Cobalt Seduction

Elegant in design and pleasant to use, the Body and Soul Seduction is overall a wonderful product to have and use. Its texture is stimulating without being overwhelming and its quality is high without being expensive. I would definitely recommend this vibrator to beginners but feel that advanced users will enjoy it as well.

Use

The Body and Soul Seduction by Cal Exotics is, quite frankly, an internal vibrator. Although you can use it externally, it probably will not provide stimulation as pleasant as some external vibrators provide. It is meant for internal use, specifically in vaginas.

Vibe

I would caution against using it anally due to the lack of a flared based, but probably get away with it if you bought one of those nifty contraptions that gives your dildo a flared base.

Though texture is something generally not recommended for beginners, I feel that this toy is great for users of all experience levels. Whether you're a beginner to sex toys, a beginner to texture, or an advanced user, this toy can work for you. The three gentle ripples feel great while inside and provide stimulation to various parts of the vagina - ones which other toys often ignore.

The design is classy, making this toy perfect for those such as myself that prefer pretty-looking toys over unattractive ones. You can use it both solo and with a partner; for added fun, have your partner use it on you! It is not intimidating due to its pretty appearance and thus can probably be used as an introductory toy for couples just starting out with vibrators.

Material / Texture

Although the Seduction appears to be metallic, it is actually made out of PU-coated plastic. It is non-porous, latex- and phthalates-free, food-grade, and hypo-allergenic. Despite this, the material safety rating is only 7 according to Eden's scales. The feel of this toy is very smooth, but it does still require lubricant to glide effortlessly against the skin. The button is the only silicone present on this toy.

There was no give to the Seduction due to the hard plastic material. It is neither sticky nor soft, instead having the rigidity and feel of other hard plastic toys. Keep in mind that this toy is not as smooth as other ABS Plastic toys due to the coating, feeling rather soft against the skin instead.

The texture of this toy consists of three smooth ripples, protruding about a quarter of an inch from either side. They are not evenly spaced out - the first two are closer than the later two. These can definitely be felt during use, but are in no way overwhelming. This is significantly smoother than most other textured toys and can serve as a great introduction to texture for those interested in it but hesitant to try. Texture lovers, on the other hand, can gauge for themselves if this texture will work for them. There are two seams on opposite sides of the toy, but they are smooth and can hardly be felt while in use.

There was a very "plastic" smell when I opened this toy, one which did not go away until I washed the toy several times. It did, however, go away with time. There was a slight taste, but this faded after the first several washes.

Design / Shape / Size

The Seduction is roughly 7 inches long with 5 1/2 or so inches being insertable. It has three ripples along its shaft, measuring at about 4 1/2 inches in circumference at the widest. At its narrowest, the Seduction is about 3 1/2 inches in circumference. I feel that this size is good for users of all experience levels - not to difficult for beginners to use but not so small that advanced users will complain. However, if you are a fan of large girths, this is not the toy for you.

Comparison - Pen

The toy is nice to look at. The colors are intense and metallic-looking finish is aesthetically appealing. The ripples, too, are not intimidating. However, if someone were to see this on a desk, I doubt they would not recognize it to be a sex toy. If you were to remove the batteries, though, it would be suitable for travel.

The design is ergonomic. It is easy to hold and use without causing any craps or discomfort in your hand. If my g-spot was easier to please, this toy would probably hit it with the ripples. The tip is perfectly curved, making insertion easy without the downside of being pointy.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls consisted of a single button. Pushing it once turns on the vibrator, pushing it again changes the setting, and holding it for several seconds turns the vibrator off. It remembers which setting you were on when you turn it on again, which is convenient if you only like one of the settings, but can be a pain if you like to start at the lowest setting and build your way up.

The settings are:
1. Low steady vibration.
2. Medium steady vibration.
3. High steady vibration.
4. Speeding up pulsation (a couple slow, a couple medium, a couple quick).
5. Quick pulsation.
6. Ten or so strong slow pulsation followed by very quick pulsation.
7. Three quick pulses followed by one to three slow pulses.
8. Steady medium pulsation.

I wasn't particularly fond of any of the patterns, but I'm generally not a fan of patterns anyway (unless they're based on the music I'm listening to or "random"). The low speed is actually more of a low medium than a regular low, and the high more of a high medium; there as much variation between the speeds as I generally prefer.

The vibrations are louder than I would prefer. They're not loud per se, but they can be easily heard by anyone in the same room or even across a very quiet house. As I have thin floors (the existence of which I will never understand), I can only use this toy with background noise on. It emits a strong buzzing noise, though, which I fear can carry even with something on in the background. I don't like any noise over two bees, so for me, this was the biggest deal-breaker.

The vibrations are also fairly buzzy - not as much as most buzzy vibrators, but still buzzy. On a scale of 1 (very buzzy) to 7 (very rumbly), I would give it a 3. I did not find this buzziness numbing. The vibrations are strongest in the tip and only carry well to the second bump.

Open

I'm fairly certain that this vibrator eats the two AAA batteries that you give it. I would estimate its battery life to be a little over an hour (since the batteries I had designated for it died after three twenty-or-so minute test runs), but be sure to always remove batteries between uses. Do not remove the little paper insert in the battery compartment, as this is what keeps the batteries from rattling all over the place. The battery compartment, though easy to open, is a pain to close due to how the cap always seems to want to go on diagonally. I am not entirely sure what causes this effect, but it's become really annoying - of all of the times I have opened the toy, I have only been able to close it on my first try once. Every other time, I would realize that the cap is diagonal when I am almost done twisting it on.

Cal Exotics promises that this is waterproof, but I do not see an O-ring. The really annoying twisty part might be enough to ensure that this toy is waterproof, but I cannot say that I am entirely convinced. I also was not willing to risk my rechargeable batteries to test this, but I have heard other people claim that it is entirely waterproof. Regardless, it is splashproof enough to allow for easy cleaning and to probably survive a shower.

I did find that this vibrator begins to heat up after fifteen minutes of use. This is not enough to burn you, but still annoying.

Care and Maintenance

ABS Plastic with PU coating is compatible with every type of lubricant. If you want to be safe, you can always spot-test somewhere near the handle, but you should be fine. I would try to avoid getting silicone-based lubricant on the silicone buttons though, as the two might react.

You can clean this toy with your favorite toy cleaner or with soap and warm water. Because this toy is waterproof (according to Cal Exotics), you do not have to worry about wetting it as long as the battery compartment is closed. You can also wipe the toy down with isopropyl alcohol or a 10% bleach solution periodically to try to disinfect it a bit. Be careful with the latter two, though, as they might degrade the coating with time. Although plastic is more or less non-porous, you should still use a condom when sharing, just to be on the safe side.

Storage is a breeze. You can simply throw this toy into your toybox (or sock drawer, or wherever you keep your toys), but be sure to remove the batteries before you do! For added protection, I keep mine in a ziploc bag, as this prevents scratching and protects the silicone button while also reducing dust. This toy is not a lint magnet.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store
    • Low maintenance

Packaging

My packaging arrived beat up. I blame the padded envelope that it was on, as this was the most likely culprit. Moving on, the packaging consists of a white cardboard box with a photograph of the vibrator on one side and text on the others. I would not call it entirely discreet due to the picture, but the lack of naked people makes it moderately discreet. The instructions, not the toy, were wrapped in bubble wrap.

I would not use the packaging for storage, as it is a little bulky. However, I have nothing against the packaging and found it a step up from the other Cal Exotics toys that I own.
    • Moderately discreet
    • Recyclable
    • Very informative

Personal comments

This toy was simply not for me. I did not really enjoy anything about it other than the appearance and color. It did not hit the correct places, was too loud for me, and the vibrations were not the type that I prefer. However, I have come to the realization that my tastes are very specific, making me very difficult to please. As much as I wanted to rate this toy lower, I am giving it four stars because, well, it is a good vibrator, and fantastic for the price.

Comparison with Velvet Touch by Doc Johnson:
Comparison - Velvet Touch

A lot of people recommend the Velvet Touch by Doc Johnson for beginners, but I believe that this vibrator is far better than that one and not much more expensive, so it really deserves a good rating. I could not bring myself to rate it five stars because it did not work well for me, but, if you are just starting out in the world of sex toys and don't want to spend too much, or if you just want an affordable traditional vibrator, I highly recommend this vibrator. As under-$20 ones go, this is among the best that I have tried - now, if only my vagina was more open to products in this price range...
Follow-up commentary
I find it amazing how quickly this was discontinued - and do not understand why! This remains the best beginner toy that I have found at under $20; it's a shame to see it go. I still recommend it to beginners, though advanced users might bore of it. I have used it twice since writing this review originally, and though I cannot say that I am in love with it, I still like it more than the other popular beginner vibrators.

Welcome to the world of picky toy users -- it's a good thing to be choosy when it comes to sex toys! Thank you for the wonderful review.

Great, detailed review! Ew, I always find toys that heat up feel pretty cheap (or worse, broken). Sorry you didn't like this one too much, maybe better luck next time. Thanks for the review!

The color of this toy is really pretty. Your review has great details. I don't like it when a toy heats up so I think I'll pass on this one.

What a shame you received an assignment that didn't work out for you! But, I appreciate that you gave it a fair and thorough review. I find sometimes people skimp on details when they are fixated on what they don't like. However, you never do that and I find a sign of an excellent toy reviewer!

Thank y'all very much for your kind words!

@Rossie: I wish I didn't belong to that elite group. Seriously. It's terrible. : ( I wish my vagina was less picky. Thanks for the nomination!

@CinnamonDreams: Thank you! It wasn't too bad, but still enough to annoy me. This is still a great product for under $20 though!

@Sunnyc: It is beautiful. It's a shame it didn't hit my spots correctly. I could have lived through the heating up if it did.

@Wicked Wahine: I'll review a toy negatively if I think it's a poor toy. I don't for this one - it's an incredible toy for the price, just not for me. I'm flattered that you think I'm an excellent reviewer though! Thank you!
