Use

Dr. Laura Berman Paris is designed to stimulate a woman’s g-spot. As such it is ideal for penetrative vaginal use. As a secondary use, however, it works well for stimulating any external erogenous zone from the tip of your nose to the tips of your toes!

The Paris will work very well for users of all experience levels, provided they enjoy a rigid toy that is small in diameter and bulbed or ribbed along its entire length. It is perfect for solo play, but couples of any gender will also enjoy teasing each other with this user-friendly, non-phallic and unintimidating toy.

Paris is not recommended for anal penetration, although it can be used to stimulate the external anal area.

Material / Texture

Paris is made of Rubber Cote. This is the same material as Velvet Cote, and is just ABS plastic with a velvety finish on it. It receives a safety rating of 8 here at Eden because it is non-porous, phthalates free and very easy to maintain.

The entire surface of the toy is smooth and velvety except for a seam up the middle on one side and down the other. It is not bothersome during use. Paris has 7 bulging ribs along the shaft, adding some extra stimulation for those users who enjoy it.

Paris had a light odor to her when I first removed it from the packaging, but it disappeared quite quickly once the toy was out in the air.

Design / Shape / Size

Paris is an average sized penetrative toy, making it long enough to reach the spots it is designed to reach, while leaving it small enough to store just about anywhere. The curved tip comes to a very tapered end, allowing for very pinpointed stimulation right where you need it and aiding in insertion. The curve allows it to stimulate g-spots with ease, but also makes it a great clitoral vibrator for those who may appreciate an elongated reach, due to size or mobility issues.

It is slim and will easily store or hide almost anywhere. Paris will also slide into your purse or luggage perfectly so you can have fun on the go!

The size is perfect for users of any experience level who are interested in mid-range sized toys. While Paris doesn’t look like a giant dong, it is still not entirely discreet, and it’s pretty clear what its intended purpose is.

Functions / Performance / Controls

My Paris is splash-proof, rather than waterproof, so I would not recommend taking her into the bath or pool. She runs on 2 AA batteries and is controlled by a twist dial control on the base of the battery cap. The twist dial turns counter-clockwise and gives the user a wide variety of options so you can really set her to the strength you most prefer. She has no patterns, just different levels of steady vibration.

Her vibrations are focused mainly in the top half of the toy closest to the tip. They travel somewhat down the handle, but are nearly halved by the time they reach your hand. I did find that my hands got to feeling just a bit numb while testing it out and during the rating process. When pressure is applied the vibrations do not dissipate, they begin to travel into your skin, just not as far as a rumblier toy can. It holds up very well to clenching also.

I always use the Je Joue MiMi as a point of comparison to standardize my ratings for Vrooms and Bees. I also use the MiMi to standardize the buzziness or rumbliness of the toys I test. Using a scale of 1-10 where 1 is the buzziest and 10 is the rumbliest, I would rate the MiMi at about a 7 or an 8. I would rate Paris at about a 5. Not the buzziest toy I’ve ever used by far, but if you prefer good rumble, you might prefer a different toy from the “Intimate Basics” line.

As you can see from the ratings on the chart, Paris is not a quiet toy. I don’t think it would be your best option for a roommate situation, or any situation where discretion with minimal sound is needed.

Care and Maintenance

Plastic toys are extremely easy to care for. For cleaning, simply use warm water and your favorite soap or toy cleaner. If you prefer to sanitize your Paris, swipe it with isopropyl alcohol. Toys made of plastic and toys that have motors, like Paris, should never be boiled or sent through the dishwasher.

Plastic is compatible with all lubes and nearly all other toy materials, so Paris is sure to suit any user’s needs. Its compatibility with other materials also makes it a dream to store. You can easily store your Dr. Laura Berman Paris loose in a drawer or toy box with other inert toys (toys made of plastic, wood, glass, 100% silicone, ceramic, metal, etc.). Storing Paris next to toys made of rubber or compounded materials (jelly, TPR, TPE, etc.) is not advised since those materials do have a tendency to degrade over time. They may damage your Paris over the long-term if touching. Feel free to keep it in an old tube sock, the leg of an old pair of pantyhose, a toy pouch, wrapped in tissue paper or a handkerchief, or any other number of storage options. Be sure to remove the batteries from your Paris before storing it.

Packaging

Paris comes in a basic plastic clamshell package. It opens and closes easily and could be used for your long-term toy storage. The packaging is also recyclable.

The back has some explanations about g-spot stimulation in general, about why Paris is designed the way it is, and encourages female users to enjoy Paris internally while using a smaller toy externally on the clitoris for dual stimulation.

Experience

This is now the second toy that I’ve tried from Dr. Laura Berman’s line. The line is called “Intimate Basics” and that’s accurate. The toys are thoughtfully designed, user friendly, have great instructions included and really are a wonderful entrance to the world of sex toys for new users. If you’re new to sex toys, or if you want to introduce a friend to them for the first time, this really is a great place to start.

*The Good

I like several things about Paris. I generally do not enjoy any texture on my toys whatsoever, but the ribs on Paris felt really good to me, especially during thrusting. The little curve on the tip of Paris allows for really pinpointed g-spot stimulation, which was quite noticeable.

I also like the fact that the twist dial is really tight. Some other toys I’ve used that have a twist dial were very loose, and it was very easy to accidentally turn the dial during use. The twist dial on Paris is tight enough that I never had any issues with accidentally turning it, once I got to the setting I wanted it stayed there quite easily.

Users who have trouble reaching their clitoris with typical, small external toys will likely enjoy the elongated reach Paris provides. The curved, pointed tip will likely help such users stimulate their clits more effectively too.

*The Not Quite As Good

I only have 3 real issues with Paris.

1) She’s not actually waterproof. I’ve had this happen with other toys made similarly. Even though an o-ring is on there, it just doesn’t quite keep all the water out. I don’t ever use my toys in the tub, but it can lead to complications during the cleaning process if you’re not careful.

2) She’s very rigid, and has a very pointed tip. When I wasn’t being careful, it actually could get a little painful and stabby feeling. A good piece of advice: use caution when thrusting with this toy, just as if you were using a glass toy. It can rough up your g-spot if you aren’t careful. I would have preferred the tip to be slightly less pointy on this one.

3) While inserted, vibrating, and being thrusted Paris has a tendency to spin. Since the outside looks completely uniform, it is impossible to tell just by looking at the shaft if the curved tip is still pointed towards the g-spot. Inevitably, I would pull it out only to find that it was off to the side or completely turned around backwards. That’s not necessarily a problem, so long as it feels good! If you want to make sure and keep the curved tip facing the right way, I would suggest making a small mark down on the handle by the battery cap with a permanent marker. That would be a small visual cue to help you know if it’s facing the right way.
