Crop top and short - bra and panty set discontinued by Magic Silk - review by Breas

The Crop Top and Short Set by Magic Silk is available in sizes S/M and L/XL. I purchased the size L/XL. The outfit came in a rectangular cardboard box. The front of the box states the company name, product name, and has a photo of a model wearing the outfit. The back of the packaging shows a few other outfits by the brand and states the material and care instructions. You could use the box for storing the outfit but I just keep mine in a drawer. The packaging can be recycled.



Inside of the box, the outfit is in a sealed plastic bag. There was a cardboard tag attached to the top with a photo of a model wearing the outfit and it stated the company website. The two pieces are 90% nylon and 10% spandex. The material has a bit of stretch. Both the top and underwear have stretchy elastic trim and both have pink ribbon accents.



I’ve taken measurements of the two pieces laying flat, unstretched. If you need additional measurements just let me know and I will get them for you.

Panty
Waistband unstretched: 11 ¼ inches
Waistband stretched as much as I could: 26 inches
Length of panty (taken down side): 2 ½ inches
Length of liner: 4 inches

Top
Chest unstretched (armpit to armpit): 13 inches
Chest stretched as much as I could (armpit to armpit): 25 ½ inches
Width beneath chest: 11 inches unstretched, 25 inches stretched to the maximum
Length of chest area: 4 inches
Length of top: 7 ½ inches

When I first opened the packaging to see the product, I knew that something was different about it from what I was expecting. I went to the product page to take a closer look at the stock photos and there definitely is a difference. Firstly, the ruffle trim along the top of the breast area is much shorter in length that what is shown in the stock photo. Secondly, the material looks completely different. You can’t even see the lace holes in the stock photo, as if it were a solid, sheer material.



Lastly, while this outfit has a floral pattern to it, it is not the same as the stock photo pattern (and it’s not as nice). Oh, one other small thing to note, in the stock photo it appears that the little bow at the centre front of the panty is hot pink or red… it’s actually baby pink like the rest of the ribbon accents.

I find it very frustrating when a stock photo is altered that much. It makes me mad! I decided to continue to review the product anyway because I figured that maybe it would look good on me even though it wasn’t what I was expecting.

So as I had mentioned, the lace material has a floral pattern to it. Both panty and top are made of the same material. The top is strapless and has elastic band around the top of the piece and directly below the chest. There is ruffle trim along the top of the piece and goes all the way around to the back. This trim is approximately ½ an inch at the longest point. The ruffles sit on elastic band so the more you need to stretch this part of the top, the less ruffled it appears. The same goes for the longer ruffled area directly beneath the chest.

At the top centre of the top there is a keyhole cut out and it is in the shape of an upside down triangle. The keyhole is approximately 3 ¼ inches long and 2 ¼ inches wide at the top. There is a pink ribbon accent at the top centre of the keyhole, which can be tied into a bow. There is no padding or under wire in the chest area of the top.

The panty has a liner in the crotch area (see measurements above). There are three pink ribbon accents to the panty: one little bow at the top centre and 2 ribbons on each side of the panty that can be tied into bows. The waistband to the panty is elastic and there is ruffle trim along the top of the panty. The ruffle trim is the same length as the bra ruffle trim. Like with the bra, the more you need to stretch this area, the less ruffled the ruffles will look.

The overall quality of the set is rather low. There were many loose threads and when you look up close at the make of the outfit, it just looks like the manufacturer didn’t really care. These are things my partner would never notice if I were wearing the outfit, but they are still important to note.

So I tried the outfit on and I was not impressed. I wear a C cup and my chest fit into the top but I don’t think it’d be very comfortable for anyone with a cup size larger than mine. It was irritating without shoulder straps because my heavy chest was weighing the top down. I had to keep pulling it up. The material itself is not uncomfortable. It’s not that scratchy lace that some lingerie can be made out of.

The ruffle trim along the top of the chest no longer was ruffled when I was wearing it. I guess I had to stretch it so much that the ruffles disappeared. The panty was equally as awkward. The panty fit and covered my bum nicely but the front looked odd. The little flaps of fabric that makes the panty look like little shorts sat awkwardly on my thick thighs. Instead of the flaps making the panty look cute, it looked like I had a saggy front panty. The words “saggy” and front of panty” are never, ever sexy when placed together.

The care tag instructions and the packaging instructions are different from each other. The packaging states that the outfit can be machine washed in cold water and tumble dried on low. However, the care tag on the outfit states that it should be hand washed in cold water and dried flat. The outfit should not be bleached.

I’m giving this outfit a 1 out of 5 because there were too many things wrong with it: quality is not good, quite a few differences from stock photo, saggy front on the panty, not good for anyone above a C cup, and the ruffles disappear when you need to stretch the outfit.

I actually got rid of this outfit. The title of my original review was dead on-- "one gigantic no". This outfit didn't work for me originally and had absolutely no potential to ever work for me and my body. I see that this outfit has been discontinued since my original review. I'm glad. This means that no one will make the same mistake I did by purchasing the outfit.
