Or a coffee break, or...

If you love music, or voices, or having a tool that allows someone far away to reach out and touch your clit, this toy is well worth buying. It really does do all the things it says it does, and it does them well enough to continuously astonish me. If you know you crave intensity in your vibrators, or insertable toys, look to other members of the OhMiBod line that have the same capabilities.

Use

This is a distinctly clitoral vibe, though the swooping curves make for an exceptionally nice fit into female anatomy in a few positions. However, in general, I found it to be most pleasurable when the vibration-focused front point is right on, or near, my clitoris. I have a captive bead ring in a vertical hood piercing, and have generally been hesitant to play with vibrators because of it. They generally just clack and clink, annoying me more than they arouse me. However, after seeing a review on OhMiBod products, I knew I wanted one. Since I enjoy clitoral stimulation, I knew I wanted this one specifically. The Better Than Chocolate does not disappoint, and I find it perfectly compatible with my jewelry. I found a shared Pandora station dedicated to these types of vibrators(OhMiBod Radio), which has great seeds to show off the real power of this toy. I crank up the tunes, turn on the vibe, and get lost in a very happy place somewhere between my knees and my ears. It works just as well with voices as it does music, and I've just started to explore the possibilities of audiobook erotica and this toy. So far, my test with an online partner reading aloud to me was exquisite, the combination of words and the responsive buzz from the toy had me powerfully aroused and really happy. I haven't had a chance to try it with voice sex/Skype sex, but I suspect that it would be just as effective and responsive.

However, physically enjoying your favorite music or conversation is really only the beginning of the potential of this vibe. There are also (paid) apps that extend the power of these toys in amazing ways. The first is from OhMiBod, and is for both Apple and Android smart phones; this app allows you to control the pattern and intensity of vibrations through the infinite variations available to a touch screen. You can even save your favorites for later recall. There is also a third party app (Closer ToGetHer), which allows for the remote control of any of the OhMiBod vibrators. Yes, it really is possible for your long-distance lover to reach out and touch you through this app. I haven't tried it (yet), but the fact that the option even exists is a reason for me to eagerly adopt this technology.

Material / Texture

The Better Than Chocolate vibe uses a non-porous thermoplastic rubber, which is generally considered body friendly. It has a slight texture to it -- velvety is an accurate description. There is some drag from the texture, which is very quickly overcome by a dot of lube or greater arousal. After some time using this, I didn't notice the texture at all, just the vibrations! When I first opened the box, I did notice a slight rubbery smell, but that has faded. The material seems to suit the device, making a body friendly envelope around the high tech interior.
    • Light odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Smooth

Design / Shape / Size

The vibe uses two AAA batteries, which lends just enough heft to give it a solid feel overall. I found that the vibe fits very nicely in my hand, much like a computer mouse does. The swooping wings and boomerang shape of the design gave me plenty of area to wrap my fingers around, even when things got slippery. The battery compartment is well sealed, letting this toy claim shower-friendly status, though for my purposes that has simply meant easy clean up.

This vibe does lock for travel, and it is small enough to be discreetly packed in a laptop bag. However, the bright pink color kind of screams "sex toy" to me, so I wouldn't just leave it sitting out on the table or anything. The shape is such that you might be able to wear it; it certainly is shaped to nestle into labia, and a pair of panties would hold it in place quite nicely. With a comfortable place to lay down, this is a totally hands free toy.

Functions / Performance / Controls

So far, I have tried most of the ways to control the vibration and intensity that are available. The vibe has a very simple on/off button over the battery case, which powers on the toy. Once it's on, you can chose how to go from there.

Music mode is automatic when the transmitter is on and receiving input (music, voice, commercials, anything that normally comes out a speaker). The touch slider on the vibe changes color to let you know it is accepting the input. Once music mode is on, the only way to control the intensity is to turn up the volume. Speed and vibration pattern respond to the music, so if something isn't working, try another song. If you want complete control over what the vibe does, get the OhMiBod app and use the touchscreen to create simple (or complicated!) vibration patterns. I was actually amazed by the level of complexity available with this method.

If you're away from the computer or your phone is low on batteries, you can use the built-in touch slide to control the pattern and intensity of the vibrations. Compared to the other control methods, this one felt simplistic, but it still allowed for a range of interesting sensations. It took me a bit to figure out the touch slider, even with the manual open beside me. It uses a combination of timed touches and sliding to change pattern, intensity, and to lock and unlock. The slider uses a combination of colors and flashes to communicate status (which pattern, locked, unlocked, music mode, etc.), which is elegant and intuitive once you learn the language.

For using only 2 AAA batteries, this device puts out a surprising amount of buzz with very low volume. It's not the most intense vibration I've ever felt, and I have to admit that this vibe has not actually induced any orgasms directly for me yet. However, as a way to warm up, enjoy my music, a far-away partner, and set the stage? This is superb. I have it running to the music while I'm chatting with online partners, and then if we actually move to cyber sex, I can work on getting more focused. It feels amazing, and when I look up at the clock, I'm always surprised to see how much time has passed without getting overstimulated or numb.
    • Discreet sound
    • Lots of variety in function

Care and Maintenance

I have been storing this toy in the box it came in, which is a lovely case with space for the vibe, the transmitter, and a set of earbuds. That box lives in my dresser drawer, so I'm not too concerned with how discreetly it pretends to not be a sex toy.

When I'm ready to play, I just plug in the transmitter, put in my earbuds, and turn on the vibe. Afterwards, clean up is simply a wipe or a quick wash in the sink with soapy water, and drying it with a towel before going back in the case. Overall, it is simple to care for, but I'm also not sharing it with anyone.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The packaging was gift-worthy, in my opinion, with a printed wrapper around the white storage box. There is an extensive manual included and more information available online. I took out the vibrator, washed it with warm, soapy water in the bathroom sink, dried it, and twisted off the end to put the batteries in. After I closed it up, I pushed the power button and the vibe came to life in my hand. A few minutes of playing with the touch slider with the manual next to me, and I was pretty confident that I could control the toy without looking. Then, I plugged the transmitter into my phone and began exploring the music responsive mode. It was seamless and intuitive; if anything, it was easier than the touch slide to understand.
    • Good for storage
    • Minimal
    • Very informative

Personal comments

I have a wide variety of toys, and each one makes me happy for a specific thing it does well. The Better Than Chocolate has to be the most versatile of all of them, though. I love that this toy is responsive and interactive; it is unlike any other vibrator I have ever tried. I keep thinking of new things I want to try with it! While I said before that it is not strong enough to bring me to orgasm alone, it does a wonderful job of augmenting my hands and my (or my partners!) mind. It definitely has changed how I think about cyber sex.
