Oh no, Honey Bunch!

The Velvet Touch Ribbed G-Spot Vibe by Doc Johnson is a cheap, rigid, buzzy vibe. It offers very little stimulation when used as a g-spot vibrator. It barely passes as acceptable as a clitoral vibrator. Size queens and the Clit-O-Steel brigade would be left sorely disappointed with this vibrator. However, it may be perfect for beginners who are looking for a slender, non-intimidating vibrator.

Use

The Velvet Touch Ribbed G-Spot Vibe by Doc Johnson is intended to be used for g-spot stimulation. The Velvet Touch is also suitable for clitoral stimulation and all-over body stimulation. The instruction manual includes directions for anal use, however, it is a very slender toy with no flared base so I would caution against using this vibrator anally. If you do use this vibrator anally, be very careful, as no one wants an awkward trip to the ER to have it removed. If you plan to use this anally as well as vaginally, make sure to use a condom that is changed between orifices to prevent the spread of bacteria.

Material / Texture

The Velvet Touch vibrator is made of ABS plastic, which rates an 8 on the Edenfantasys safety scale. The vibrator is latex and phtalate free. Water, oil, and silicone based lubes are safe to use with the Velvet Touch. After opening the box, I did notice a light plasticy smell. The smell is only noticeable when holding the toy up to your face. From a distance, the smell is not noticeable. To be honest, the smell of this vibrator reminded me of the plastic practice pads that are placed over snare drums to muffle the sound of the drum. I realize this is a very specific smell and only a very few people may be able to relate to this, however, if you do know what the practice pads smell like, this vibrator smells exactly like that. There is no taste associated with this toy. As the name implies, this vibrator has a velvety texture that creates some drag so lube is recommended when using this toy for insertion. There is a small seam that runs along the bottom of the toy. It's a very faint seam that can be seen and felt when rubbed, but is not noticeable during use.

Design / Shape / Size

The Velvet Touch is a g-spot vibrator, meaning it features a curve and a bulb end at the top. These are ideal for g-spot stimulation. The vibrator is 7 inches long with 6.5 inches of that being insertable. The top 1.5 inches are the bulb. It's a relatively slender toy. The shaft of the Velvet Touch is only 2.25 inches in circumference and the bulb at the top is 3.25 inches in circumference. The bulb at the top is ribbed, with each rib about 1 cm apart. The design of the toy reminds me very much of a honey stick that is curved.

The Velvet Touch is not realistic or phallic in shape. However, it is fairly obvious it is a sex toy. Because of its small size and non-intimidating design, I would recommend this for beginners. Advanced users, especially size queens, may be unsatisfied with the size of the Velvet Touch.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Velvet Touch is a multi-speed vibrator that is controlled by a dial on the base of the toy. The dial is not overly loose, so it will not change speeds during use if it gets bumped. It's also not difficult to turn the dial. In my opinion, the dial was easy to control with the perfect balance between a loose dial and a tight dial. Even with a dial-base control, I felt there were really only two different vibration speeds and not much variation between them. The vibrations are surprisingly strong for a small toy that runs on two AAA batteries. The vibrations are very buzzy in nature. The buzzy vibrations and hard plastic create a lot of noise. It seemed to me as if the motor was in the shaft of the vibrator as the vibrations were strongest below the bulb on the top of the vibrator. The vibrations are weakest in the top of the vibrator, which appears to be hollow.

This is a loud vibrator. I set this vibrator on it's highest setting on my bed and walked out of my room, closed the door, and stood in the hallway to see if I could hear it. It was easily heard through the closed door while it was on the other side of my bedroom. I would not recommend using this toy if you have roommates who are close by.

I did not test this toy in the water, even though it claims to be waterproof. Looking at the base of my vibrator, I noticed the cap does not screw on completely evenly, leaving a small gap between the cap and the base of the vibrator itself. This would easily cause water to leak into the vibrator. I cannot attest to whether or not this is common in this vibrator or if it's just a mistake in my vibrator. If you would like to use this in water, make sure to check how well the cap screws on to the vibrator.

Care and Maintenance

The manufacturer says this is a waterproof vibrator, however, I would not submerge it in water. This vibrator is "splashproof" at best. If being used in the shower, make sure the lid to the battery compartment is completely sealed to avoid any leaks, which can damage the vibrator. The Velvet Touch can be cleaned with soap and water, your favorite toy cleaner or wipe or isopropyl alochol. Do not boil the Velvet Touch.

The Velvet Touch is a small vibrator, making storage easy. It can be stored anywhere you prefer to store your toys. The instruction manual warns of keeping it near toys of various materials as this can cause a chemical reaction in the toys that will cause a breakdown in the toy's structure. To avoid this, you can simply store the Velvet Touch in a plastic bag in the same area as your other toys. It also will not break if dropped, like glass products may.

The included instruction manual warns that the motor may overheat if overused. To prevent excessive damage to the vibrator, allow it to cool down before storing the toy or using it again.

Packaging

The Velvet Touch arrived in a clear, rectangular, plastic box. The box has blue polka dots on it and the words "feels like velvet, smooth as silk" wrapping around the box. The box also has the Doc Johnson name and logo around the top of the box. The back of the box contains information about the toy in six languages, similar to the instruction manual. The box is not discreet, as it is see through so the vibrator inside is visible. I would not recommend using this box for long term storage. The plastic is flimsy and would not hold up for long term storage.

Inside of the plastic box is a small instruction manual that includes battery insertion instructions, electrical malfunction troubleshooting, instructions for use, diagrams and general warnings. The information is presented in six languages, including English, German, Dutch, French, Italian and Spanish. The print on the instruction manual is very small though, so if you have less than perfect vision it may be very hard to read. Even with my glasses on, I had trouble reading all of the warnings and instructions.

Personal comments

When I first received the Velvet Touch, I was shocked at how small and slender it was. I had never before measured the girth of my toys and after this one measured in at 2.5", I was curious to measure my other toys. My very first vibrator was 4.5" in circumference. I find this to be a perfect girth. The Velvet Touch was seriously lacking in the girth department.

Experience

After looking around my house for AAA batteries, I was eager to try this vibrator. I had never used a g-spot vibrator before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. When using internally, I felt very little g-spot stimulation, even with the vibrator on high. Since the motor is in the shaft, the vibrations are not felt well in the bulb. The ribs on the bulb are also hard to feel once it is inserted. This could be because the toy was much smaller than what I am used to. Internally, it did not do much for me. Using the toy as a clitoral vibrator, I was able to bring myself to orgasm, however, the buzzy vibrations were disappointing. I rated the Velvet Touch as a 2 star toy since I was able to orgasm using it but I did not find it useful for g-spot stimulation.
Follow-up commentary
This vibrator is still floating around the bottom of my toybox. I haven't used it in months. It's just not worth it.
