Black sequin dress - mini dress discontinued by DreamGirl - review by mistressg

This dress came in a plastic bag one a hanger, like so:


It is covered in sequins, but the sequins are not super metallic and weird looking. They add just a little bit of flash, which I think is really nice. Also, they don't seem like they will just fall off, which is another plus. Also, because all of the sequins are pretty small, the dress seems to flow and move really well. I know that a lot of times with sequins, clothing can seem kind of stiff; that isn't an issue here.



The inside lining of this dress is very comfortable, it is a black, almost satiny material that is very breathable.


The dress is made in China, and it is 100% polyester. One thing that might put some off is the fact that the care tag says dry clean only. Personally, I think that's unrealistic. I have other items that are dry clean only, but that can't always be done, and is costly. I think that hand-washing this one would be just fine; again, it feels sturdy.

It fits true to size. I got it in a large, which is the size that I usually wear in anything pretty much. This is meant to fit a size 10-14. The Dream Girl size large is supposed to fit a C-D cup with a 36 - 38 bust, 28-30 waist, and 38-40 hips. I am a C or D cup, depending on the bra, and my measurements are 38-30-38. This fits me very well! I like that it is a little bit smug in the bust area on me; not in a way that is tight or uncomfortable, but it accentuated the bust. If you are bigger than a D cup, you might find this a bit tight in the bust area. This is really best suited to anyone with a D cup or smaller.

One thing that I really like about this is that I got it with intent to wear it as a shirt. I am tall, about 5'9" or so, and most things that are marketed as mini dresses tend to fit me as though they were shirts. I wasn't going to be let down if I couldn't wear this as a dress, that never happens, so I wasn't even expecting to be able to. I figured this would be a fun shirt to wear out, and it's black so it wouldn't necessarily be super flashy even though it is covered in sequins. However, much to my surprise, I COULD wear this as a dress! I tried it on and it actually is a reasonable length to be a mini dress! I was so happy about that, it was a nice unexpected surprise. This dress is about 34" long, and it comes to a few inches below my butt. I wear all of my dresses and skirts with tights anyhow, so it's not like I would need to wear tights with this solely to make sure I'm covered. I feel like I would be able to wear this wear a pair of leggings or tights and feel totally comfortable, and it would be a very easy outfit to pull together and throw on.

I really like this dress, and the fact that I can wear it as a shirt OR a dress. I like that this is black, so it's not super flashy and can be a "little black dress". After I tried this on, I instantly went to order the same dress in the ruby color. I think this would be a lot of fun in red, and be a nice pop of color. Sadly, it was out of stock in my size. However, I intend to order it as soon as it's back!

The only thing that might bother me even a little is the fact that when my upper arm brushes against my body, the sequins on the body of the dress can feel rough on my skin. Though, that is not really a huge fault.

I still like this and have worn it out as a shirt a few times now. I'd really like to get it in red, now that it's back in stock, but I'm pretty short on cash lately. I wish to get it soon. This is great, can be a dress for a night on the town, or a fun tunic to add some sparkle to an outfit. I'd recommend this, it fits well and looks great.
