Don't Get Caught in a Rut

Variety is the spice of life...and that is especially true in the bedroom. This 392 page book is full of fun ideas for the whole year. Intended for hetero couples, it features both position and foreplay suggestions. It's a good reference book when you're craving a little extra zing.

extremely useful review
Most couples experience ruts in their sex lives once in a while. You know the drill. You touch here. They touch there. Kiss. Kiss. Stroke. Stroke. The script is followed and bada-bing bada-boom you're done. Roll over and go to sleep. It might not actually be bad...just routine. The good news is that it is easy to spice things up. Daily Sex is a great book with lots of ideas to bring a bit of zip.

This book is designed with heterosexual couples in mind. The subtitle proclaims 365 positions and activities for a year of great sex! It does exactly that. Many of the days are position suggestions. It has positions not only for vaginal intercourse but also fellatio, cunnilingus, and manual sex. Many position books focus only on intercourse so the oral and manual positions are helpful. Besides positions there are activity suggestions for foreplay. It'll have you experiencing light bondage, adding a vibrator, using a feather, and moving out of the bedroom.

While there are lots of ideas, they are mostly fairly vanilla sex. I know. I know. Everyone's idea of vanilla is different. If your idea of vanilla sex is lights out missionary with the occasional cowgirl or doggie thrown in, this book just might blow your mind. If your idea of vanilla is a variety of positions with some interesting ideas for foreplay, the ideas in here could expand your repertoire. If you're looking for more than vanilla ideas, pass on this book. It does not include suggestions for anal sex, fetish play, or any kind of extreme play. Having said that, I like this book. It's easy to flip through looking for inspiration. And we are mostly a vanilla kind of couple.

The book layout is a bit different. It is divided into months, but numbers them as Month 1, Month 2, etc instead of naming them as January, February, etc. Each month has 30 activities. The pages end up with labels like Month 6 Day 4. At the end of the book are 7 bonus pages for the 7 months with 31 days. Because February's month has 30 activities instead of 28, the book actually has 367 days. Even if you skip one or two suggestions, you will still have a full years worth of ideas. That little bonus is cool. Each month has its own index with just the titles in chronological order. Since it doesn't have a category index, it's impossible to quickly look up foreplay ideas, or oral sex positions, or doggie style variations. That's my biggest quibble with the book. I really wish it was easier to search.

Each page has a catchy title and a drawing. The black and white drawings are explicit enough to demonstrate the position/activity. I like the fact that the bodies are realistic sizes. No stick thin models here. Each page also has a detailed written explanation. It's easy to read and the directions are easy to follow. Also on each page is a thermometer rating the activity. None of them are filled out yet. It's up to the couple to decide whether each item is cold, warm, not, or sizzling and color it in.
Experience
I recently celebrated my 24th anniversary. After all that time I know a little something about ruts. I appreciate any book that gets the mental juices flowing and then the body juices flowing as well. We usually use the book just by flipping through until we find something interesting. Sometimes we just randomly open the book and do that page. I doubt we would ever spend a year systematically going through it- but that would be possible.

I think it's a great reference book. We keep it on a nearby shelf so inspiration is never far away.

Happy 24th anniversary. Sounds like a fun book to have even if you just open up a page and attempt what is on there. Thanks for sharing!

Cute idea; sorry it's been discontinued. Maybe they will release one of those page-a-day calendars with a tip on each page.
