Dream Lover

If you are trying to get into erotica this might be the book for you. It has more of a supernatural element that eases you into the stories. While I wish there was a bit more sex, it really was a great read. I am blown away by how creative the authors got with story ideas.

About author

Dream Lover:Paranormal Tales of Erotic romance has 17 short erotica stories each by a different author. This book is edited by Kristina Wright who is sited to have received the Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart Award. In the back section of the book there is contact information on each of the writers and a small paragraph about each of them. Some of these authors have a fantasy paranormal writing past which was nice to see.

I have never read too much erotica prior to this, so I am kind of glad I started with something a little more my style that was so grounded in the weird and paranormal.

Content / Style / Audience

I must start by saying the introduction to this book was lovely. It talked about fantasies being safe because they were in your head, and you can find the potential in everything.
But at the same time a fantasy with a paranormal spin leaves you thrilled at the thought of the danger of being ravished by a monster with fangs, or a ghostly touch. This really set the mood for the book I was about to read.

The first story focused around a women who was being "haunted" by a ghost. To keep him in solid form he had to make love to her repeatedly. In another a mermaid who had forgotten her past life comes across an old lover. He helps her remember who she really is and figures out where do they go from there. There are also stories about gargoyles, buildings that are almost alive, vampires and demons.

But over all most of these stories were more about love and less about erotica. And in most of the stories it was the man who was a supernatural being--I kinda of hoped there would be more on the flip side.

Design

Your typical paperback book. At first look it might not seem like an erotica book until reading the title. Each story takes up about 15 to 20 pages. The font, and spacing is really nicely put together.
    • Soft cover
    • Well made

Experience

It was a really quick read, which was nice. While some of the stories were misses for me, a lot were hits. Some of the creativity was outstanding--I was really worried it would be a book of all werewolves and vampires before I opened it. I could have done with a little less lovey dovey but it was still a very pleasant read.
