Maid for fun - costume discontinued by Espiral - review by Ms. N

I asked some of my male friends, "What is it about the French maid that is so alluring?" I received a variety of answers, like the foreignness of being a French maid, the thought of having someone at your beck and call, and having someone ready to meet your every want, need, and desire. That, plus the typical French maid costume makes housekeeping, or the fantasy connected to it, look very sexy. That is certainly the case with Espiral's Maid for Fun costume.

The Basics

This French maid costume comes with four pieces: the dress, a head piece, and two wrist cuffs. The black and white dress is made from 97% nylon and 3% spandex. The bodice features white cap sleeves and a wide, rectangular neckline. The material covering the bust is white, double-layered for discretion, and trimmed with 1/2" white lace (excluding the neckline). The center of the bust features two rows of black eyes laced with a 1/4" black, satin ribbon. Below the bust, there is a centered, 3" wide, vertical, white, single-layered stripe of material that extends from under the bust down to the skirt. It is trimmed on the sides with the same lace that decorates the bust. At the point where the skirt attaches to the bodice, there are two 3" white, faux pockets, each accented with a black button. The the rest of the dress is solid black. There is no bust support, and the dress slips on easily over the head.

The head piece is a white, plastic band with teeth. It is topped with 2" white lace decorated with the same black ribbon as is used to lace up the bust.

The wrist cuffs are stiff, white nylon that are in the shape of an isosceles trapezoid when open. They close using two coordinating pieces of Velcro that are on the inside of the cuffs. For decoration, they feature the same black buttons as the skirt pockets.

Sizing and Measurements

EdenFantasys offers Espiral's Maid for Fun costume in four sizes: small, medium, large, and XL. According to their size chart, the measurements for a small are 34-25-34. For a medium, the measurements are 36-27-36. For a large, they are 38-29-38, and for an XL, they are 40-31-40. Personally, I am a 42-34-40, but I figured that with the stretchy material making up this costume, I would be okay with the XL.

The length of the dress is 31" from top to bottom. Even if you are short in stature, you are likely to be showing a bit of cheek, so make sure you have some cute panties on hand...or not. The dress is 17" across the bust, 13" across the waist, and 17" across the hips (unstretched).

The wrist cuffs are 7 1/2" at their shortest point and 8 1/2" at their longest point, and they are 3 1/2" wide. That sounds good, but that is before you figure in the Velcro fasteners. There is only 6" of material between the two pieces of Velcro, so if your wrists are bigger than 6" around, these cuffs will not fit.






Packaging, Care Instructions, and Storage

This set came enclosed in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box. The front of the box shows the front of the costume, and the back of the box shows the rear view. The box shows that the piece was made in Columbia, should be washed separately and drip dried, and should never be bleached. You could store the whole costume in the box, but I choose to store the accessories there while hanging the dress in the closet.

I can find very little negative to say about this set. I found the wrist cuffs to be a bit tight on me, so I will probably not wear them much. The head piece is relatively comfortable for what it is - a piece of plastic with a bit of lace attached to it. As for the dress...I adore the dress. I have about a half dozen costumes at this point - some from Eden, and some from elsewhere - and this is by far my favorite. The nylon and spandex stretch to make it fit very comfortably. The fabric is thicker than a good number of items I have bought here, meaning it isn't quite as see through as other pieces I own. That is always a good thing. You can wear a bra with this piece, as long as it is a strapless one - the cut of the neckline precludes wearing a bra with shoulder straps as they would definitely be visible.

Speaking of the neckline, I find it to be very sexy. The rectangular cut allows ample cleavage to show, as does the lacing on the bust. It is very flattering to "the girls." The cap sleeves are adorable, and the color blocks of black and white are very effective in drawing attention to all the right places. The vertical stripe of white down the center of the front has a slimming effect. Who doesn't like that? The skirt is short, which allows for a lot of leg to be shown. You may choose, as I did, to add some stockings and heels to the look. You can also add a petticoat to fluff the skirt up a little, if you would like.

The material, in addition to being thick enough to not show too much underneath, seems to be pretty good quality. The stitching appears to be very well done in all areas of the dress. I didn't find any loose threads or areas where the lace was loose at all. As I said, aside from the cuffs, I find this set to be just about perfect.









How alluring is the French maid? When my SO heard I had purchased this piece, he was begging to see it. Now that he has, he wants to see it again and again. This French maid costume fits the bill for role play...it's cute, sexy, and comfortable. As per my SO's instructions, future travel plans will include having this set in the suitcase!

For me, this set gets a full five stars!

I am still impressed by the quality of this piece. It shows no sign of wear, even after several washings. It looks as good as the day I got it, has had no shrinkage, and is still a lot of fun to wear too. I expect to enjoy this piece for years to come.
