Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage review

A great book if you've seen or heard of Japanese bondage but don't know how to begin performing it. Nicely illustrated and explanatory, but it's definitely a beginner's book and doesn't go into advanced techniques and positions.
Published:
Pros
Clear, friendly, enthusiastic. No previous experience is assumed.
Cons
This book is strictly for beginners, and does not go into the more advanced rope bondage techniques.

This book begins with the beautiful Craig Morey photograph on the front cover, and he also illustrates each position detailed inside, but this is not primarily a book of images. Instead, it is a well-written beginner's guide to Japanese rope bondage|Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage, copiously illustrated with excellent line drawings accompanying the detailed descriptions. No presumption of existing knowledge is made, and everything is explained from the beginning.

The text is matter-of-fact, practical and detailed, explaining not only the specific bondage techniques|BDSM Guide but also such aspects as the setting of the scene and the experiences of both top and bottom partners. General as well as specific techniques are discussed in a friendly and approachable manner. Clear safety instructions are included, both in a general section and specifically for individual positions and techniques.

The book begins by discussing the aesthetics and historical context of Japanese bondage|Japanese bondage rope review, followed by covering the nature of a BDSM scene. Following that, a section on rope helps the reader choose the correct ropes for the bondage, including how to obtain them; how long they should be; how they should be cared for; and other tools and equipment needed. Safety concerns and basic knots are then covered.

After this, specific positions are dealt with; these comprise about two-thirds of the book, divided into seven sections, each of which discusses a particular type of tie and its variations. Clear line drawings, one or two per page, accompany the description and make things a lot clearer for the beginner. Adjustment for fit and to correct undue discomfort is frequently mentioned.

After the individual positions, the book closes with suggestions on how to end a scene, aftercare, hints for successful and efficient untying of the ropes, and what to do if there are problems. The comprehensive instructions and clear diagrams left me full of confidence that I would be able to perform these complex ties correctly. I can't wait to try them out!

What could they change to make it a 5 star book?

Would you say this is a useful guide for the "average" person interested in rope play, who doesn't have pulleys and rings mounted in their walls and ceiling?
  • Contributor: Alana Hawk
I would say that including a few more poses would make this a five star book.

I would definitely say that this is perfect for someone without hardware mounted in their walls and ceilings.  Really only one of the poses would require any sort of mounting, the rest could be done extemporaneously.

Just curious but do the illustrations involve Asian models?
  • Contributor: Alana Hawk
A few of the models are Asian, but not exclusively.
