Joy jelly review

Joy Jelly is a low-priced alternative for those who like flavored lubricants, but I would personally recommend spending the money and investing in a higher quality product.

Can anyone say “ick”?

Joy Jelly is the first lube my husband and I ever used, 15 years ago. I was 21 and a novice, and picked it up for its passionfruit flavor. I have rather horrid memories of the stuff, but I picked up a tester-sized tube to give it another try after all these years. Unfortunately, my opinion hasn’t really changed.

Joy Jelly|Personal Lubricants: Joy jelly by Doc Johnson is a flavored, water-based lube, so it can be used on a wide variety of toys. WHY anyone would want to, however, is quite beyond me! The lube is gloppy, tacky, and VERY sticky, both during and after use. This is genuinely one of those lubes that will send you running for the shower before your last orgasmic quivers are faded. Yes, it’s THAT sticky.

The flavor is… passable, I suppose. As I said, we tried the Passion Fruit flavor, originally and for the sake of nostalgia. It has a very sweet, fruity taste that is not horribly unpleasant or anything. My main complaints are that it leaves a greasy feeling on the tongue, a sticky feeling around the mouth, and has a rather synthetic flavor that actually causes some numbing sensation on the lips and in the mouth.

On the plus side, Joy Jelly does come in a wide variety of flavors, and is a low-priced flavored lube. It does provide adequate lubrication for intercourse or toy play, but I found I sometimes needed to reapply it frequently because it became too sticky. Also, this is one lube that requires some serious clean-up—nothing short of a full bath or shower made me feel clean again. I was sticky from my belly button halfway down my thighs. No damp towels or baby wipes will get rid of this stuff, and forget about it absorbing into the skin. Soap and water are a requirement for effective removal. Also, I found this lube to be slightly more irritating than some better-quality lubes (though, in its defense, I didn’t pick up any UTI’s or anything from using it). All in all, not my favorite.
Follow-up commentary
Good selection of flavors. Poor execution. This stuff is a walking yeast-infection in a bottle for me (and I'm not prone to them).
