Sex Toys 101 review

I would never recommend this book to a man, especially one trying to find himself in the sexual world. It would be the first I would recommend to a woman for its detail and appreciation of the subject.

somewhat useful review
I have been very eager to get this book in the mail all week. I must admit after a read through that I am mostly disappointed.

Let me start with the bad. I am a male, and although I understand the point of view of the authors, the "male" section is very poorly assembled in relation to the rest of the book. True it is that many of the toys may be used for male stimulation as well as feminine fulfillment, but their discussion of toys for men|Sex toys for men is merely a notch above neglectful. After multiple chapters about how a dildo does not lessen a lover's presence in bed and how it shouldn't compromise the sexuality of a woman, I find it distasteful that they suggest superiority to the term "pocket pussies|Pocket pussies." Ultimately the authors express the feeling that the sort of product would be a detriment to their clientèle. This, of course, brings up a number of issues politically and sexually, such as the right of women to feel comfortable shopping for their erotic merchandise. I am all for feminism, equality, and individual rights, however the male chapter comes off as soapboxing, and mere reference to all the other chapters, lacking many actual details about cock rings|Cock Rings, penis pumps|Man's guide to Penis Pumps, and completely ignoring tools designed for prostate stimulation|Prostate stimulation sex toys.

My second gripe is that I noticed how meticulously labeled each image was, brand, model, etc. The goes very far in even mentioning the brands of condoms draped of dildos. Lo and behold, at the back of the book is the phone number that may be used to purchase all items in the book. I know they own a sex store, but this made me feel as if I had just purchased a sixteen dollar catalogue.

The pluses just barely earned the three stars. By a hair. The advertised products are nicely photographed, and the colors are vibrant and downright beautiful. Then information for many of the toys is not unique, but well composed and organized. The chapters make sense, for the most part, and are well ordered. The two standouts are the side bars, which provide interesting sex tips|Sex Guides and Tips, and the anecdotes that are humorous, informative and well placed in the context of the book. Had any one of these point been missing, the book would have two stars rather than three.
