Ship happens - costume discontinued by DreamGirl - review by Breas

I loved the Ship Happens costume by DreamGirl as soon as I had seen it. The outfit is available in size S-XL. I ordered the size extra large.

The outfit arrived in a thick plastic bag attached to a hanger. The bag has snap closures. There is a cardboard insert inside of the bag which states the included contents, costume name, company name, size, company website, company contact information, and has a photo of a model wearing the outfit. The bag is excellent to use for storage, though I don’t use the bag to store the costume. I like using these bags for stockings, lingerie, undies, etc.



Inside of the bag, the hat was individually wrapped in its own bag, and the dress was wrapped around a piece of cardboard. Both the hat and dress are 100% polyester. The hat does not have any stretch to it, though the dress does. On the packaging it states that the outfit is best suited for those within the weight brackets of 160-180lbs (the XL size). I’m around 165 lbs.

In the stock photo, the model is wearing a red petticoat beneath the dress (the red ruffle that is showing beneath the dress). This is not included with the costume. The stockings are also not included.

The hat has two elastic loops on the inner area of the hat. I think that these loops are if you want to attach a string to the hat to secure it to your head (I’m not sure though). There are two thin ribbons that run around the entire top of the hat. At the centre front between the ribbons, there is a thick, red bow. The hat is a one-size-fits-most item, so it should fit most heads (see width measurement above).



The sleeves are a sheer mesh material with elastic band at the ends of them. The more the elastic band needs to be stretched, the less ruffled the mesh looks at the bottom of the sleeves. There is a cute red bow at the end of each sleeve.

The chest of the dress has underwire and padding in each of the cups. There is a red bow between the cups. I am a C cup and I found the cups rather small in the size XL. My chest fit, though they did feel a bit smushed. Usually with XL outfits, I have a bit of breathing room; there is no breathing room for my C’s in this outfit. At the bottom of the dress (on the skirt), there is a pattern of stars and anchors with red bows on them. This pattern is only at the front of the skirt.

The back of the dress has a ribbon which laces up but it seems to be more for show rather than adding/subtracting width from the outfit. The material bunches up beneath the lacing when trying to tighten it (subtract width) and when loosening the lace well, the material will only stretch so much regardless of the lacing.

The material was really soft and comfortable against my skin. I don’t have any complaints of irritation, etc. The dress care tag states that it should be dry cleaned only. The hat care tag states that it should be hand washed in cold water and line dried.

As for my experience with the dress…well, it was okay. As I mentioned above, my C cups seemed to be a bit too overwhelming in size for this outfit. My chest felt a bit smothered.

I’m 5’6 and the length of the skirt was fine, though I’m not sure how comfortable I would have felt wearing this in public. If I bent over too far, my bum would show. It would be fine if I were to wear leggings, but not without. If you’re taller than my height, you may have a bigger issue with the length of the costume.

The biggest problem I had was that the sleeves kept sliding down my arms. In the photos below, you can see in the last photo that the sleeves slide down. The underwire in the cups didn’t sit beneath my boobs because the cup was so small. So when I tried pulling the chest area down, the sleeve area didn’t want to sit properly.



I’ve decided to give the outfit a 4 out of 5. I’ve deducted a star because of the small cups, which caused other problems with the outfit. Other then that, the outfit is cute if you have a smaller chest to fit into it.
