What do you think of Kink.com's live "deflowering"

Contributor: namelesschaos namelesschaos
This made a splash today on twitter, on January 15 Kink.com will be holding a live deflowering ceremony where cam girl Niki Blue will (supposedly)lose here virginity (first vaginal intercourse) live on camera for your viewing pleasure.

Read about it here on Kink.com: link
and the press release: link

My view of this is best summed up by Maggie Mayhem: link

"I do not take issue with Ms. Blue’s fantasy and desire to have vaginal sex for the first time on camera. I do not take issue with the fact that it can be incredibly hot and sexy to watch someone have vaginal sex for the first time....
I do have issues with press releases that perpetuate dangerous myths."

"The only reason that a lot of people are speaking up about this has to do with the expressed mission statement to, “…demystify and celebrate alternative sexualities by providing the most ethical and authentic kinky adult entertainment.” In this case, sexuality is not being demystified; it is being further obscured. It does not celebrate alternative sexualities because it so very deeply phallocentric and heteronormative."

Now I'll finish by saying I doubt this is her actual first PIV intercourse, my assumption is she just has a thick vaginal corona that photographs well on that "hymen-cam" and kink.com knows this and it is all a big publicity stunt; which only makes the misinformation even more distasteful. Although on the other hand it would be funny (although not for her) if she is actually a virgin and the entire concept of the shoot backfires because she has a thin difficult to see corona.

Interesting. I too doubt that she's actually a virgin. There are clips all over the web proclaiming a virgin being deflowered (and perhaps in the case of "anal cherries" being popped, that may be the case). As such, I guess it is the live nature of it that makes it unique. I don't have any interest in seeing it, as I like seeing women enjoying sex when I watch porn, and I imagine there is a pretty good chance she won't be enjoying aspects of it (even with any acting involved).

It definitely doesn't delve into alternate sexualities, and to me, doesn't fit in with the rest of kink.com's library. Just a promotional stunt indeed.

Well color me surprised, the CEO of kink.com actually listened to criticism and is making some changes to the event'ss marketing. You can read his response here: link

One example is that the banner that previously read "TheUpperFloor.com take Niki Blue's Virginity" Example in this post: link have been changed to read "Nicki Blue's First Ever Pussy Penetration", a much more positive way to word things. You can see the banner with the new wording on the event's page: link

I'm not a 100% convinced this shoot is being done in good faith but as the CEO actually responding to criticism is more then I was expecting; I'm more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt now.

Also for those of you who read Jezebel they also had an article on this: link

I like that they reworded things. It was so obviously a promotional stunt. You can guarantee people will be watching.

As for "perpetuating dangerous myths"--I don't know. I think dangerous may be too strong a word.

I agree. Sadly there will be an audience.

Why?

Explain your position. I don't see how this is different than any other type of niche porn. Especially because, as has been stated, this probably isn't her first vaginal penetration. It's just publicity, and the fact that this thread even exists means that it's working.

I think its a neat idea, and opens many interesting discussions regarding porn, technology's effects on sexuality and society's conception of virginity.

I don't doubt that she is a virgin, regardless of whether a hymen is present or not (all girls know how that breaking a hymen isn't always due to sex). I was a virgin until I was 22 but started kink when I was 12; she is in front of the camera and my behind doors is really not that great a chasm.

Who the fuck are we to judge anyway, honestly? The idea of virginity and what constitutes its 'loss' is purely individualistic. How funny that a community that would comfort rape survivors with words of hope regarding a continuation of virginity would, in the same forum, doubt another girls' claim--because she is more public. Come on, guys. You can't have it both ways. My examples are extreme, yes, but both pinpoint to the concept of virginal sanctity.

Is it tasteful? Interesting? Will it even amount to good smut? I doubt it. But the idea of wanting to share that experience with not just your partner but an audience as well, of your own volition, is a powerful idea, and one that I do find brave.

It makes me think of how Britney Spears was also a "virgin."

I think that she is telling the truth about her PIV virginity, and based on watching the promo video about her I can see that her hymen/vaginal corona is quite thick. I also understand and support her desires to have an audience for her 'deflowering'; it's how she wants to make things special for herself, and that's fantastic.

I do, however, have SERIOUS issue with the ideas being promoted about virginity and the hymen. I honestly never even remember having the damn thing, and it certainly doesn't make you a virgin or not. There are so many definitions and nuances that haven't been taken into account.

To me it is Kink.com that wanted to have it both ways. They initially marketed the event like every other faked “deflowering” vid on the net and I treated it as such. If kink.com wanted this event to be taken seriously they shot themselves in the foot with how they handled it. Also, remember this is porn it is their job to sell fantasies I find it much more probable that she had PIV, but found she had a very resilient corona that could be used as a usefully marketing gimmick. Now that she decided that it to her best interest to drop the gimmick and do vaginal and multiple penetration scenes (it’s part of the planed deflowering ritual and her site already has DP listed as coming soon) she going to milk the gimmick for all it worth in one last epic scene.

Although as I said the response by kink was really much more than I expected from well anyone, politicians/other companies both adult and non-adult take notes, so I do believe they do deserve major kudos there whether or not anyone is going to be having their first PIV live on camera tonight at 7:00 PST.

Well to wrap it up, as much as I hate to buy in to Kink.com marketing ploy I can’t help but find myself following this story so here are a few more links on “hymen-gate”:

And a third this one has a good comparison of the old and new press release: link
And lastly Jezebel’s post apology follow up: link

O well it is all about to go down in about 3-4 hours and then we can move on to the next controversy.

Well, the 15th has come and gone. Does the deflowering have any aftermath or any reviews?

I completely agree with the Maggie Mayhem excerpt you have up there. I'm also really impressed with the way the CEO of Kink.com handled the criticism; it's really refreshing.

I personally think it is dumb. In most cases people go into "losing their virginity" thinking one thing and end up coming out of it feeling differently than they expected. On top of that we never know what we are going to regret, 1, 2, 5, or 10 yrs down the rd. ESPECIALLY not when we are younger. I just don't think that this is a good idea. I also don't like that they would be perpetuating and encouraging behavior like this. Whether the it is/was her first or not, it isn't something that I think should be marketed.

While I know this is old news for everyone I was going through my reader and saw this post by Mistress Matisse on the issue and thought I'd add it to the thread.

First thing she having watched the video and believes that Miss blue was a virgin and I'm that note,I'm not going to argue with her experience on the matter so I'll concede that the shoot was probably legit. With that out of the way she think thing was a bad idea on Miss Blues part.

Her Stranger article: link

"has the right is not the same as a good idea. An inexperienced woman getting into Big Porn to "explore her sexuality"? That's a seriously bad idea"

and the some expanded thought on her own blog: link

"think it like this: Actors rehearse, athletes train, and musicians practice. If you want your sexuality to enrich the lives of other people, and you want to be happy doing so, learn your skills in private. Then go forth and make the world a sexier place."
