exception to that rule. Part of Lelo's Insigna line, the Alia is a small and discreet rechargeable clitoral stimulator. Her design makes Alia very easy to hold onto and direct pleasure to either your or your partners erogenous zones, be it the clitoris, nipples, labia, perineum, testicles, neck, or anywhere else you like to massage. Alia can be used all over the body, but she is not insertable. Use her by yourself or with your partner, Alia is up for anything. She is also completely waterproof for fun in or out of the water.

Alia is made from two different materials, silky smooth silicone and gold shinny ABS plastic. The part of the vibrator that comes in contact with the body is silicone, which rates a perfect 10 on the Eden Fantasys' safety scale. Silicone is hypo-allergenic, latex free, non-porous, and phthalates free. It is also odorless and tasteless too. The silicone that Lelo uses is the most silky smooth silicone that I have ever felt. There is the faintest bit of drag to the silicone, but it is barely tacky, and does not attract lint and dust like other silicone toys I have do. The silicone appears to be laid right over plastic, as it is firm and ridged without any bend or flex to it. The inside of the Alia where you grip the toy is made from plastic, which rates an 8 on the Eden Fantasys' safety scale. Plastic boost the same great qualities that silicone does in being hypo-allergenic, latex free, non-porous, and phthalates free. The gold colored plastic is a shinny and hard.

For the most part the Alia is perfectly smooth, there is no texture on the part of the vibrator that is meant to be applied to the body. However on one side of the toy the name "Lelo" is embossed in silicone and on the other side the buttons that operate the toy are slightly raised in the silicone.

Alia is has an egg like shape with a large key-hole in the center, this makes Alia very easy to hold onto. Very small and discreet, Alia is 3.5 inches long and 2.25 inches across and 1.5 inches thick on the sides. The center key-hole is 1.5 inches long by an inch wide.


At the top of the egg-shape the oval Alia comes to a point. Lelo calls this their "pleasure point" as this is where the motor of the toy is located, and the part of the toy intended to be applied to the body. The oval key-hole in the gold plastic center mimics Alia's outer shape. I personally can fit two fingers inside of the key-hole to hold onto the Alia during use.

The shape of Alia is very sleek and elegant, it is also discreet. The Alia also comes with a travel lock, so combine that with the discreet styling and Alia makes a perfect travel companion.

Lelo has equipt Alia with multiple power settings and vibration patterns. There are three buttons on the side of Alia that operate the toy and control these functions. There is a plus sign (+) that turns the toy on and turns up the intensity of the vibrations. Then there is a minus (-) sign that turns down the intensity of the vibrations and eventually turns the toy off, and between the plus and minus there is the Insigna sign that changes the vibration patterns. The buttons are back-lit and light up when pressed.



Once the toy is turned on, pressing down on the Insignia sign (the middle button) changes the vibration pattern. There are 6 different vibration modes for the Alia. They are:

1- steady vibration
2- pulse
3- faster pulse
4- low to high escalation
5- low to high to low escalation
6- random crazy vibration mode

While in any of the vibration modes you can amp up the intensity of the vibrations by pressing down on the plus sign, or decrease the intensity by pressing down on the minus button. Overall the vibrations are a medium intensity, I would rate them about 3-3.5 vrooms. The Alia is whisper quiet, you could use her underneath the covers and a person in the same room wouldn't be able to hear the toy.

The Alia has a travel lock to prevent the toy from accidentally being turned on during travel or storage. Pressing down on the plus and minus buttons at the same time locks the controls, the buttons will light up and once they turn off the Alia is locked. To unlock the Alia, the same thing is done, except the lights will be off until it is unlocked at which point the control panel will light up.

Alia is rechargeable, so no needed to worry about having extra batteries on hand for when the toys dies, or while traveling. A two hour charge will get you 4 hours of play with Alia. The charging port for the Alia is located at the base of the Alia, it looks like a small divot in the silicone, pressing the prong of the charger into the port is a tad bit difficult at first as the silicone seals around the charging port to make the Alia completely waterproof. When the Alia is charging the lights of the control panel will flash until the Alia is completely charged and then the lights will glow steady to let you know that Alia is charged up and ready to play.

Silicone and plastic are very easy to take care of, and Alia is waterproof so cleaning is super easy. You can wash with warm water and anti-bacterial soap, or use your favorite toy cleaner. I prefer either my Eden toy wipes or the Lelo anti-bacterial toy cleaner spray. As the part that goes against the body is made from silicone, you are only going to want to use water-based lubes with Alia. Using silicone-based lubes with a silicone toy could damage the surface of the toy and make it permanently tacky, which would be a shame since Lelo's silicone is so luxuriously smooth.

For storage Lelo has included a toy pouch along with Alia, or you could store her in the fabulous box she comes packaged in.

Alia comes in Lelo's award winning packaging. There is an outer thin cardboard box that has the a picture of Alia on the front and back, with the back panel highlighting all the good features of the toy.



When this box is removed the inner box is a sturdy thick black textured box. The inner box is completely discreet, the only wording on the inner box is the name "Lelo" embossed very small on the lid of the box. If you wanted to give the Alia as a gift you could toss the outer box and wrap up the stylish and discreet inner box.


Inside the Alia is nestled in a black foam cut out, next to her is a flap that lifts up to revel the included accessories, and sitting in the foam with Alia is a gold Insigna broach. With the Alia you get a charger, storage pouch, sample of lube, and two booklets; one for the warranty and the other is a user's manual. Even though Lelo includes a storage pouch, I find that the box itself makes a great storage option for the Alia.

I have really been loving my Siri that I got recently, so I wanted to try another rechargeable clitoral vibe. I went with Alia since I loved the idea of the hole in the middle of the toy making it easier to hold onto when also using a vaginal toy simultaneously. The Alia offers slightly more pin point stimulation than the broad surface of the Siri, yet they are about the same size. The Alia is not as powerful as the Siri is.


Alia has worked out fabulously for me, I usually like broader clitoral vibrators but the point on the end of Alia is still fairly wide and broad. As I do not usually need to use my toys at full power the fact that Alia is slightly less powerful than the Siri does not bother me at all. I still think it is a wonderful toy that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of users.
