V is for Very Average

V markets their water-based lubricant as being high quality, long lasting, and good for sensitive people. In reality, this is a very average lube. It has a nice feel, and uses a natural ingredient as a preservative, but it doesn't last very long, is too drippy for me, and contains glycerin, which is a problematic ingredient for many people. I think they should have spent more time and money on formulating the lube, and less on producing a fancy brochure for it.

Use

V Water-Based Lubricant is best for vaginal use, for those who just need a little extra lubrication to get started. It isn't a great choice for anal play, handjobs or male masturbation because it will dry up pretty quickly without added moisture or when exposed to air. Since it is water-based, V is compatible with condoms or with any toy material. It is paraben free and hypoallergenic, but contains glycerin, so women prone to yeast infections may want to avoid it. See the Personal Comments section for a full listing of ingredients.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

V is about the same thickness as olive oil, but it has a silkier, non-greasy feel. It's not the runniest lube I've ever used, but it's thinner than I'd prefer. It is easy to pour from the bottle. When I applied it directly to my toys, it dripped off and onto the bed. It starts out very slick, but quickly begins to absorb into the skin. After it absorbs, it leaves the skin feeling very soft and moisturized, with no unpleasant residue.

Taste / Aroma

V is not scented or flavoured. It has a very light scent. It reminds me of unscented hand soap - barely detectable, but with a slight clean smell. The taste is also light, and is a mixture of sweet and bitter. It's not very pleasant, so you'll probably want to wipe it off before performing oral sex.

Performance

V works fine for me for vaginal sex and toy play. A dime sized amount is enough to help ease the initial insertion. After a short time, my body begins to produce natural lubrication which adds to and re-activates the lube, so that I don't have to reapply. If your body doesn't start to produce natural lubrication you will probably have to reapply quite often, and I wouldn't recommend this lube to you.

V doesn't work very well for handjobs. My boyfriend liked the initial texture, but we found that it dried up too quickly when exposed to the air. I had reapply it about every 3 minutes, which was a bit annoying. I'm used to being able to make it through with one application of the lubes we usually use (System Jo and Wet Synergy).

I have not attempted to use this for anal sex, because I don't think it would work well for that at all. I need something thicker and longer lasting for anal thrusting. I have used it to insert a butt plug, and it was ok for that, but I still would have preferred a thicker texture. I also wouldn't recommend it if you're planning on wearing a butt plug for a longer period of time, because it will absorb or dry out and make removal difficult.

As I mentioned, V absorbs very nicely into the skin and feels like a moisturizer, so I didn't feel the need to clean it off after. It does come off easily with water or a wipe if you prefer to remove it.

Packaging

V comes in a simple but classy looking bottle that is gender neutral. It is mainly clear, with a blue band and white writing. It is fairly discreet, although it does say "lubricant" in small letters on the front. The back has product information, directions, warnings, and ingredients.

The bottle has a flip top that is easy to open. The opening is a good size to let you get out a usable amount without making a mess. I haven't had any problems with the bottle leaking, even when stored on it's side. I received the 4 oz bottle, so it's pretty small (about 5" top to bottom) and could be used for travel.

V came to me in a plastic bag, along with a large pamphlet. Large as in about 8' x 8' and 14 pages long. It doesn't contain much useful information and is mostly filled with pictures and over-exaggerated claims about the product. For example, they say it outpreforms all other premium lubes, feels like a fine facial cream, and that the bottle fits in with fine perfumes or colognes.

Personal comments

Ingredients:

Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin (Vegetable), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Linocera Caprifolium and Linocera Japonica Extracts (Honeysuckle.)

V says that their lubes are made from natural, gentle ingredients and that they use organic and botanical ingredients where possible. For example, instead of using parabens as a preservative, they use honeysuckle extract. They also say that they use the minimum number of ingredients, and don't add things like Vitamin E or Aloe since they are used in tiny amounts that don't actually add anything to formulation, and are just there for marketing.

V Water-Based Lubricant is supposed to be hypoallergenic and formulated for sensitive skin, but they also make an Ultra-Sensitive Lubricant that has the same formula except for the glycerin. I checked out the V website's FAQ's and saw that they claim glycerin does not cause yeast infections and is safer and gentler than alternative ingredients. I find it strange that they produce a special glycerin free formula while still claiming that glycerin doesn't cause any problems.
Follow-up commentary
I've been keeping this lube around, thinking I could use it for toys that I just need a tiny bit of help getting in, but I should probably just get rid of it. I have several bottles of lube that I prefer, and will most likely never actually end up using this.

Sorry that this was kind of a letdown! We also hate lubes that don't last long. Hope you have more luck with your next one!

Great review! After reading some of the hype, I just thought it would be better.
Surprised that it took so much effort for a handjob......

Yeah, I'd never heard of this company before the lube was assigned to me, but after reading the brochure I was expecting a lot better performance.
