The original pocket rocket - classic pocket rocket discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by Officer Oddy

Doc Johnson's Pocket Rocket Black is a simple one-speed mini-massager that packs a lot of punch. It is meant to stimulate the clitoris, labia, and other parts of the outer body. This toy is not meant for insertion, and I doubt anyone will want to; it's not exactly designed for that.

The toy is one-speed, but the vibrations it provides are deep and throbbing. The level of vibration isn't too strong, nor too weak, and that makes this toy excellent for beginners.

It's small and compact: very easy to slip into your purse or pocket. The controls are simple enough to figure out; it is a simple turn dial that clicks into place once you turn the base to the desired option. There are three options: Open, Off, and On. Turn one click to the right for "On," then one click to the left to turn the toy off. Turn the base all the way to the left to open the battery compartment. This toy takes one AA. It is also NOT waterproof. This pocket rocket has only one attachment.

This toy is hard, black plastic with a coating of silicone-like material. It is very soft. The words "Pocket Rocket" are written in white in a font that kind of reminds me of whatever font was used in advertising for "Back To the Future." The options toward the base of the toy are also written in the same white in all capital letters.

The toy itself is smooth and easy to hold. There are two sets of horizontal embossed lines on the toy towards the base at the controls. Each set of lines is roughly half an inch long, and the lines are spaced apart so that the whole set of them vertically measures to around half an inch as well. Each set of lines is located on either side of the toy, framing the control options for the toy. A vertical embossed line identifies what setting the toy is on since it lines up with the option you choose as you turn the base. The last sets of lines with indentations are at the very bottom of the toy, and they are vertical.

The back of the toy is smooth as well, and an embossed/indented label indicates that the toy is made in Japan.

The one attachment the toy comes with is made of hard plastic and has a shiny finish. There are twelve slightly elongated nubs that allow for great clitoral stimulation. The metal vibrating beads on the toy itself provide the most stimulation. Though the cap creates wonderful feelings, I personally prefer to use it without the cap.

The overall design of the toy is wonderful. I only wish that it was waterproof. I don't think this toy is very obvious, so I think it's safe to call it discreet. Only if a person were pretty knowledgeable about the sex toy world would they know what a pocket rocket was AND what one would look like.

This toy is very easy to hold with most of its weight being towards the head of the toy. There is a surprising amount of weight in the toy, which pleases me. I like a little bit of weight in my toys; this one does not have a ton of weight, so don't worry about it if the heaviness of a toy bothers you.

The design of the attachment isn't what I'd hope for. I find the nubs too long and hard to be that pleasurable. The vibrating beads don't reach the inside roof of the attachment when it's in place, so some of the vibrations are lost when the attachment is in use.

The size is very convenient. It is small enough to fit in a purse, but large enough to give a substantial amount of pleasure to the body.

WHY ISN'T THIS THING WATERPROOF?!

I love all the features of this toy and how it's so simple, but why isn't it waterproof? I mean, would it really be too much trouble to put a decent O-ring in the battery compartment? That's all it takes, right?

Really.

The controls of this toy are simple, and battery insertion is hassle-free. Everything you need to do with this toy can be controlled with a simple quick motion of the hand. The one-speed vibrations are pleasant but not what I need if I'm in a rush. Since I'm one of those women who needs a good amount of vibration to her clit, this isn't my go-to vibe if I'm in a hurry. But if you're looking to treat yourself to a long afternoon alone or with a partner, take this little guy with you.

The noise level is a bit of an issue. It's been my experience with vibrators that when the packaging states the toy is "quiet" or "virtually silent," it's not. This toy's packaging just so happens to claim that, and just as I thought, it made a bit of noise. Now, it's not a lot of noise. This toy is definitely not going to be heard under the blankets and through a closed door. But it will be if you're in the same room with someone. I'm not sure how they're measuring the quietness of their toy, but it's not that quiet.

Since this toy is not waterproof, cleaning is a TINY challenge. All this toy requires is a quick rinse and a spritz of alcohol. Don't leave this toy anywhere exceptionally hot or anywhere exceptionally cold. It would also be a good idea to take the battery out after every use.

I store this toy in its original packaging (mainly because I find that convenient), and in a dark, cool place. Lubricant can be used with this toy, but only water-based or silicone.

This was a free assignment that I took, and I wasn't too excited about it since it was only a pocket rocket. My last clitoral vibrator didn't work out that well for me, and I wasn't too thrilled with having another possible disappointment. I'm very happy to say that I was gravely mistaken, and that I love this little guy. I definitely recommend this toy to beginners and to more experienced collectors, as this toy is a must-have in anyone's toybox.
