Best Gay Erotica 2010 - book discontinued by Cleis Press Inc. - review by Foxxy Kitty

As a lover of all things erotica, I was excited to finally get my hands on Best Gay Erotica 2010. As with all erotica anthologies, there's a plethora of excellent writing and story telling by a myriad of authors that bring their own style and twist into their stories of gay sexcapades. In all, there are 18 stories, and the anthology itself runs at 193 pages. It's not too long, so one could quickly read this anthology in a period of two weeks (perhaps even longer depending on which story really gets your juices flowing).

The fetishes or sexual kinks that are explored throughout many of these stories are anallingus, bottle insertion or some other form of extreme insertion, anal, BDSM, and some fecal matter. I liked how there was much variety in where and how these male lovers/play partners explore with each other in the stories. Some of the places where sex is explored is in a jail, in a dingy motel, a trailer, etc. There's also some variety in the characters background ranging from supermodels, college kids, to married men. The pace of the stories generally are very quick; each story at most is between 2-5 pages.

Being that this anthology is targeted towards gay men, you won't really find too much in there actually being some build up before the sex. Not that it is a bad thing; some of us prefer that straightforward WHAM-BAM-THANK YOU MA'AM (or in this case, SIR) style of fucking in our erotica. However, at times it became redundant with most of the stories feeling as if there wasn't much of a story to tell, or that the story could have been more fleshed out. In some of the stories, the sex just happens, and it ends just as quickly as it began. Some of the stories even go so far as to put a little too much detail into trivial things and not enough detail into the actual sex scenes. Overall though, the style of writing in every story was done so well that you can forgive the story for its shortcomings.

You'll for certain find yourself reading a couple of stories more than once. You might even be familiar with some of the authors that are included in the story (if not, there's a whole authors section so you can read more about the author). I was all in all pleased with this anthology. What I particularly liked the most about this anthology was that all of the stories were believable; you can tell that many of these stories were or could be based off an actual sexual experience instead of just a fantasy. After all, some of the best erotic stories are based more off fact than fiction, and that is what you will find here.
