A big F for failed fantasy

The fun concept of the halter top, tie, and mini skirt with suspenders caught my attention to choose this outfit. However, the flimsy, tacky mess I ended up with did not resemble the better made outfit sported by the model. The company produced such a cheap product, my school girl fantasy turned sour!

Overview:

The name “Teach Me Love School Girl Blue” by Espiral Lingerie is self-explanatory; it is a blue colored fantasy outfit meant to entice your partner with a young and naughty school girl appeal. It’s made of three components; a halter top, a tie, and a mini-skirt with suspenders. Although you could get away with wearing it anywhere, I high recommend against it. Unless you want to wear flimsy, ill-fitting clothes and look incredibly tacky.

After looking at the sexy and playful pictures of this outfit on Espiral’s lingerie models, I was determined to be a naughty school girl myself. My expectation was crushed.

Please note that the white stockings on the model are not included, so you will have to buy your own to complete the look. It also doesn’t come with any matching underwear or the hair ties.

Design, texture:

The material is 93% polyester and 7% elastan. It has a jersey-like consistency but the fabric is thin.

Single-stitched together by 3 pieces of the same fabric, the halter top is pretty stretchy. The back piece is stitched to two pieces in the front. The two front pieces are sewn together in the center and scrunched in the middle by a piece of drawstring made of the same material.

The bottom component is comprised of a skirt with a black waistband and suspenders. Both labels on the skirt and top state 93% polyester and 7% elastan, though I’m not sure if the skirt is made of the same fabric as the top. I find the halter top and the waistband’s black fabric much more elastic than the skirt. The skirt itself is made of a blue, black, and silver plaid-patterned fabric. The suspenders are of adjustable length and made from the same fabric as the skirt.

The metal buckles on the suspenders are intended to connect together to form a sunflower. The base of the flower sits on the skirt, while the center of the flower is connected to the suspenders. Users are expected to loop the center into the base, and the extra pieces of metal should stop the center from getting unhooked. The buckles on the suspenders are very poorly designed. With every slight movement they would come apart. For example, just when I fastened the right strap, and I reach to fasten the left one, the right buckle would have already come apart.

It makes me wonder if the designer of this lingerie even knows basic sewing techniques or how to make simple clothes. All the decorative components are double stitched. On the other hand, all the connective components are single stitched. Therefore, areas that are under stress because of movement are weakly linked together. I only tried on this outfit twice so far, and some strings are coming loose and some seams are splitting already. This product has no durability, and is definitely not designed for long-term use.

Size and Measurements:

I ordered size Large. The measurements are as follows:
9.5” length from bottom of skirt to top of waistband
54” circumference of skirt at the widest point (bottom)
29” circumference of waistband, unstretched.
Suspenders: adjustable length between 25” to 50”
27” circumference of halter top, unstretched.
6” height of halter top, unstretched.

Referencing the Espiral sizing chart, the range of sizes available is extremely small. They only cover bust sizes from 34-40”, waist sizes from 25-31”, and hip sizes from 34-40”. I know a lot of women who fall outside of this range, either smaller or larger. Not only do they expect a tiny piece of cloth that is 27” across to stretch to fit a 38” chest, they also expect the single-stitched center to hold when that happens. When I simply measure the halter top against a ruler, 17” across (34” circumference) is the maximum I can stretch this thing, without damaging the seam in the middle.

Packaging and cleaning:

Teach Me Love School Girl Blue is wrapped in cardboard inside a plastic bag with a hook on top for shelf display. A picture of a model wearing this outfit rests in front, while models wearing other Espiral Lingerie decorate the back. The packaging is not discreet; it’s obvious that it’s lingerie.

Inside, another layer of white cardboard separates the lingerie into 2 layers. The bottom layer contains the halter top, whereas the skirt and tie are on top. It is very difficult to squeeze the lingerie back into the original packaging. You will not be able to place everything back into the packaging after opening it.
According to the inside care instructions label, only hand wash the garments and air dry. Do not bleach, iron, twist, or machine dry, as they will likely ruin the fabric.
Experience
When I tried this on, there was no support from the halter top for my breasts. The fabric is very stretched out and translucent, revealing the underlying skin color and nipples. Although my boyfriend claims it’s hot, I am pretty sure this is not what the manufacturer intended. It looks like it would come apart any minute.

The tie is tight around my neck and not very comfortable. Due to the lack of a fastening mechanism, hand tying a knot uses up even more fabric. This is not suffocating because I have a small neck, although I imagine it would be a problem for others.

I have the most problems with the skirt. The suspenders are so badly designed, it is a futile effort to wear them. The garment would be much better off without the suspenders altogether. My boyfriend and I pretty much gave up trying to make this work for us. We are so caught up attempting to make everything stay in place, that there is no room left for a sexy mood.

I am completely convinced now that the lingerie model is wearing a different outfit than the one I received. The color on the packaging is much lighter of a blue, while the collar of the neck tie is also much thicker in the picture (at least by an inch). The tie I got is so light and thin, it flips around whenever I move, instead of staying close to my body like a regular polyester or silk tie. The company couldn’t even bother with a sturdier tie. There is no fastening mechanism around the neck; you have to hand tie a knot.

Follow-up commentary
The teach me love school girl outfit sits quietly in a corner of my closet. Honestly, I haven't touched it since my review. I thought about cutting off the suspenders and making it more wearable. I guess there was just not enough motivation for me to spend more time on it.
