Not Perfect but an Amazing Toy

After spending hours weighing pro/cons of these kinds of toys and worrying what my girlfriend would think of trying the toy, I'm glad I gave the Tiani 3 a try. My girlfriend's reactions and experience with the toy has more than made the purchase worth it, even if there are some small design issues with the toy.

Use

This toy is sold as being a toy for use by couples as a toy to be used during sex. The toy is C shaped with one end designed to be inserted vaginally and the other end to sit upon the clit. This is similar to other couples vibrators in this fashion such as the We-Vibe 4 Plus, Unity G-Spot or other offerings from Lelo.

Lelo Instructions

Lelo gives the photo above as an example of how the toy can be used during sex. Effectively the part of the toy that can be inserted is small enough that a vibrator or penis can still be inserted while the toy is in use. Me and my girlfriend have used the toy a couple times now and the toy like many others of this kind tends to struggle to stay inserted/positioned if you are thrusting at all during sex. I was worried with my partner's size and my girth that the toy wouldn't work in this fashion; however, one reason I went with the Tiani 3 was it's inserted portion of the C looked thinner than some of the alternatives. We've had no issues with me being inserted with the toy with foreplay leading up to use and the use of lube during sex. The fact you can't really thrust with this kind of toy does pose issues.

The toy also could potentially be used for remote couples play as the toy comes with a wireless remote that a partner can use to control the toy while inserted. There are some potential risks/issues with this use of the toy in that it is unlikely to stay inside unless held by underwear or other garment. Additionally, the remote vibrates with the same vibrations as the toy to give the operator feedback as to the vibrations their partner is experiencing. I kind of think this option is great but also feel for people that want to use the remote in public that it would be nice if the remote was designed with like a switch/toggle to disable this feature.

The best use of this toy in our opinion is using it during foreplay, after sex, or potentially during anal sex. So far we've used it during sex with mixed results and the toy on it's own after sex when I'm worn out and we're cuddling... which resulted in my girlfriend experiencing her first orgasm the first time we used this toy in this fashion. Or at the very least her commenting that she looked forward to replicating the experience again. I also can use the remote as a second vibrator that I can run up her back or over her body while the toy is inserted.

The toy could also be used for solo play as well.

Material / Texture

This is my first toy from Lelo and was surprised at how amazing their silicone feels when I first got the toy out of the box. Aside from the back of the remote & the chrome band around the toy the rest of both parts are covered with this soft velvety smooth silicone that feels really luxurious in its texture or lack there of. This texture makes it easy to insert and requires minimal lube. It also is on the remote, which makes it feel pleasant to rub against your skin while the remote vibrates feedback to the holder of the remote. Like many silicone toys it is prone to attract dust; however, this toy seems less prone than the other silicone toys I have.

The chrome band/back of the remote are both a smooth plastic and not actually metal; however, this doesn't take away from the luxury feel of this toy.

The toy is quite flexible, which is great since people come in a variety of sizes. As you can see in the photo below the insertable end (on the right) can bend to nearly 180 degrees from the vibrating end of the toy. I'll discuss how this is both a good and bad design of materials in the next section.

Design / Shape / Size

I looked at a number of these kinds of toys before deciding to try the Tiani 3. Some flaws I saw with other toys were the fact that the inserted part was too large to allow a penis to be inserted at the same time for many users with other toys. The Tiani 3's inserted part looked very minimal in comparison to many of the others. It also looked like it was designed to be more flat and wide vs circular in shape, which I felt might make it easier to accommodate insertions of larger girth easier while the toy is in use. This was important to me as my partner is very petite and I'm reasonably well endowed so occasionally it's difficult for me to insert so adding a toy to be inserted at the same time seemed difficult.

Inserted end curve

Actually getting the toy to see in person shows the thoughtfulness of the design of this toy that Lelo put in when making it. As you can see in the picture above, there is a subtle curve in the inserted arm of the toy that allows the insertion of a toy/penis vaginally while this toy is in place to be easier. In this way the toy is really well designed as we haven't had any issues getting my penis inserted while the toy is inserted too. And with minimal lube there is no unpleasant rubbing caused by the toy. My girlfriend said the sensation was a bit different than normal but not unpleasant, but what has really sold her on this toy is the vibrations.

So if this is your first time looking at a toy like this, the toy is C shaped as you can see below. It has two ends one that rests upon the clit/pelvic bone and the other end that is inserted vaginally. There are a number of these kinds of toys on the market now.

Parts Labeled

On the list of things well designed about this toy is the clit vibrator end, as it has a small recess on the side that would be against the clit/pelvic mound. I believe this was designed such that the clit could sit in here and feel the vibrations with less intensity than if the surface was flat/beveled outwards. As likely you want to feel the vibrations but not pressure from the toy when in use. You can see this recess in the picture below.

Vibrator Scallop

So the toy can be used during sex and we found no issues inserting the toy or my penis with the toy with it's shape; however, the toy like many others like this suffers from the fact that it doesn't stay put with thrusting. I think these toys are designed more for grinding than thrusting sex. We've tried using the toy both in missionary and cowgirl, and had the toy come out in both cases when me or my girlfriend started moving. I could hold it in place during missionary with some success, which wasn't any more awkward than when I would reach down and rub my partners clit during this position.

We also found that even when we weren't having sex that the toy would fall out easily if not held in place. We've used it both as foreplay and after sex to bring my girlfriend to an orgasmic state. I think this is a flaw in how thin the inserted arm is, which is great as it makes it easy for me to insert; however, it suffers in how much clamping force it applies so falls out easily. I know some of the toys like this sometimes go too far the other direction and reviews seem to indicate it was uncomfortable in the pressure the C applied, so thankfully none of that with the Tiani 3. Likely could be worn with underwear or something similar to hold it in place if you were wanting to wear it out or around the house. As this isn't a use case for the toy me and my girlfriend anticipate using, this hasn't been a concern.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The toy has 8 vibration patterns, 6 standard and 2 that are changed by moving the remote. The 6 standard ones can be cycled through by pressing a button on the external vibrating end of the toy. The six standard modes are as follows:

1. Constant
2. Pulsing Slow
3. Pulsing Fast
4. Ramping Pattern Up
5. Ramping Pattern Up/Down
6. Variable

The ramping pattern 4 starts with slower vibrations and then speeds up to faster ones then starts over as slower ones again, repeating this process. The ramping cycle is about 2 seconds but is very pleasant and keeps you from getting too used to the vibrations. Ramping pattern 5 slows to almost not existing; however, ramps up to full power faster vibrations then will slow back down to almost not existing, repeating this cycle over about a 4 second period. Pattern 6 is curious and I can't really explain it, but it's almost a random combination of changing speeds and pulsing, which if you are like me constant vibrations almost get tuned out so this is like a godsend. I wish I felt more of the vibrations or had these in some of my toys.

The other two vibration modes are what Lelo calls "SenseMotion" and is available on a number of their toys. I requires the remote to work, which can both do the SenseMotion vibration modes + allow you to cycle through the 6 standard modes. The SenseMotion mode 1 is the first mode the toy and remote go into when you sync it by pressing the button on the toy one time and the plus symbol on the remote. This allows you to slow/speed up the vibrations of the toy (and remote as you get the same vibrations as feedback in the remote) with if the remote is held horizontally at the slowest and if held vertically at their fastest. There is some slight delay between the remote/toy as to be expected but it's nice to have this feedback + doubles as a second vibrator that I usually run over my partner's body while we use the toy. SenseMotion Mode 2 controls (and is the next setting when you press the motion button in the middle) the speed of vibrations relative to the speed you move the remote, which is a bit tricky as it's looking for an arcing motion vs general motions of the remote. But definitely could see this mode combined with moving the toy over your partner or your body at different speeds being an interesting use, so far we've not really gotten much from this feature.

In addition to the SenseMotion & cycling through the vibration modes (via the center button) you can speed up/down the traditional vibration settings via +/- buttons on the remote in case your partner needs faster/slower vibrations or you want to keep changing the vibrations.

This is both one of the most powerful vibrators I've bought but also one of the less buzzy vibrators I own... though definitely still a bit buzzy, but it's definitely got some thumping power to it that my cheaper or smaller bullet vibes just can't offer.

The toy is water proof and the remote seems reasonably water resistant so could definitely see using this in a tub or shower; however, I feel that you'd struggle to keep it inside if standing unless you have powerful kegel muscles. Also, think the water in a tub might make the remote less likely to be able to communicate; however, they claim it can work 12m/39ft away with clear line of sight, in the air, at sea level. When the toy is inserted that can pose some reduction in the effective distance, same with if underwater. But the charge port screws in with a nice seal.

I doubt the toy would work great for use for public play as the remote vibrates and there is no way to disable this feature. It would likely be very noticeable if the partner using the remote left it on a table; however, it might be able to be muffled in a pocket depending on the vibration speeds. But likely would be similar to a phone vibrating at that point, and could play it off as the longest ring time ever or someone really wants to get ahold of you. This isn't a feature I'm going to leverage for this type of play as it's not something I or my partner are into; however, might be fun to use around the house or foreplay while we watch TV before bed.

Charge Port

To charge the toy you connect the provided charge cord to the charge port that is in the large end of the C shape of the toy. The large end of the toy unscrews allowing you access to this charge port as you can see in the picture above. Once plugged in there is an LED on the toy that will blink until fully charged, when it will stay lit. You can see the LED in the picture below. This LED also flashes to indicate the toy is on when you depress the button located below it. This will indicate when you can sync the remote or press the button again to begin cycling through the standard vibration settings.

LED

It's worth mentioning if you look at the Tiani 3 page on Lelo's site it says the following about the toy, "One arm vibrates powerfully inside you and the other massages your clitoris". Upon buying the toy I discovered that in fact the inserted part of the toy does not vibrate, outside of vibrations from the clitoral end traveling down the toy. There is not an actual vibrator in the inserted end of the toy, which I found a bit of a let down as this means the vibrations are minimal to non-existent while I was inserted. At the end of the day I got the toy as I thought my girlfriend might enjoy the vibrations, but still worth mentioning that this bit on their site is wrong and likely was meant for another toy, such as the Tiani 24k that does in fact have a vibrator in both ends of the toy.

Care and Maintenance

The toy's velvety soft silicone is super easy to clean off after use. As it's made of silicone you shouldn't use silicone based lubes with the toy. With water based lube, this makes it very easy to clean with hot water. As the toy is water proof this makes it easy to run under water after use and clean, and the remote appears to be water resistant and has survived me running it under water when I managed to get some lube on it after using.

I store the toy currently in the box that it came in; however, I'll likely store it in the provided storage bag in the near future to keep the dust off of it.

Packaging

The initial packaging was interesting. It comes in a cloth-like outer wrap over the box that kind of obscures what's inside to make it a bit more discreet, as you can see below.

Packaging 1

This cloth-like wrap is a bag that is closed by a sticker with the toy identity/color on it as you can see below:

Packaging 2

Once you get the box out from inside this cloth-like wrapping you can see bold marketing about the toy on a glossy box. I believe this is how it would be displayed on the shelf if you were to find it in a store; however, the cloth-like bag is likely used to keep the box looking nice during shipping. But you can see three of the sides with info of the glossy box below:

Glossy Box 1
Glossy Box 2
Glossy Box 3

This doesn't really set the packaging apart from other toys for me; however, once you get the box open this is a bit of a step up in packaging from regular toys. Inside the marketing/shiny box is a fancy matte black box with just Lelo in shiny letters on it, which really feels like a step up from packaging I've had from other toy manufacturers. You can see this box below:

Fancy Box

Once we open this box you can see that it's got specially made spots for both toy components + another box/section for the accessories, manuals, etc. This assures that the toy isn't bouncing around during travel/shipping, which means it should work when you get it. I'm currently using this part of the box to store the toy. You can see the packaging with the toy in and out of it below:

Fancy Box 2
Fancy Box 3

In the accessories section of the box come a variety of useful things, including batteries for the remote (that sadly isn't rechargeable). These accessories include an owner's manual, personal lubricant sample, lubricant manual, two AAA batteries for the remote, warranty registration card w/ your serial number, charger, remote key (I used a coin before I discovered that's what this was in the manual), and a storage bag for the toy. These can all be seen below:

Accessories

All in all, this was one of the best packaged toy's I own and definitely gave the vibe when opening of the quality of toy that comes inside.
    • Good for storage
    • Very informative

Personal comments

So was reading a forum post about the Tiani 2 and using it during anal sex. I admit even before reading the forum post it was something I was curious about using the Tiani 3 during. Having actually tried have to say that I think it added something to the experience for both of us, plus really helped my partner relax making anal sex more successful. We started out having sex like normal but then transitioned to preparing for sex was when I made use of the toy... My girlfriend was on her hands/knees in doggy when I inserted the Tiani 3 and started using it on her. I used the remote to control the vibrations but also as the remote vibrates I ran it up and down her back. Then with my other hand as the toy stayed in place while we were doing this, I began rubbing her sphincter with lube eventually using my finger to incrementally add more lube and insert in her anus. I could then press the inserted portion of the toy against her pelvic bone with my finger inserted anally. Then thought I'd use a vibrating anal probe I got recently for more foreplay as she relaxed and got ready for anal sex, so began slowly inserting the Escapade Vibrating Anal Beads into her while they vibrated too... I was initially worried this was going to be too much, but think all the vibrations took her mind off things and helped her relax as after working up to three beads, removing them, and shooting lube into her I was easily able to insert, which we've struggled with the past few times we've tried anal since it'd been a while.

Then while we had sex in the prone bone position she held the vibrating end of the toy against herself. I'm sure we could do this in other positions during anal sex as well; however, she definitely liked the experience and thought the vibrations really helped her relax and made the whole experience even more enjoyable for her. I'm not overly sensitive; however, once I had reached orgasm when I become more sensitive I could feel the vibrations while inside her, which was quite nice to enjoy before I eventually pulled out.

All in all I think this is great use for this toy, even if it falls a bit short in terms of staying put during vaginal sex.
Follow-up commentary
Still like the toy; however, we purchased the improved Tiani 24k a few weeks after getting this toy... so haven't been using this one much since.

Very in-depth review. We have something very close to the Unity. Using the spoon position I'm able to get in her while she is using it. She holds it in place so it won't come out. We have a remote for our. (Unity doesn't). She loves it for solo play. Great foreplay and cum-maker item.

Thanks for the feedback!! And yeah seems holding in place is a requirement for this kind of toy... have had success in missionary and cowgirl while holding the toy in place, but a bit tricky. Will have to try w/ spoon position at some point.

Excellent review. I've been waiting for something like this that's perfect in every way. Hopefully they will make a few changes in the future to allow it to stay inserted

I broke down and ordered the Tiani 24K to try recently, that might possibly have improved on the fit issue but also features dual vibrators. Will be exciting to do a comparison, only worry is the insertion arm is slightly larger. Not currently a toy I can review on EF but will find a way to give a review in another form if that doesn't change in the future.

Great review. I'm glad you pointed out another option to me. I think I'm going to wait for your review on the next one you mentioned (can't recall the name). It worries me that this one falls out so easily. Maybe other toys with a more 'grippy' feel are designed with that material so that it won't slip out.

Thanks for the feedback! The other one is the Tiani 24K, which has a stiffer C shape. I hope this will make a difference, will likely post a comparison/short review in the discussion boards in the future. Feel free to follow me to stay tuned. And always glad to help people find other options for comparison/consideration. I hate buyers remorse so like to do all the research/comparisons I can before I buy anything.

This review was very helpful. You answered a lot of questions I had about the remote functionality. Looks like I'll be going a different route and picking something else. Thanks for saving me $150!
