High quality, Super luxurious, but I need my vibes. Sorry Ella - no enchantment here!

I have really struggled over the rating for this review. Ella is definitely a high quality toy and would make a nice gift for someone. She is easy to clean, easy to use, and has a dual ended design for variety. I am giving her three stars for her quality in design, packaging, and silicone.
Ella's been given a reputation of the dildo that is the "best of all" and if that is the case, I will stick to my vibrators.
Kudos to Lelo for their high quality toy - I just wish it left me satisfied.

Use

Ella is a dual ended dildo that is velvety smooth and made of high quality silicone. One end is designed for G-spot stimulation and has a knob at the tip of it. The knob is approximately 1" wide by 1.5" long and extends down for about 1.5" of the shaft. The other end is thicker and more pointy. This end is about 1.25" in diameter and 7" long.

I personally do not care for the pointy end, but do like the G-spot knob at the other end. For me, her pointy end is just too pointy and because she has very little flex to her, she is very uncomfortable. I love her G-spot knob but I wish it was a bit wider because I have a hard time enjoying her since she feels too narrow.

Because she does not have a flared base at either end, I do not recommend her for anal use.

Material / Texture

Ella is made of a velvety soft silicone and has a little bit of drag, but not very much. She is quite rigid, although you can bend the G-spot portion a tiny bit. She holds lube very well when it is put on her and there is no drag when she is lubed.

I recommend her more for anyone who prefers a smaller girth of 1.25" without ridges, bulges, or bumps. Remember though, she is not very flexible like many silicone toys might be.
    • Smooth
    • Not porous at all
    • Rigid

Design / Shape / Size

I love the design of Ella and many of my favorite vibrators have her same shape, design and size. In fact, I purchased her largely because I'd never had a dildo and found that G-spot vibrators worked well for me, so I wanted to try and transition to a dildo.

Her dimensions are:
Length: 7"
Insertable length: 5"
Circumference: 4"
Diameter: 1 1/4"

I only started playing with toys and looking at toys about 2 months ago. At that time, I would have looked at the rose colored version of Ella and not thought that she might be a sex toy. I might have picked her up to play with her simply because she feels so soft to hold in your hands.

However, now that I know more about toys, I would suspect she was a dildo if I saw her. That wouldn't keep me from traveling with her though, because at least she won't set off anything at the airports since she is made of silicone and not metal.

Performance

I love the design for G-spot stimulation and my favorite vibrators have that same design. However, I am not sure if she is not wide enough for me, if she is too smooth for me, or if I simply need vibrations. Probably all of the above! All I know is that she leaves me frustrated and wanting to grab a vibrator instead.

Maybe it is because she is my first dildo.
    • Easy to use

Care and Maintenance

Because Ella is made of high grade silicone she is hypo-allergenic, latex free, non-porous and phthalates free. She can be boiled and is dishwasher safe, however, I find that I can simply clean her with some soap and water and she's fine.

Since she is silicone, you will want to use only water based lubes on her and store her away from other silicone toys. Fortunately, Lelo includes a storage bag to make storing her easy.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

When I think of Lelo, my first thought is "quality" and you can see that not only in the quality of the silicone, but starting in the way it is packaged.

Ella comes in a beautiful black storage box which is very discreet and lovely. It almost reminds me of a jewelers box that you would give a necklace in. When you open the box, Ella is in a black cut-out covered by a clear plastic cover to keep her in place. Underneath this layer are the manuals and sample lube and the black drawstring storage bag.

This gift box is an elegant presentation for this high quality toy.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Very informative

Personal comments

Have you ever been with someone that "should" have been so right for you - and perhaps you stayed together for a while simply because it was the thing to do, but in the back of your mind there was always this dream of someone else?

There is a scene from the movie "You've Got Mail" that reminds me of this and I'm sharing a link to it from YouTube. In the scene, Frank and Kathleen have realized that they need to break up - while they might appear to be perfect for each other on paper - in reality - there is something missing. Meg Ryan's portrayal of Kathleen as she says "No. No...but there is the dream of someone else" , with that wistful look, is exactly the way I feel about Ella.

She should be right for me. I have vibrators that are almost her size and design exactly and her high quality silicone is exactly what I was looking for in a new toy. Yet, I'm left looking around and dreaming for something else to be fulfilling.

You can find this short scene (1:31) at the link below:

Experience

For those who would like G-spot stimulation but feel they might need more than Ella has to give - you may want to look at Rock Star Stevie which is a very nice silicone vibrator with a plastic base and almost the same dimensions as Ella. For some reason, Stevie can bring me to the O's where Ella leaves with a feeling of "oh...maybe later".

This is a gorgeous toy. Great review and I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it more. Hope you find something you like more though.

Ella is so pretty. For a Lelo toy the price point is good. I keep holding off because the curve isn't pronounced enough for me and it doesn't vibrate. I still may end up with Ella just because it's so pretty.

If you want to try another G spot dildo, you might want to check out the Pure Wand. I had great luck with that one despite the lack of vibrations. Like you, I normally need those!!

Great review, as always.

Very nice review! I love the design and appearance of the Ella too, but wondered whether something without vibration would be worthwhile.

I like my Ella, but I don't really love her, either. I feel similarly to you. She's simply too narrow. Not girthy enough for me, and G Spotting alone doesn't do it for me. I've had my Ella for a year or more and I still haven't written a review.

Thank you for being honest.

Nice job---the reviews where they toy didn't win you over but not from any fault of the toy are so hard to write, but you did a great job explaining your dissatisfactions, Ella's good strengths, and even offering a similar, vibrating option

I like my Ella, but I think extra texture or ridges would have made it even better for me.

I would love to try Ella, it is too bad she was not your thing. I think you did a great job on your review though, thanks for sharing.

Nice review. Sorry you didn't love Ella as much as you hoped. If you want to try her with vibrations, you might try using a wand style toy at the same time. Silicone usually transmits vibrations nicely

Thanks for the review. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Ella. She was my first non-vibrating toy, and I was surprised by how much I love her.

  • ella vs. others
    • I want to get ella as my first she doesn't seem as menacing as the others made of glass or metal but are those materials better sensation wise?
    • It comes down to personal preference, really. You're not going to know if glass or metal feels better to you until you try.

A couple things to keep in mind, though: glass and metal have absolutely no give, so they tend to feel bigger than silicone toys of the same size. They're also rather heavy in most cases, and so you need to be a bit more careful when you use them. Being too rough can result in internal bruising. They're very slick and smooth, though, unlike silicone which typically has some drag to it.

The Ella is pretty rigid for a silicone toy, but it's very light and easy to use. It's great if you're new to dildos. :)

I have not tried anything like that I hear alot of good things and alot of not so good things. its up to you to try and see what you prefer..

  • How Does Lelo Ella compare to Gigi?
    • I know that Ella doesn't vibrate, but are there many other differences? I am wondering whether the Ella might be a better shape or size for g-spot stimulation
    • i'm wondering this too. i bought gigi and was disappointed but ella seems even better should I or shouldn't I?

  • Would the Ella work well for a beginner?
    • I'm thinking of getting my bestfriend this for Christmas but she is new to toys. Would this be a good toy to give a newbie? I have not tried it myself so I'm not sure how easy it is to master.
    • I have the similarly shaped Gigi and found nothing but frustration when trying to thrust with it.
    • i think it would be a good option for a beginner.

  • I need help the Ella curve is doing me in.
    • I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have read every review and some twice. I can not figure this girl out. I want to write a review but, how can I write a review on something I do not get. Any ideas would be wonderful. Please help me enjoy this beautiful toy.
    • What do you not get about it? Not every toy works for every woman. Does it hurt to use? Maybe your vagina is too small for it yet or maybe you just need some lube. Do you not feel anything? Again, nothing is for everyone. Try sqeezing the toy by doing kegels when you use it. Some women say that makes things feel better. Or maybe try tilting it up towards your g-spot. That works for me with other toys.

I haven't used it yet. Just recently purchased a white Ella. And I can't wait! We've got the same name! :D
    • If you don't get it you can still write your review from that perspective. I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one who had that experience with it. I have the Ella and she's nice but she's not fireworks for me and that's ok. We all have different experiences with toys and that is what makes these reviews so valuable.

  • Dildo vs. Vibrator
    • I am having a hard time getting used to the idea of a dildo vs. a vibrator! As far as using one goes, how does one decide which is better for oneself? Just wondering and thanks!
    • Quote: I am having a hard time getting used to the idea of a dildo vs. a vibrator! As far as using one goes, how does one decide which is better for oneself? Just wondering and thanks!
What I mean by this I think is, is it easier with one than the other, or maybe does it require a different mind set or even is one better with partner play vs. solo? I don't know, LOL, just curious.
    • When we started with toys it was all about clit vibes for 'effective' reliable orgasms. But as we got into g-spot and a-spot stimulation, dildos have advantages over vibes because pressure is more important than vibes.

Now we almost always have some of both going on. A dildo for internal and a clit vibe for external - although she occasionally likes two vibes.

The only truism I've found is that what she wants/needs is different almost every time. I use to think 'this worked last time - so lets do it again' - but now I think 'we did that last time - what can I do to mix things up'.

That's why we have dozens of toys - both vibes and dildos.

  • Ella for beginners
    • Hey! I was just wondering if Ella would be something an absolute beginner could use, someone who's never gone looking for her g-spot before. She seems awfully tempting, but I wonder if I it's too advanced a toy for me?

Ella is perfect for beginners. I had tried several other G-spot toys before Ella. Ella was the first one that worked for me. Several people have had their first successes with Ella.

  • Ella and Gigi
    • I've had both the Ella and the Gigi sitting in my shopping cart for days now. I was wondering.. should I get them both, or should I maybe just get one to try, then maybe later on get the other if I want?

They both seem so worth it, it's hard to just pick one!
    • Quote: I've had both the Ella and the Gigi sitting in my shopping cart for days now. I was wondering.. should I get them both, or should I maybe just get one to try, then maybe later on get the other if I want?

I just bought the Ella and have not tried it yet, but everyone seems to love it. I have had the GiGi for a couple of months and rarely use it, mainly because the control thing is located in the worst possible spot, and I invariably hit it and make the settings change! Argh! I also had no luck with it for g-spot stimulation, and the only times I get it out it is for clit work.

Even though I wasn't crazy about GiGi, it seems to do the job for a lot of people, so it might work for you. In fact, I bought it based on all the wonderful reviews. I've come to the conclusion that there is no one toy that will do the trick for everyone. Everyone is VERY different in their tastes and what they need.
    • I agree that no toy is good for everyone. I can not get a rabbit vibe that actually works for me by stimulating my clit and vag at the same time. Perhaps its operator error.
Anyway, I love the Gigi. I solved the control issue for me anyway by wiping the lube off the control and my fingers...success. The effectiveness of the Gigi is the vibe plus the design. I don't have the Ella, which is not a vibe but I see it as similar to many of the g spot dils available.
