The Aphrodisia Crystal Butterfly is a dual-action vibrating dildo and clitoral stimulator with multi-speed options. It’s meant to be inserted into the vagina while the butterfly sits on the clit. There is an easy-to-use knob on the bottom of the toy to adjust the vibration level. This toy can be used for internal and external stimulation simultaneously or individually, though I found the easiest way to obtain clitoral stimulation alone was to use the head of the dildo with the vibration on. It was difficult to only use the butterfly without having to insert the rest of the toy. This toy can be used for solo masturbation or can be used on a partner.

The crystal butterfly is a waterproof “jelly” toy made from TPE (thermoplastic elastomers) and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) materials, or rubber in layman’s terms. The packaging doesn’t expressly say the toy is latex free so those with a latex allergy should err on the side of caution. The material is smooth but also “clingy”, meaning fibers or hairs will stick to it easily.

This toy is a typical rabbit-style design with a dildo and attached clitoral simulator that looks like a butterfly with antenna. The dildo is smooth without any bumps, ridges, or a defined head. The tip is slightly angled upwards. The butterfly wings don’t do anything for me, personally, all the action is at the head of the butterfly and the antenna! The size is approximately 6” long and the diameter seems on the smaller side. This could be a good thing for beginners new to inserting toys or those not looking for much girth and/or on the tighter end of the spectrum. This would be a drawback for anyone who wants more girth or wants to feel a stretch. I found myself missing some of the girth but was still able to enjoy the toy. I also wanted the toy to be a little longer because at times it wasn’t deep enough and I don’t always like my hands getting messy when I’m using toys. The material is colored but transparent so the internal vibrators and wires can be seen. I didn’t mind this feature but some people may prefer a more opaque toy.

The crystal butterfly has two bullet vibrators encased in the head of the dildo and the butterfly connected by wires that run to the base of the toy. There are no pulsating options; it only goes from low to high intensity vibration. The vibrations were strong on the highest setting but not too intense and the volume wasn’t too loud. If you have music or the TV on it should cover any noise the toy makes. The dial at the base of the toy is easy to use, though I found myself accidentally adjusting the vibration level while holding it, which was frustrating at times.

One of my main issues with this toy was the lack of directions on how to put in the batteries. There were no written instructions or diagrams so it became a matter of trial and error to figure out the correct way to put them in. The batteries also moved when I twisted the lid closed and ended at a slight angle, which could be bad for the batteries after prolonged use.

This is a very low-maintenance toy (a plus for me)! The instructions for care are clearly marked on the back of the package. Cleaning can easily be done by washing the toy with liquid antibacterial soap and water. The material is porous so I would recommend using a condom if this toy will be shared. The packaging indicates to use lubricant for best results, though I found that was not necessary for me. I’m still trying to figure out the best method for storage because, while the toy can be kept in the packaging, it’s bulky and doesn’t fit into small areas easily. This toy requires two AAA batteries (not included).

The toy comes in clamshell-type packaging that clearly shows the toy and is easy to open. Instructions for care are clearly marked on the back of the package but there are no instructions or graphics to show intended use. There were no instructions on how to insert the batteries, which I found very frustrating.

My experience with this toy was decent. It has pros and cons and overall feels good but the design is not my favorite. I wanted it to be a little longer and thicker would like more localized stimulation on the clit. The vibration is stronger than I’ve felt with other toys but I occasionally wanted that to be stronger too. I think this toy is a good option for beginner to intermediate-level folks but can be fun for more advanced toy users as well.
