It's Midnight Somewhere

The Midnight Cliterrific is an inexpensive vibrator that is either hit or miss. The nubbed texture added for clitoral and anal stimulation is only enjoyable in certain positions, but once you find the right one, it's a hell of a ride. The shaft has a slight curve that rubs against the G-spot nicely. The size and shape are perfect for beginners, and the multispeed vibrations are the perfect way to tease yourself right up until you climax.

Use

The Midnight Cliterrific can be used for anal or vaginal penetration. It has a cluster of nubs near the base that provide clitoral or anal stimulation when the vibrator is fully inserted. It can be a little awkward and may take a few tries to find a position that allows the "clit bumps" to actually rub up against your clit. I think this toy is best suited for solo play since it is a jelly toy and can be very hard to clean. If you want, you could use it with a partner, but I would (highly) recommend using a condom if you do end up sharing the toy. I'm also not sure how helpful a condom would be in covering the base of the vibrator because of the way it flares out at the bottom. The shaft is just slightly curved, so it does graze my G-spot, but this also took a little bit of experimenting before I found the right position.

This toy is not waterproof, so you can't take it in the tub or shower with you and you should be careful when washing it!

Material / Texture

When I opened the package, I expected the smell of the jelly to be much stronger than it actually was. There is definitely a smell to it, but I think it's pretty subtle and will probably fade over time. I think that it's a nice balance between soft, squishy, and firm. I can't attest to how lifelike it feels because I've never had an experience with a man's penis, but I can say that it does feel great. I didn't find that the nubs near the base added a whole lot of extra stimulation until I was basically lying on top of them. I think that probably comes from the fact that they don't actually reach my clit until I position myself on top of them. As a beginner myself, I'd say that the texture of the toy is perfect for beginners. I like how smooth it is but am wary of how hard it will be to clean, especially around the bumps.

The material also collects lint, hair, and anything else around it like crazy. I made the mistake of putting the toy under my pillow for no more than an hour and came back to find it covered in lint and hair. The packaging says to wash it before and after every use, and I'm sure the amount of stuff it collects is a big part of that.

Design / Shape / Size

Even though I had to put some effort into actually experiencing the nubbed part of the toy, I really like the design of it. I think it's a really nice size, and I find the shape of it to be very appealing. The vibrator is 6.5" in length with 4" insertable up to the clit bumps, so it's probably not going to be the best for someone who likes a lot of length. It's 4.5" in circumference with a 1.5" diameter, which is about average among my other toys. One part of the design that I thought could be improved upon is the dial on the bottom. The dial has two turning parts: one that opens and closes to expose the batteries and one that controls the speed of the vibration. Unfortunately, anytime I spin the control dial, it also ends up spinning the open/close dial, so unless I hold it in place, I end up turning off the vibration completely rather than slowing it down or speeding it up. My bigger issue with design around the base is that if I squeeze it at all, that also seemed to stop the vibrations, which can be very, very, very frustrating.

Because of the material of the toy, I don't think I would call it easy to hide. It's definitely not an "I'll just throw it in my sex drawer" situation. It's also not very discreet, unless you find 6.5", shimmery blue, penis-shaped vibrators to be discreet.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Despite having added nubs for clitoral and anal stimulation, very little of the vibration was actually felt there. I felt most of the vibrations in the middle of the shaft and, like I mentioned before, only felt them in the nubs when I basically laid down on them. Clitoral stimulation is the only thing that really gets me off, so even though it took extra work to find the perfect position to actually feel the clit bumps, it was worth it. I think the combination of the slightly curved shaft, the clit bumps (once properly positioned), and the vibrator set to full speed really make this toy. I do like that the speed dial is gradual and doesn't click into two or three speeds, so you can really tease yourself right up until you climax.

I thought the toy was surprisingly quiet, even on full speed. That being said, the paranoid side of me still turned some music on while I used it. I really doubt that my roommate in the next room would have heard anything at all, especially if I were under the covers, but I personally felt more comfortable with some white noise covering up the sound of the vibrations.

Care and Maintenance

The packaging for this toy says in all capital letters, "Always use a rubber compatible lubricant with this product for maximum pleasure." I started stressing out a little bit at first because I had no idea which lubes were compatible with rubber since I've always just used silicone toys and water-based lube. I pulled up the material guide for jelly toys on EF and quickly saw that both silicone and water-based lubes will work with jelly toys. However, unlike all my other toys, the jelly material cannot be sterilized. Instead, you should wash this toy with warm water (being careful to avoid the battery end) and toy cleaner or "soft" antibacterial soap. You should also avoid harsh soaps because they can ruin the toy. I would recommend holding on to the packaging it came in so you can store it without it touching anything else to avoid collecting lint.

Packaging

The packaging is the typical clear plastic packaging with a blonde, blue-eyed porn star on the insert. The insert has very minimal instructions, which are written in fine print at the bottom. The instructions basically tell you to wash the toy before and after use, to not immerse it in water, to not share it without using a condom, to remove the batteries when not in use, and to use a compatible lube. As I said before, I will probably save the packaging (and ditch the insert) for storage, but it would probably be less bulky to just use a Ziploc bag instead.

Follow-up commentary
I didn't dislike this toy to begin with, but there were some issues I was having. Since then, I realized the issues were my own fault, not the toy. My biggest issue was with the inconsistent vibrations, but it turns out if you close the battery compartment correctly there isn't a problem. Right now I think it might actually be my favorite toy, though I only have two with me at the moment. It would be nice if it were a silicone toy, but I can live with that since I have no intentions of sharing it with a partner.

Great job on the review. I can't use jelly toys and try to avoid them.

Thanks, I usually avoid them too but I thought I'd give it a try

Thanks for the detailed review! I might look into this if it wasn't jelly

I like the color of this, but I can't stand vibrations that stop when I squeeze. You might look into the Reflections line of glass vibrators by Doc Johnson for something that you can squeeze the daylights out of while still keeping the vibes. Thanks for the review!

I've never used a glass toy, I've always been a little intimidated by them. At the same time, the vibrations stopping was making me crazy, thanks for the tip!
