One often hears people refer to dominants as strict or severe, but rarely ever do people speak about the caring and loving side of them. Everyone seems under the impression that either you're a severe and strict dominant or you're sweet, caring, and not to be taken seriously. Do you guys think the union between strict and sweet is possible, or must the dominant always be strict and severe?
Can strict and sweet mix?

Um... I think the problem here is not "can it happen" but rather "can people stop adhering to strict roles". I have noticed in the BDSM (and other!) community that there are some really common stereotypes, such as that dominant women must wear uncomfortable heeled shoes and a tight corset in order to present the correct "face" or that submissive men are undervalued and trivialized weaklings. Like all communities, there are strict "gender" (and sometimes sex) roles that are implied and enforced, and when people deviate from these norms, they can be made to feel uncomfortable.
