Cute Compact

I wish that these came with different themes because they are very cute and easy to use. This is a great compact because it has a bit of everything and is easy to toss into a purse and go. I really appreciate the sturdy case, magnetic closures, and mirror because it is great for traveling or freshening up on dates. While it's not the highest quality, you get a great set in a very sturdy package!

Use

This is an adorable make up set that it great for on-the-go girls or those who want a small but nice gift. The package implies that it is intended as a gift for a bridesmaid in a wedding, and I agree that these would be an adorable addition to a gift-bag for the special women in your life.

Though small, this comes with three different types of makeup. The gloss is shiny and pink and is intended to be worn on the lips. It would be great to smooth over a lipstick you wanted to give a bit of shine, or if you don't want to get all made-up but still want to feel dressy.

The eyeshadow is very nice and isn't exceptionally shiny. It would be great to wear to work or play, and it gives more of a natural, contoured look than most eyeshadows I have used. I use it when I wear darker hues and don't want my makeup to seem unnatural.

The two colors of blush are very nice and offer a lot of variation. There is a very light pink and more of a deep maroon color, and both give very different looks. You can also layer them to achieve a desired intensity or you can play around with highlighting and lowlighting different areas of your face.

Overall, this is a great compact to use on the go. I would recommend it if you're spending the night on the town or going on a short trip and don't want to lug around a large set of makeup.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of the lip gloss is what you would expect from a drug-store quality makeup set, but it feels very nice after applied. After running the included brush over it, it grabs onto the brush and the brush leaves a mar in the pot. On your lips it is a bit tacky, but not as much as some tubed glosses that I have used. You also can use your finger to apply the gloss in a hurry because of the soft consistency. You can't feel the sparkles at all.

The blush is very easy to pick up with a brush and fairly powdery. Simply by touching my finger to the surface I come away with powder stuck to my skin. It may leave some fall-out if you are trying to be particular with where you put it, but it is easy to get a large amount on a brush at a time.

The eyeshadow is a similar consistency to the blush, but is a bit more pigmented. Again, you may need to place a tissue under your eye or wipe around your eye after application due to fall-out, but using a smaller brush and some type of primer makes it about average. The eyeshadow may wear off in several hours if you use a primer, but I found with a primer it stayed vivid and where I put it all day.

Taste / Aroma

The lip gloss has no scent at all, which may be a let-down if you like more exotic glosses. It also has no taste at all. This means that you won't be tempted to lick off your lips like some yummy cosmetics tempt, but you also don't get any added kissing appeal.

The eyeshadow and blush both have a similar 'makeup-y' smell that is dry and chalky. It may be the talc scent that comes through, because it also smells similar to baby powder. It is not at all unpleasant, and you can not smell it when you are wearing it. The compact itself only is fragrant when I hold it under my nose, so I give it good ratings in this area.

Performance

This product lasts quite a long time, in all of its different functions. While lip gloss isn't intended as a long-term lip product, I found that on its own it lasts for about an hour and a half before I have to reapply, and a bit longer than that if I wear it on top of lip stick. Of course, if I am eating or drinking it dissipates much faster because I ingest, lick, and wipe it off. Overall, this is a nice gloss that keeps your lips looking pink, plump, and shiny. I personally like the medium shade of pink the best on its own, but all three colors will flatter most skin tones. The lightest pink one is a bit more opaque and matte than the other two, so I tend to like this when I wear more sophisticated outfits.

The eyeshadows are moderately good quality and are comparable to Maybelline and Cover Girl brand eyeshadows. A primer is recommended for long-term wear and it really helps to brighten up the colors a bit. I found that the lighter, almost pink shade is the most matte and again, it looks the most professional. They all are talc based, which is a much cheaper base than what some of the more high-end stores use. Personally I wouldn't want to take a $30 makeup kit to a party with me, so the cheap-but-looks-nice formula is great for this set.

The blush is also talc based and is a bit more lightweight than the Cover Girl blush I usually use. It blends very nicely, but at the same time it is more prone to fade. I found that using a primer or foundation under this blush really helps it to stay better. The light and dark allow for a more personalized shade, and I feel that these colors would look nice on most fair-to-medium skin colors.

The brush it comes with is very cheap, but again this means it won't be a tragedy if you happen to lose this compact. When at home I use a different brush to apply the makeup, but on the go this works fine. The lip gloss brush it a bit small and pointy and takes quite a few applications to cote my lips, but the larger, broad side is great for the eyeshadows. I usually apply the blush with my fingers because using a pinky fingernail sized brush over my cheeks and face is a bit inconvenient.

Packaging

The packaging of this is very cute. The compact is a 2x3x.25 inch rectangle and is made out of a hard cardboard. On the front is featured three silhouettes holding bouquets and the words "For my beautiful bridesmaid." I don't think that you could use this easily as a gift for another occasion because of the blatant packaging, but if you or your loved ones don't care this is great for any gift or occasion.

The inside consists of a foam inset connected to the bottom of the compact that holds all of the pots. The makeup itself is held by thin, metal rectangles that are secured well to the bottom cardboard of the package. On the top part is a small, plastic mirror that seems to be tough. It shows a reflection accurately and does not distort anything in front of it. The entire thing is held together by magnets.

Overall, it feels like you paid more for it than you did, but it's obvious that you didn't get it at Sephora or a high-end store. I really like how tough the packaging is and I prefer to take it with me because I find that plastic ones tend to get cracked in my purse.

Experience

Personally, this set was not quite my style. I usually go for more bright and cheery colors (as most have seen in my video reviews) and rarely wear lip gloss at all. The quality of this was what I usually use, however, so it is still staying in my makeup arsenal. I use it more when I wear darker colors, and the lip gloss when I want to dress up and look more feminine and playful.

The lip gloss tends to kiss off on my boyfriend a bit, which he isn't thrilled about. He says that he wishes I didn't wear it, but he does think that it makes my lips more shiny. I usually use this to toss in my purse because I won't cry if it disappears!

If I had a friend who was into makeup I would suggest this set, but only if I knew that they were used to using drug-store quality makeup like myself.

Even though I am not thrilled by this set, for $15 you get a lot of variety and it will work with most people's skin tones. Because of this I am rating it 5 stars.
Follow-up commentary
This face pallete is still my interview or formal eyeshadow of choice. I normally wear bright colors that attract attention, but when I need to go for a more natural look this is perfect.

I love the consistency of the eyeshadow, but I find that I rarely use the blush and haven't used the gloss since I reviewed it. This is likely because I'm not big on lip gloss and the blush is hard to apply with the brush they have me, but the colors are too small for a normal blush brush.

Overall, I still highly recommend this.
