Use

When Doc Johnson decides to step up and add a little something special to the usual turn dial vibrator they go all out. The Rock Star Tina is a prime example of this! This little baby has some major appeal for the new player and some surprises for the jaded old player like yours truly. Price and high quality materials make this one of the best beginner toys I have had the pleasure to review.

This toy shines as a vaginal vibe but can also be used as a clitoral stimulator; penis, scrotum, taint and anal rim stimulator; and can also loosen up a few knotted muscles in the back of the neck! It is just long enough and thick enough to heavily stimulate the vagina without being the slightest bit painful due to the lovely flex of the silicone body.

Though it has some kick ass ripples it isn't exactly safe for anal play as it doesn't have a flared base, though it does have an amazing handle. This handle gets slippery with lube slick fingers so the reader should be wary of trying to insert this rock star through the back door!

Tina is even great at couples play as she is flexible enough to avoid bruising sensitive tissues though she is long enough to reach the cervix. If your cervix is grouchy about being touched be sure to communicate this fact to your partner to avoid discomfort.

Material / Texture

Tina is made of food-grade material, hypo-allergenic latex free, non-porous and phthalates free silicone with a hard plastic handle. This is one extremely body safe toy. The silicone is slightly flexible without being floppy and is formed into three ripples that can be easily felt when the toy is slowly thrust into the vagina. The toy is smooth but has a matte finish that provides a nice drag or can be silky and easy to glide with just a few drops of lube. It is silicone so it does pick up lint but it isn't as sticky as some of the other toys I have reviewed. A quick rinse is all it needs to remove the flurf!

Tina has a metallic painted plastic ring hat has some gentle points on it but, as it is doubtful the average user will thrust the toy that far into the vagina it is decorative only.

The handle of the toy is composed of hard plastic and has an unusual shape. The unforgiving texture of the handle makes for an unusual sensation if thrust into the vagina.

The Rock Star Tina has a light and rather pretty smell, which, to me, just smells clean and fresh. The smell doesn't rub off and has persisted through several washings. It isn't harsh and I suspect it is an additive to the silicone.

This is the perfect beginner toy for price as well as materials and texture.

Design / Shape / Size

The Rock Star Tina is approximately 7.25 inches long in total with an insertable length of 4 inches. While this may seem like a short amount for a dildo the rippled texture is easily felt and provides all the sensation the user could want. The ripples feel absolutely amazing when the toy is slowly thrust.

With a circumference of 4.50 inches it is great for kegel exercises and isn't so large that it is intimidating to new or more sensitive users. The ripples of this toy are great for more experienced users looking for an unusually shaped toy. With its matte drag, or slicked up with some lube, this toy invites the user to slow down and go for the slow build rather than the quick bang. It has a rounded tip that won't bruise sensitive tissues but the toy is fairly rigid so experiment with intensity slowly.

I admit I expected the toy to be yet another take on a tired old topic but I quite enjoyed the sensations when I slowed down and used this with a partner who teased me to near distraction. Rather than propelling the user to orgasmic bliss it invites a slow build to a powerful finish. The ball shape of the handle made controlling the speed of thrust and angle of thrust easy and quite comfortable. Plus the handle provided a unique sensation when thrust inside slowly as well!

The toy can easily reach the back wall of my vagina but mine is short: what this means is hitting the G spot of the average player should be easy. Though it doesn't have an angled head to make G spotting more easy the Tina is great if the player likes a rubbing sensation rather than pressure.
Though this isn't a large toy it is a flashy little number that screams vibrator so it might get a few winks or a nudge or two in a baggage inspection. It can be easily stored in an underwear or sock drawer. While it CAN be discreetly stored, if it's let out there won't be any question about its purpose.

The Rock Star Tina is not designed to be an anal insertion toy. It is too short and the handle is actually smaller than the middle of the toy. It has no safety flare and the handle gets slick when lubed up. It is just better to find a toy that is built for anal play than to try to repurpose this one.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Rock Star Tina is a turn dial type traditional vibrator. This means the user has much more choice in vibration speed than with a traditional 3 speed vibrator. The vibrational speed and intensity of the vibe begins at a medium strength and don't increase astronomically to full strength. What this means is the vibe has the power to get the average user to orgasm but the user who needs heavy vibration and speed might find this a tiny bit too weak. The vibrations are concentrated in the tip of the toy and don't carry through to the handle well which is good news for those users who don't appreciate numb fingers! The vibrations are very high pitched and can make the sensitive clitoris numb at full speed. It lacks the thump of the more powerful vibrators but it's pleasant none the less.

The handle screws off to reveal the battery compartment which is clearly labeled and easy to read. It takes 2 AAA batteries and I found that leaving the paper insert in the toy lessens the noise. The handle is easy to thread and closes tightly. It must be closed tightly or the toy will not turn on! The ball end is where the turn dial is located and it turns easily and smoothly, though not easily enough that you will knock it around during play. I have used the Rock Star for about two hours in total and it is still going strong which bodes well for it not being a battery pig.

This toy is supposed to be quiet but it isn't quite that noiseless! It can be heard through covers though not through a closed door. Definitely you would be heard in a shower or if your partner/roommate was in the room. The sound is muffled to near silence when it is inserted but as it's meant to be thrust slowly in and out it can be heard easily. This isn't a jackhammer loud toy but it isn't noiseless.

The battery compartment has a very large O ring that prevents water leakage even if the toy is fully submerged. After testing the toy in the shower, bathtub and sink I have found the toy to be completely waterproof.

Care and Maintenance

A simple wash in warm water with mild soap is all the Tina needs to keep it clean and ready for use. The user might wish to rinse it off before use since it picks up lint and other fluff easily. A commercial toy cleaner and a rinse is equally effective at keeping the toy sparkling. There are very few areas where fluids or germs could accumulate and a fingernail or a washcloth will remove the gunk easily.

Since this is a silicone toy the usual precautions are warranted; use a water based lube for 100% safety or spot test your favorite silicone lubes before use. A condom would make clean up completely easy but isn't necessary for health related reasons unless you are sharing the toy during use.

Store the toy out of direct sunlight and in a lint free bag such as the one found here. Though I have found little evidence that silicone toys can actually interact if stored together I prefer not to risk it and store them separately.

Packaging

The toy arrives in a very pretty plastic box that is recyclable and fairly discreet. I must admit I actually love Doc Johnson's new packages as opposed to the seedier cardboard ones from the past. These new ones are bright, cheerful and fun. You could, most definitely store the toy in its original box though I find the boxes to be too bulky.

It would be a lovely gift for that special someone.

Personal comments

I really like the idea of a toy that is meant to be slowly savored rather than thrust blindingly fast. I prefer rapid thrusting but found that this toy filled a missing link in my collection. My partners appreciate the break as well as they, sometimes, get winded when playing with me!
Follow-up commentary
My little rock star is still plugging along and a favorite when I am playing solo or at a play party. The shiny bits are still shiny and not losing their luster. While it does have a tendency to go through batteries, it could be the rechargeable batteries I normally use aren't holding their charge as well as when they were new. Either way I still recommend this amazing vibrator.
