Lace back corset and thong - corset discontinued by DreamGirl - review by Breas

The Lace Back Corset and Thong by DreamGirl is available in sizes 32-44. I purchased the size 38. The corset arrived wrapped in hot pink tissue paper. There was no other packaging to the outfit other than a cardboard tag attached to the corset stating the company name with a photo of a model wearing the piece. I keep my corset on a hanger in my closet.



The corset is red and black in colour and is 100% polyester. The material to the corset is thin, but it is not sheer. There is no stretch to the material of the corset, though the width can be adjusted with the lacing down the centre back of the piece. I’ve taken measurements of the piece laying flat, with the lacing at the back done up tightly (no gap between the lacing). If you need additional measurements, please let me know and I can get them for you.

Corset
Chest (armpit to armpit): 17 ¼ inches
Length of corset, taken down centre front: 16 ½ inches
Length of corset, taken down centre back: 13 inches

The corset has one row of hook and eye closures down the centre front of the piece. There are 15 eyes in the row. The corset has 8 boning pieces in it; 4 down the front, 2 down the back, and 1 on each side. The boning is a flexible plastic. The shoulder straps are halter style- they tie behind the neck. The ties are a wide black ribbon with a width of 1 ½ inches and a length of 23 ¾ inches each.

There is trim on both the top and bottom of the corset. The trim on the top is only at the front of the piece, while the trim at the bottom goes around the entire corset. The trim has a crochet look to it and is black in colour. The trim along the top is just a bit under ¾ inches in length. The trim along the bottom is much lengthier, measuring in at 2 ¾ inches long. The lacing down the back of the corset is a thin slippery string. I find it difficult to tie a secure knot into the string because of its slipperiness. This lacing can be replaced with a ribbon or less slippery string.

The corset comes with four black garter straps and a matching thong. The garter straps are adjustable and detachable. The loops to attach the garter straps are on the inside of the bottom of the corset so if you choose not to wear them, it doesn’t look awkward. I rarely get any use out of included garter straps because I like wearing my corsets out in public beneath a cardigan or similar item.

The included thong has the same pattern as the corset and has a lining in it. The waistband is elastic band is ridiculously stretchy. I found the thong to be comfortable though the width of the front material is rather thin.

To put the corset on, it’s best to have someone help you tighten the lacing down the centre back but you put the corset on by yourself if you do not have anyone around. When I need to put the corsets on by myself, I loosen the lacing down the centre back just a bit, then put the corset around my body and see if I’m able to do the hook and eye closures up at the centre front. If it doesn’t fit, I’ll loosen the lacing at the back a bit more and try again. I’ll continue doing this until I’m able to do the hook and eye closures up.

I found the length of the corset to be perfect. Since I wear these sort of pieces out in public, I don’t like when my hips or tummy are showing. With this piece, the length covers my hip and tummy area very well. The chest area of the corset does not have any padding or underwire. I found that when I first put the corset on, my boobs are flattened. You’ll have to do a bit of adjusting (pull your boobs up and in) if you don’t want them looking flat.

The halter straps are very lengthy and I didn’t have any issues with them. The ribbon is actually quite comfortable sitting at the back of my neck. The only issue I have with this piece is the terrible string that laces the back up. It’s way too slippery to tie a good, secure knot with. Also, I find the thin shoelace-like string to be ugly.

I’ll definitely be replacing it with a nice black ribbon. Below are a couple photos of me wearing the corset. The first photo is a front view and the second is a side view. I’m not sure what happened with the flash in the first photo but the second photo shows the colour more accurately. It has a bit of a shine to it.



The material to the corset is comfortable and non-irritating. I don’t have any complaints about the material bothering my skin while wearing it. The care tag states that the outfit should be dry cleaned only.

I’ve deducted only one star from the rating for the ugly, slippery string for the lacing at the back of the piece and also the fact that it should be dry-cleaned only. I’ve read in other reviews of different lingerie pieces that when a care tag states that it is dry-clean only, it can actually be gently hand washed instead. This is what I will most likely do. Other than the replaceable string and the care instructions, it’s a gorgeous outfit that I’m very happy with.
