Are more women watching porn?

In today's article on SexIs, Rachel Rabbit White interviewed porn star Danny Wylde. If you haven't read it yet, you really should. It was really enlightening.

One answer I found particularly interesting is when she asked him if more women are watching porn. He said, "I actually have heard a lot from straight, female fans. One of the most fascinating things to me is how young some of them are. I think it’s actually pretty cool that younger women are able to feel so comfortable these days consuming porn. I think some cultural barriers are just starting to fall. It’s a shame it’s taken this long, but porn is finally becoming “cool,” or at least acceptable, for women to watch — at least in some portion of the population. It probably has a lot to do with positive female sexual role models in porn. Women are sexual beings. They have just as much a right as men to express themselves. Porn should be an outlet in which to do that."

What do you think? Do you agree with him?

I don't know if more women are watching it or not. I have a few girlfriends that watch it, but they've watched it for a long time. I do think women are becoming more open about watching it, regardless of the type of porn it may be.

Also, if you look at some of the current women in porn like Sasha Grey and Riley Steele, for example, they're crossing over into mainstream movies, which might broaden the appeal to women, or make them interested to see them in their porn movies if they like them in the mainstream ones.

I would think that more women are. I think the proportion is probably around the same. There's more women on the planet today, as compared to 20 years ago. The industry really hasn't changed, so I would think the appeal is also the same.
