The Charm Silk is a part of the new KEY line from Jopen. The Charms are larger than a bullet or mini vibrator, but smaller than a traditional vibrator. The Charms line has 5 different options in terms of shape and texture. The Silk is a straight vibrator with a very slight texture.

It is could be used internally or externally, but I think that most users will end up using this one for clitoral stimulation. It doesn't have the length or girth to satisfy the majority of users vaginally or for g-spotting. It could also be used to tease other erogenous zones, like nipples or balls.

It could be used solo or for couples play. I would say that the small, cute design is not at all intimidating and certainly a bit classier looking than the average sex toy, so it may be a nice way to ease toy use into your relationship.



The Silk is waterproof, so it could be used in the shower or bath. It could also be taken into the hot tub or pool, for some underwater fun. It is small enough to sneak into a hotel pool, if you wanted to attempt some public play, either alone or with a partner.

There are three main materials used to create the Charms Silk: silicone, ABS plastic and stainless alloy. No parts of the toy have any sort of smell or taste.

The sleeve is made of 100% silicone, which scores a 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It has a matte surface and a velvety feel. There is a slight drag when you run your finger over the surface of the toy. The sleeve seems durable and made to last. The very tip of the sleeve is solid silicone, and that section does have a slightly different sensation because of that fact. The texture of the sleeve is very slight. It seems more about being aesthetically pleasing than adding extra stimulation. It can be felt ever so slightly during use, but it certainly isn't going to please anyone looking for a lot of texture in a toy. The product page for this item calls it "ribbed", but I wouldn't go so far as to call it that. There is none of that "popping" sensation that ribbed toys usually provide.

The housing of the vibrator inside the sleeve and the majority of the cap are made from ABS plastic, which rates an 8 on the Eden Safety Scale. This part of the toy is almost entirely covered by the sleeve, so you won't be contacting it much during use, except for holding on to the cap. The sections that are covered by the sleeve are a matte black color, and the cap is coated so it appears shiny and silver.

The button (just the button, not the area of the cap surrounding it) is made of stainless alloy. The only part of your body that will be contacting this button is, presumably, your fingertip. It is smooth to the touch and quite shiny. It also has the word "KEY" imprinted on it.

The sleeve measures 3 1/2" itself, not including the silver cap which contains the button. The sleeve can be removed for cleaning, but it's challenging to get off of the vibrator housing. It took quite a bit of elbow grease. The end tip of the sleeve has a roughly .5" section of solid silicone, and the vibrator housing fills up the rest of the sleeve. The product information lists the diameter of the toy at 1", but in reality it measures 7/8". There is no flex or curvature to the Silk, so it is a straight shaft of uniform diameter. The slightly raised gentle swirls that make up the texture of the toy are mild and do not provide a great deal of sensation.





At only 3 1/2", it is designed for mostly external use. However, if you happen to have a shallow g-spot, or like a thinner, shorter vibrator, you could enjoy this internally. Because it's so short and slender, it certainly is beginner friendly. Although anyone who became curious and pressed the button would know what it is, it is rather visually discreet. It doesn't have a realistic or phallic look. It's small enough to tuck in a purse or handbag. It doesn't lock for travel, so be sure you remove the battery if you intend to pack it in your luggage.

The Silk is controlled by a single button. Pressing the button turns the toy on, and subsequent presses cycle you through the 5 patterns. To turn the toy off, you press and hold the button for three seconds.




Jopen lists the patterns as:

1-- High (solid vibration)
2-- High 2 (sort of studder high vibration)
3-- Tease (slow pulse)
4-- Pulse (faster pulse)
5-- Throb (a pattern of two fast pulses, and three lower intensity pulses)

My interpretations of the settings are shown in parenthesis. The Silk isn't a weakling, but it isn't a powerhouse toy. It is most definitely on the buzzy end of the spectrum, with not a rumble in sight. The vibration can be felt throughout the entire toy, and I didn't get a numb or itchy hand from holding the Silk. It did well underwater, and there didn't seem to be a loss of power while it was submerged. The Silk takes 1 AA battery, which is not included. Jopen suggests rechargeable battery use in their package insert. One battery will get you 1-2 hours of usage, depending on the pattern you are using.



My big problem with this little guy is the volume level. This toy really shouldn't be all that loud. The box lists it as "whisper quiet". I don't know who is whispering to the people who wrote that, but they are a bit confused. The actual vibrator is very quiet, but the sound of the stainless alloy button rattling against the plastic cap that surrounds it is VERY loud. If you turn the toy to different angles, sometimes you have a quiet toy, and sometimes you have a jack hammer. The only way I found to keep it quiet is to hold either side of the cap with two fingers, and keep a finger gently resting on the button as well to keep it from rattling, and even that isn't always successful. This is very limiting. You can't just turn it on and then hold it how you'd like to in order to get the angles you need. With the price tag that comes with this little guy, I don't expect to have to do a song and a dance to keep it from waking the neighbors. It's so loud that when I was messing around with it, trying to turn and hold it different ways to see what triggered the awful, loud rattle, my husband came in the room to see what the problem was. So, if you are holding the cap to stop the noise it's a discreet toy. If you aren't, the whole neighborhood might know what you're up to.

The Charms Silk is easy to care for. It can be cleaned using soap and water or your favorite toy cleaner. The silicone sleeve could be removed and boiled or placed in the dishwasher to sterilize it. Always use water based lubes with this toy to avoid damage to the silicone. It can be stored in the box it came in, or in the pouch provided.

The included pamphlet from Jopen cautions you to avoid exposing the toy to direct sunlight or storage for prolonged periods at temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This might be a concern if you are putting your items in storage for some reason and you live in a hotter climate. I did use mine is a hot bath, with no negative results, but it may not hold up to extreme temperatures.

Also, the products in the Key line do come with a one year warranty. During that time, they will replace defective products.

The box this little guy comes in is classy and pretty. There is an outer sleeve that slips off of the top of the inner box. Opening the flap of the inner box reveals the toy resting in a foam cutout. There is a small plastic bag that houses the storage pouch and a booklet of information about the toy.

I would classify the package as discreet, as it doesn't scream sex toy. It works well for storage. It does take up a bit more space than the toy itself, but not enough to make me toss it. It would lend itself to gifting, as well.

The Silk is just SO loud. It's loud enough that it takes the fun out of using it. After trying and trying, I just couldn't block out the sound or the maneuvers I was doing to keep it quiet. It never got the job done. If they had placed some sort of buffer between the button and the plastic surrounding it, this would be a solid toy that I'd recommend, but the rattle was just too much. If loud toys don't bother you, or you like to wear noise cancelling headphones while you play, this might work for you. If not, pass this one up!
