Enough about my children already

If you are a married working woman with children, this book would be perfect to help spice things up. It offers a lot of tips on how to pretty much work around having a job and children. The constant referring to "the kids" and "husband" can get kind of annoying if you are not married and have no children, though. In my case, replacing "kids" with "cats" can make it work.

extremely useful review
For the past couple of months, I have been having difficulty becoming interested in sex. I am taking birth control pills, which I took a couple weeks off of to see if they are the cause of this; of course they are. So until I can switch to another pill or something, I made the decision to try out a book that seemed helpful.

“Love Your Sex Life! The Busy Girl’s Guide to Getting Busy” contains a lot of useful information, including tips to make you feel sexier without actually doing anything life-changing, how to make time for each other, and tips for both sex and foreplay. This book is aimed specifically at women in a relationship with a man. It also feels to me like it is aimed more at couples who have children. The section towards the end that offered solutions to common problems, such as why it all ended too fast or what could be causing pain during sex, was pretty informative; however, it did not help me much in my case. I also found the information on getting fit and comparisons of sex and other physical activities interesting.

The book measures about 7 ¼ inches by 5 ½ inches. It is hardcover with a paper book jacket over it. I felt like the book jacket slid off a lot easier than other hardcover books, which could be fixed with some tape. There are 223 pages, many of which have illustrations on them. The font is large and easy to read. Quotations and tips are in different colored and sized font in order to emphasize them. Overall, the book is well put together and looks like it would make a good gift for a friend or family member.

After reading the book from cover to cover, I found it quite informative, but not useful for me. A lot of the tips they offered were close to things I already do or something too far out there for me to do, such as writing love letters. I would probably find it more helpful in like 20 years when I am married and have kids. I’d have to say, the main idea of the book is breaking out of the “usual” and trying something new to make you enjoy your sex life more while feeling better about yourself. If anything, page 100 has a list of 9 things no one wants to hear in bed. They are pretty funny, even though I am guilty of trying to get the cat to get in bed so I could pet him once.
Follow-up commentary
I have not actually reached for this book since the first time I read it. I like to reread my other books I have received when I am bored, though because this one is aimed for older couples, it has just been sitting on my shelf gathering dust :(.

I have a date idea book from Redbook and it is also aimed at couples with kids. A bit annoying since it was heavy on that!

Glad to see another review from you!

Sounds like it'd probably be good for me then!

On a random note, Redbook is a magazine for middle-aged married women. So the couples/husband thing makes sense. (I'm totally guilty of reading the magazine too.)

Great review. This just got added to the wishlist. I didn't know it existed. If you liked this one, 10 Ways to Stay in Lust was great too.

Thanks for the heads up about, y'know, the whole "this is targeted at baby-havers" sitch.

This makes me want to write a "Sex Tips for Cat Ladies" book.

I'd definitely give that a read. Cats do tend to get in the way.

I am surprised at Redbook--I would have thought that they were more of the "Mrs. Cleaver" and "Donna Reed"--and let's not forget, "Harriet Nelson" !!!
