Do Me Doggie Style!

This kit from Pipedream isn't meant to be the be all end all of doggie style positional aids, but it is a great starter kit. It includes both the positional strap and a collar/leash, and everything is pink. The neoprene foam is soft and supportive, and enough to let you know if you want to invest in something more extensive in the future.

Use

This Doggie Style Training Kit is fairly self explanatory as to what it is, but for those who aren't entirely sure; it's a kit. That helps you achieve the doggy style position. The really nice thing about this kit is that it really does help maintain that position with ease, and without the need for other position aids in most cases.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material

In this kit you get three pieces: the position strap, a collar and leash, and a free eye mask.

The free mask is made of a satin type material, most likely a polyester. It's about 7 1/4" across and 3 1/3" tall. It features 2 elastic straps that run behind your head and keep the mask in place. While it doesn't keep out all light, letting in a nice pink glow, it does do an admirable job of blocking your vision and only having a small gap along the side of the nose. My head is about 21" around where this sat and it was comfortably tight. A few more inches would be fine. It's not something that would warrant running right out to buy, but for a freebie it's pretty nice.

The collar/leash and strap are made of a combination of a thick neoprene foam and a nylon webbing, all pink. The 1/16" thick foam piece on the strap is about 19" long and 3 1/2" tall. There's a nylon strap that runs across the back and leads to the handles. The straps that come off of each side are both adjustable, letting you adjust not only where the handle is, but also how big that handle is. Whether you want something like a wrist strap, something big and wide that your hand can easily find, or just a single 19" strap you can grab onto, it's doable.

The collar is made of the same pink foam that the position strap is. It's also about 19" long, but is only 1 1/2" tall. The collar is adjustable based on the size of your neck with 3 different snaps. My neck is really small at just under 13" around, and on the smallest setting there's enough room for me to tuck my chin into the collar as well. At the largest setting, it measured about 17" all the way around the inside. On my husband's 17" neck, there was surprisingly still a decent amount of room. Nothing huge, but he didn't feel like he was choking. On the opposite side from the snaps, the leash attaches. A 4" section of pink Nylon secures a solid metal ring in place that the leash attaches to with a clip. The leash is adjustable in the same way that the straps on the side of the positioning strap are, giving you a potentially 25" long leash, or the option to have a handle to hold onto as well.

Both the positioning strap and the leash look really cheap, but are surprisingly sturdy. The foam isn't all that pleasing to the eye, but on the skin feels nice and soft. The color makes them look fairly pretty, and the first thing you should end up losing on this set are the little white clips that adjust the nylon webbing straps.

Performance

Everything worked exactly how it was supposed to, which was pretty great. The strap that went under my hips was easy for my husband to adjust and get to a good spot for him to hold me up. It was comfortable to use the entire time, and held itself in place nicely when my husband would let go to tug on the leash. The collar was fairly comfortable, but it held all of the folds that were given to it when it was put in the box for sale. While the position strap did the same thing, it flattened out with my weight on it. The collar didn't because it was a little big on me. There was also the problem we ran into where having the leash hang down the front seemed counterproductive to him pulling it from behind. If you're putting a dog on a leash the ring and clip are in the back, and that's what made the most sense to us, so that's how we used the collar and leash. For experimentations sake we tried it how it's positioned on the box, and that led to more awkward tugging and "hey I can't really breath" moments. Something the collar did that I didn't expect was to provide a nice supportive chin rest if my neck gets tired and I'm wearing it while sitting down.

Packaging

The packaging isn't discreet by any means, but it's not overly tacky either. There's a bunch of pictures of a man and woman demonstrating different positions and a rundown of all the fantastic things about this set according to Pipedream. There weren't any instructions inside the box, but the pictures on the outside of the box give you a good idea of how you'd use everything.

Care and Maintenance

You really shouldn't have to do much to maintain this. If you end up getting anything on it that you want off, you can spot clean it with a damp cloth and maybe some mild soap if the stain or smudge is particularly resistant. For storage, you can put it back in the box, or you can store all the components in a drawer. If you store them folded, the foam will hold the shape of the fold.

Personal comments

Some quick pictures for you showing everything all together, a side view of the strap, a close-up of the collar, and a close-up of the adjuster clips.

Experience

I've flip flopped my feelings on this set so many times. The very first time I saw it I tried requesting it as an assignment and it wouldn't let me. So I sat and stared at it, day after day, waiting until I could get it - either as an assignment or as a purchase. I got my chance to review it and waited with anticipation for it to arrive, and tore into it as soon as it showed up. Upon opening the box, I was met with disappointment. I had already had a momentary lapse of judgment in thinking that the awesome top the lady on the box was wearing would be inside the box, and did a facepalm after I thought about it a little more. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting when I opened the box, but when I did and saw that everything was this foam, I was really sad. But I trodded on and gave this a fair shot anyway, and I'm really glad that I did. Everything about this set let us know that we definitely want to try more better built versions. That's not to say that the foam pieces here aren't well built, because this set isn't going to fall apart any time soon, but it's not exactly sexy.

My overall thoughts on this set; if you're looking for a nonthreatening introduction to a doggie style positional strap and a collar/leash, this is a great set for that since everything comes all together and isn't scary at all.
