Not too precious

The Precious Metal Slim had more spunk than I expected. It's a low-cost option, but in the few months I've had it, I got some good use out of it. Although it is buzzy, the Precious Metal Slim offers an intensity and variety of vibrations better than most other toys in its price class. I would recommend it (with some reservations) to anyone who just wants to see what's up with vibe variety before investing in a pricier option.

The Precious Metal Slim by California Exotics has some surprising perks, but right away, let's put the negatives of this toy on the bedspread:

1) No surprise for a toy of this type and price, the Precious Metal Slim is not an earth-shaker. It's buzzy, tends to overheat, and can only get you so far compared to, say, a wand massager or a higher-end vibe. It also only has one intensity of vibration, so if this intensity is too powerful for you, you won't be able to change it either.

2) This is not a G-spotter. It's just not designed for that because it doesn't have any sort of curve to it. That's also one of it's pluses though, and I'll explain why later.

3) You get what you pay for. The toy gave me some solid short term play, but after a while, the battery cap started falling apart (exposing the microchip under the rubber button), and then it just wouldn't turn on. I tried to fix it with some superglue, but (inevitably) made it worse.

Great things about this toy:

1) You can't beat the vibration options for a toy of this price. As the back of the package says, there are "10 Functions of intense vibration, pulsation, and escalation" activated by the "Easy push button control." And that's pretty much what the Precious Metal Slim gives you. Since you can't change the intensity of vibration, you're pretty much stuck with the middling vibrations I've described in my "cons" section, but the vibration types are really interesting. I find that no matter how many fancy gadgets I get, I always end up sticking to the same boring settings. This didn't happen with the Precious Metal Slim. I really did keep experimenting with different settings until the day the poor thing quit on me.

2) It's waterproof! Take this with a grain of salt. There are definitely places where water can get in (as evidenced by the fact that the microchip on mine is now exposed). However doubtful its ultimate seaworthiness may be, the Precious Metal Slim stood up to submersion for as long as the toy itself lasted.

3) It's a tiny little thing. With a 3/4" diameter and a 2 1/2" circumference, the size of the Precious Metal Slim may seem like a negative to a lot of people. But for those who find the Size Queen targeted offerings a little intimidating for a first internal vibe, the Precious Metal Slim fills a much neglected market. The Precious Metal Slim is, in fact, the same size as medically prescribed dilators for women with vaginismus or similar conditions in which penetration is painful even long after the loss of (vaginal intercourse) virginity. Because it's a toy and not intended for medical use, it can make necessary and often painful vaginal exercises more pleasurable. The rigidity of the seamless plastic also makes insertion easier for anyone who may be using the toy in this way. The fact that there is no G-spot curve also helps in this regard, as I suggested earlier.

Some practical concerns:
Material: metallic looking plastic, rubbery push button (8/10 on the EF safety scale)
Power: 2 AAA-batteries (not included)
Cleaning: Just some soap and water. There aren't any grooves on the part you'd actually be inserting, so most clean-up is pretty easy, especially since the toy is submersible.
Follow-up commentary
The Precious Metal Slim ended up completely broken in a short period of time, and I've had to retire it from my toy box. It was fun (sorta) while it lasted!

Thank you for the review. We had a similar item. It also stopped working after 2 months. Bummer.

I hear you, OH&W. Now I'm a snob and only buy the expensive rechargeable vibes. It's an investment in toy longevity!
