Illume velas de casa - mood candle by Illume candles - review by Holly Wood

I've been a big fan of Illume Candles since they first came out and they were shopping them around to boutiques on Melrose Avenue. This one is most certainly one of my favorites in their extensive line!

The Velas de Casa Candle in Flor del Sol comes in a very pretty etched jar and you'll be amazed by the scent before you even light it! When you open the box, the smell wraps itself around you and instantly relaxes! It's light enough to burn throughout the house (particularly due to the peachy-melon scent), and a deep enough scent to set your mood in the bedroom (most likely the bergamot scented undertone in the candle)!

The mustardy yellow color, while it appears odd to some, is bright and summery and really does go with just about any setting and scheme you may have working in your home. Once the candle starts to burn down, you'll notice that not only does the candle melt smoothly and without residue on the jar, but also that the flame creates a pretty glow throughout the remainder of the candle and through the swirly floral design on the jar. It's really pretty to see in the corner of a room or on a higher shelf.

The wicks burn slowly, but with that, they burn a little bit sooty, as well. I freeze my candle before first using and trim the wick down to just under ¼ inch to avoid most of the soot issue and to make the candle burn even longer! I seriously burned it every evening for probably two weeks from the time I got home from work until bedtime... and all day on my days off! This candle really stood the test of time, and now I have a beautiful little etched jar for my tea lights and votive candles, too!
