The New InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook looks like an upscale gourmet cookbook, so I was somewhat surprised to see recipes in there calling for cake mix and other prepackaged ingredients. However, I soon realized the benefit of having recipes that vary in complexity, as it means that anybody can enjoy making at least some of them, regardless of their kitchen skills or culinary background.

I am very disappointed that there aren't any pictures of the prepared recipes, though. When going through a cookbook, I often rely on the photos of finished dishes to help me chose what I'd like to make. Seeing an example of what I'm aiming for is very helpful.

Still, I've had pretty good luck with the recipes I've tried out of this book thus far, so I'm definitely glad to have it. I think this book would make a great gift, as even people who don't cook can enjoy looking through it.

Okay, the photography is still beautiful and all that, but this is really more of a "coffee table book" than cookbook. I did try a few more recipes, but the lack of pictures showing the finished dishes got on my nerves. I need to know what I'm striving for.
