"TIDALWAAAAAVE!": A review of Lelos' Ella Pleasure Object

In my opinion this dildo needs to come with a warning attached; "Hurricane Ella will likely result in earthquakes and tsunamis throughout the entire southern seaboard". The Ella is a solidly constructed, silky smooth, G-spot seeking toy that can be sterilized and comes with two awesome options for storage. It also happens to be totally affordable. Why would you not buy this?

Use

The Ella is designed as a small double sided dildo intended for personal use. It is best suited for pretty much any woman seeking fantastic g-spot stimulation, it is small enough for beginners but will satisfy even the most advanced sex toy aficionados. It can be used by those who enjoy a thrusting motion or rocked against the g-spot, both providing excellent results.

Though it is a completely non porous material, it has no flared base and would not likely be safe for use anally. Other than that it would work in pretty much any situation, providing that you have enough sense not to do something silly like bring it to family dinner (that could be an awkward scene).

Material / Texture

The Lelo Ella is constructed of 100% silicone. Silicone is a nonporous, food-grade material, that is hypo-allergenic, phthalates and latex free. Pure silicone is characterized by having no detectable odor or taste.

This particular toy comes in a matte silicone which is so smooth that it feels like satin and velvet combined. I did not find that the matte surface required any more lube than plastic or glass toys do; certainly not as much as porous materials can demand. I think that the slight drag of the texture might actually aid in stimulating the g-spot, and it definitely helps with maintaining a grip during use. The silicone is firm but not hard and stiff but not rigid; there is enough give to bend a little with your body and to not be uncomfortable during vigorous thrusting.

Design / Shape / Size

The design of this is really fantastic, although I was concerned at first that it looked small, the size became beneficial during use as it provided more maneuverability. It also means that just about anybody can enjoy this dildo because it isn't going to frighten them off by being the size of their grandfathers forearm.

Both ends of the Ella can be inserted, one end is designed for g-spot stimulation while the other end is tapered and somewhat pointy at the tip (not pointy enough that it's likely to damage to the cervix though). The shaft is a rounded triangular shape (picture what you would get if a triangle ate a circle or vice versa) which makes it easy to hold onto and prefect for adjusting the angle of the g-spot stimulator to allow for the best possible experience. Whichever end you choose to insert, a strong clitoral vibe can be applied to the "handle" and the vibrations will travel through the silicone and into your body.

The design is fairly discreet, so unless your friends and family know that you are into sex toys you have a 50/50 shot of them believing it's nothing more than an odd decoration. Higher than that if you are a really believable liar.

Performance

Stellar! The area of this toy that is designed to target the g-spot is exceptional. The rounded edge of the head gently bumps the g-spot before sliding across it creating additional pressure. I have a few other G-spot toys and only one(the Glass Wand) even comes close to rivaling the Ella in this department.

The opposite end of the dildo creates an entirely different experience; the tapered end is very easy to insert and the stimulation on this end is created by the widening body of the toy. Though enjoyable in comparison to the opposite side, this one really didn't do all that much for me.

Care and Maintenance

To clean this puppy up simply use an antibacterial soap and water or a toy cleaner. If you want to be really thorough about it you also have three methods of sterilization to choose from

1. Submerge dildo in a pot of boiling water for 3 minutes (and DON't use your fingers to do it).
2. Clean dildo with a 10% bleach solution. Bleach will kill most organisms on contact but for full
sterilization the dildo should be submerged for a full 20 minutes.
3. Place dildo in top rack of dishwasher and run a normal cycle.

Note: for all above cleaning methods, a soft lint free towel should be used for drying.

Lubes that are compatible with this dildo are: WATER
Yep thats it, and unless you want to discover the horrible effects of using an incompatible lube you will trust me on this. (Just like you should trust the instructions!)

Storage is easy because the Ella comes with both a sturdy and stylish box and a beautiful white satin pouch giving you the opportunity to choose your preferred method of storage. Whatever you decide, keep in mind silicone toys should be kept out of direct contact with any toys you are not absolutely certain are 100% silicone; it can react badly with other materials possibly ruining a perfectly good implement of self torture.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The Ella arrives packaged in a cardboard box; 5 sides including the top of this box are whichever colour you have chosen your product in. The top bears only the Lelo insignia in 1/4" silver lettering. The other sides all bear information about the product, including the bottom which boasts a life size image of the Ella.

Inside the box you will find a second box, this one is black and made of material that reminds me of those canvassy hardcover sketchbooks. The only indicator of what the box contains is again the 1/4" Lelo insignia, only this time it's in black. This box could easily be used for presenting the Ella as a gift, it also makes for great storage. The dildo sits in molded plastic to keep it from moving around in transit. It is accompanied by an instructional booklet, a 1 year warranty, a small catalog of the products in the toy line and a white satin pouch for storage.
    • Good for storage
    • Very informative

Personal comments

I love this thing.

Experience

My experience concerning the Ella was fantastic in all regards, from the moment I pulled it out of the cardboard box I was impressed. My biggest fear was that it would be too small to be satisfying but boy was I wrong. From the box, to the texture of the silicone, to the insane ease with which the Ella stimulates the G-spot I really cannot find a con with this toy. Even the shape of the handle aided in maintaining the angle of the head and the matte texture helped stop it from slipping in my hand. Did I already mention that I freaking love this thing!

I have owned the Ella for little over a week and already it has provided me with multiple gushing orgasms. I don't doubt that it will remain at my bedside for years to come.
Follow-up commentary
I am actually scared to use this dildo. Not because it hurts or I am concerned it will break, but because I don't yet own a Liberator throe and I cannot afford to spend 15 dollars on laundry every time I accidentally soak through 7 layers of bedding and towels. The Ella is amazing, I am in love, and yet.... terrified. Liberator throe, here I come!

I had seen this toy a lot and assume it vibrates. So it does not?
Either way, I think this might have to go on my wishlist. Maybe in the sleek black. This is one of many reviews praising the Ella.

  • ella vs. others
    • I want to get ella as my first she doesn't seem as menacing as the others made of glass or metal but are those materials better sensation wise?
    • It comes down to personal preference, really. You're not going to know if glass or metal feels better to you until you try.

A couple things to keep in mind, though: glass and metal have absolutely no give, so they tend to feel bigger than silicone toys of the same size. They're also rather heavy in most cases, and so you need to be a bit more careful when you use them. Being too rough can result in internal bruising. They're very slick and smooth, though, unlike silicone which typically has some drag to it.

The Ella is pretty rigid for a silicone toy, but it's very light and easy to use. It's great if you're new to dildos. :)

  • How Does Lelo Ella compare to Gigi?
    • I know that Ella doesn't vibrate, but are there many other differences? I am wondering whether the Ella might be a better shape or size for g-spot stimulation
    • i'm wondering this too. i bought gigi and was disappointed but ella seems even better should I or shouldn't I?

  • Would the Ella work well for a beginner?
    • I'm thinking of getting my bestfriend this for Christmas but she is new to toys. Would this be a good toy to give a newbie? I have not tried it myself so I'm not sure how easy it is to master.
    • I have the similarly shaped Gigi and found nothing but frustration when trying to thrust with it.
    • i think it would be a good option for a beginner.

  • I need help the Ella curve is doing me in.
    • I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have read every review and some twice. I can not figure this girl out. I want to write a review but, how can I write a review on something I do not get. Any ideas would be wonderful. Please help me enjoy this beautiful toy.
    • What do you not get about it? Not every toy works for every woman. Does it hurt to use? Maybe your vagina is too small for it yet or maybe you just need some lube. Do you not feel anything? Again, nothing is for everyone. Try sqeezing the toy by doing kegels when you use it. Some women say that makes things feel better. Or maybe try tilting it up towards your g-spot. That works for me with other toys.

I haven't used it yet. Just recently purchased a white Ella. And I can't wait! We've got the same name! :D
    • If you don't get it you can still write your review from that perspective. I'm sure you wouldn't be the only one who had that experience with it. I have the Ella and she's nice but she's not fireworks for me and that's ok. We all have different experiences with toys and that is what makes these reviews so valuable.

  • Dildo vs. Vibrator
    • I am having a hard time getting used to the idea of a dildo vs. a vibrator! As far as using one goes, how does one decide which is better for oneself? Just wondering and thanks!
    • Quote: I am having a hard time getting used to the idea of a dildo vs. a vibrator! As far as using one goes, how does one decide which is better for oneself? Just wondering and thanks!
What I mean by this I think is, is it easier with one than the other, or maybe does it require a different mind set or even is one better with partner play vs. solo? I don't know, LOL, just curious.
    • When we started with toys it was all about clit vibes for 'effective' reliable orgasms. But as we got into g-spot and a-spot stimulation, dildos have advantages over vibes because pressure is more important than vibes.

Now we almost always have some of both going on. A dildo for internal and a clit vibe for external - although she occasionally likes two vibes.

The only truism I've found is that what she wants/needs is different almost every time. I use to think 'this worked last time - so lets do it again' - but now I think 'we did that last time - what can I do to mix things up'.

That's why we have dozens of toys - both vibes and dildos.

  • Ella for beginners
    • Hey! I was just wondering if Ella would be something an absolute beginner could use, someone who's never gone looking for her g-spot before. She seems awfully tempting, but I wonder if I it's too advanced a toy for me?

Ella is perfect for beginners. I had tried several other G-spot toys before Ella. Ella was the first one that worked for me. Several people have had their first successes with Ella.

I'm glad Ella seems like such a successful toy! I hope she works for me, too <3

  • Ella and Gigi
    • I've had both the Ella and the Gigi sitting in my shopping cart for days now. I was wondering.. should I get them both, or should I maybe just get one to try, then maybe later on get the other if I want?

They both seem so worth it, it's hard to just pick one!

I just bought the Ella and have not tried it yet, but everyone seems to love it. I have had the GiGi for a couple of months and rarely use it, mainly because the control thing is located in the worst possible spot, and I invariably hit it and make the settings change! Argh! I also had no luck with it for g-spot stimulation, and the only times I get it out it is for clit work.

Even though I wasn't crazy about GiGi, it seems to do the job for a lot of people, so it might work for you. In fact, I bought it based on all the wonderful reviews. I've come to the conclusion that there is no one toy that will do the trick for everyone. Everyone is VERY different in their tastes and what they need.
    • I agree that no toy is good for everyone. I can not get a rabbit vibe that actually works for me by stimulating my clit and vag at the same time. Perhaps its operator error.
Anyway, I love the Gigi. I solved the control issue for me anyway by wiping the lube off the control and my fingers...success. The effectiveness of the Gigi is the vibe plus the design. I don't have the Ella, which is not a vibe but I see it as similar to many of the g spot dils available.
