Mon bien-aimé Colette

Colette is an ergonomic and easy to use toy that packs a moderate punch. Body-safe and body-friendly, it boasts a well thought out and well executed design. This toy was clearly made by someone who knows what they’re doing, and manages to avoid the pitfalls of some other silicone and plastic toys. With a couple of minor changes, Colette could easily be the best of its kind! This is a great toy for all users.

Use

The Couture Collection Colette by California Exotics is a silicone and plastic g-spot vibrator. It is somewhat flexible, has three motors and a g-spot curve. The silicone it’s made of is nice and squishy, and since it’s pretty flexible, it works well for partner play.

Colette is quiet, has decent power, and is very easy to control. The high quality material makes it a great toy for all users, from beginners to advanced. It is not realistic looking at all, so would also make a great option for users who don’t like realism in their insertables.

Material / Texture

The insertable portion of Colette is 100% silicone, with a safety rating of 10. This material is non-porous and can be sanitized with a 10% bleach solution. This toy should not be boiled or placed in the dishwasher, as prolonged exposure to high heat may damage the motorized components.

Colette is not solid silicone all the way through, since she has three internal motors. The first 3.25” of the shaft (from the tip of the head down) are solid silicone, but the rest of the shaft is hollow down to the control handle. This makes the shaft fairly flexible and comfortable. It is a velvety silicone, comparable in texture to the Tantus Boss (or original VIP); velvety smooth with a bit of drag. The toy is completely smooth, except for a slight ridge that goes up one side and down the other. This slight ridge is not felt during use.

The handle, battery compartment and controls are all made of ABS Plastic, with a safety rating of 8. Plastic is non-porous and can be sanitized with a 10% bleach solution or by wiping it down with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

All-in-all this toy is made of very high grade materials, and is completely body safe. I like that, and it makes it easy to recommend this toy to anyone, whether they’re new to toys or are toy veterans.

Design / Shape / Size

The measurements of my Colette are as follows:

Length: 9.25”
Insertable length: 6”
Circumference: 5”
Diameter: 1.6”

One of the many things I like about Colette is that her diameter remains the same from the tip of the shaft to the base. There is no tapering, nor are there any bulges. It is one consistent diameter from top to bottom.

Another one of my favorite aspects of the toy is the curve in the shaft. I compared it to a variety of other curved g-spot toys I own, and found that the curve on the Colette is comparable to the curve of the Bent Graduate (though it may not look it), the Goodfella, the Mustang and the Boss. The curve of Colette is a bit more pronounced than the curve to the Bumpy Spiral Double Dong and the Gold Laced G. Keep that in mind as you decide if the Colette is for you. She has a very pronounced curve, but since the silicone is squishy and flexible, it does adjust to fit your anatomy when inserted and does not provide intense pressure to the g-spot.

The Colette’s design offers another fantastic advantage that other silicone and plastic toys I own do not offer. The seam between the silicone shaft and the plastic handle is down so low that gunk does not collect in it. Other toys have the seam significantly higher, which makes cleaning difficult and can cause a nasty build up that has to be scraped out with a finger nail. Colette’s design avoids that entire issue by attaching the handle well outside the insertable range of the toy.

The three motors on this toy are really what made me want to try it, and it really is a nice design. It’s virtually impossible to tell exactly where the motors are located in the shaft because the vibrations are felt up and down the entire length of the shaft when the motors are running. I did notice that while you can feel them a little bit in the handle, they are not strong. No need to worry, your hand should not go numb while using this toy, even for extended periods of time.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Colette has 7 different settings. They are controlled by one long button on the handle. One end of the button is a dedicated on/off switch, and the other end shuffles you through each function. The middle of the button has 3 lights, showing you which motor is currently on. The settings are as follows:

1) All 3 motors on low – 3 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to Je Joue MiMi on level 3)
2) All 3 motors on high – 3.5 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to MiMi between levels 3 and 4)
3) Alternating pulses from 1 motor at a time – 3 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to MiMi on level 3)
4) Long pulses on all 3 motors at once; the pulse lasts 2 seconds, then nothing for half a second, then another 2 second pulse, etc – 3.5 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to MiMi between levels 3 and 4)
5) Alternating fast pulses, 1 motor at a time; 4.5 pulses on the bottom motor, 5 on the middle, 4 on the top, the entire cycle takes about 5 seconds – 3 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to MiMi on level 3)
6) Bottom motor runs continuously, and the middle and top motors alternate – 3 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to MiMi on level 3)
7) Short pulses on all 3 motors at once; about 4 pulses per second – 3.5 vrooms, 2 bees (comparable to MiMi between levels 3 and 4)

The vibrations can be felt externally quite well; in fact Colette would make a great warm up toy for clits, nipples, or any other erogenous zone on her body or his. They can also be felt internally, but they do diminish just slightly when being squeezed. This is a very quiet toy, whether being used internally or externally; I cannot hear it through a closed door, even without any background noise. If you need a quiet toy that still packs a little punch, Colette fits the bill!

Colette runs on 3 AAA batteries that fit into a plastic cradle, and you then slide the plastic cradle into the toy. This is typical of my experience with California Exotic toys, and I like it because it prevents you from putting the batteries in wrong. Remember to take the batteries out when not in use!

So what’s the deal, is it waterproof or not?

Water tested; user approved!

Although I have read conflicting reports on this subject, I can tell you: I have water tested Colette, and she is waterproof. There is a bit of a gap where the battery door meets the body of the toy, but inside that gap there is also a clear o-ring protecting the battery compartment. Water has gotten inside the gap on my Colette, but the clear o-ring prevents water from going inside the actual battery compartment. This toy IS waterproof as the manufacturer claims, so fun in the shower or tub gets a green light. There is also no need to worry when cleaning it, it can be fully submerged and thoroughly cleaned.

Care and Maintenance

Colette is a very low maintenance toy. Keep her in fresh batteries, and remove them when not in use and she’ll be happy. Since it’s made of silicone, it can safely be stored with other 100% silicone toys, or in a plastic bag, an old sock, a toy pouch, the possibilities are endless. Store Colette away from toys that are made of compounds like TPR, TPE, PVC, etc. because those tend to break down, or “melt”, over time and could harm your Colette in the process.

The slight drag of the silicone gives it the tendency to attract stray hairs and fuzz, but a quick wipe with a damp rag, or a quick rinse with water before use will ensure it is in pristine condition.

This toy is compatible with water-based lubricants only. If you have a silicone or hybrid lube that you feel you must use, do a small spot test first down near the handle to see if there is a reaction.

Experience

I really enjoyed this toy. For those who have seen my toy collection, you know I am a huge fan of curved g-spot dildos. This is my first experience with a curved g-spot vibrator, and I loved it! The silicone is extremely comfortable and for those of us who enjoy thrusting toys, Colette works like a dream. I would not describe the vibrations as buzzy or rumbly, they are mid-range, very similar to the vibrations of the MiMi, maybe slightly buzzier. It has moderate power, measuring in at 3.5 vrooms. I am rating it 4 vrooms for the sake of differentiating it from the other 3 vroom toys, since it is significantly stronger than them.

I only have a very few complaints about this toy. As others have said, the battery compartment is extremely difficult to remove, especially the first time. It has become increasingly easier now that I know how to open it. I would also like it to come in other colors. My last complaint is about the function settings. I would like to have the option of controlling each motor individually. Having 3 motors is a very novel idea, but I would like to be able to control each of them, rather than be forced to either have them all on at the same speed, or use pre-programmed variations.

Even with those issues, I thoroughly enjoyed this toy. The controls are easy to use, but not easy to bump during use. The curve is just right, and the soft silicone is perfect for thrusting. I give this toy an enthusiastic 4 stars, but would love to give it 4.5 stars! It would be a full 5 stars if it didn’t have those 3 issues I mentioned above.
Follow-up commentary
I've had my Colette for quite a while now, and each time I pull her out of the toy chest I'm surprised to find that I like her just as much as I did the first time! I love my Uma, of course, and that one packs so much power, but there is still just something about my Colette that I really love.

It's so easy on the arm (even if you like vigorous thrusting), and I still love the size. For me, it is the perfect mix of a dildo and a vibrator: it has the size of a dildo (unlike the Uma which is quite a bit smaller) but still packs the punch of a vibrator. (It doesn't pack as much punch as the Uma though.)

All in all this is a toy that I plan to keep, and continuing using, for a very long time. I have found that as the batteries drain Colette tends to lose some power, but that's very easy to remedy with some fresh AAA's. My Colette has held up very well, with the most basic of care!

I just got this toy and I'm unsure if I like it as much as I thought I would. My experience with it has been limited because I'd lack of time alone. I'll definitely write a review when I spend more time with it though!

"Useful"? "Somewhat Useful"? Either those were random votes from people who didn't read the review, or two of these people are insane. Excellent review, indiglo!
