Do you research before you try new things (anything from rope play to fire cupping) with your partner? If so, what modes or sources of information do you use?

I talk to people in the local scene who have experience doing new types of play and research it on the internet/through books. So, all of the above, really.

I research new things to try in a lot of ways. I usually start with researching online, but usually don't feel it is enough. I like to go to in-person demos and classes when they are available and personally feel that is the best way to learn. I've bought several educational videos and books. They are helpful too, but I find the demos at events to be the most helpful.

Thus far, I haven't done anything with my current partner because of the distance between us, but I have had him do a little research in his free time about a few basic things or had him look up things I happen to enjoy myself instead of just telling him.
Usually I give him a few links to the information though, he'd have to clue where to look (he's pretty new to it all).

On my own, I research anything that I want to try someday on the internet thoroughly to get a basic knowledge of how it works and any potential safety risks (and how to lessen the risk as much as possible, but not much of what I'm into is terribly risky anyway).

The internet is my best friend with research. I am a research junkie. I does not have to just be things about sex, but everything in general. Depending on what type of "new things" you are researching would very where to research. For our lifestyle I have also utilized a few non-fiction books as well, but the internet is overall more accessible and I don't have people bugging me what I am reading like I always get with books.

Yes, and I generally use the internet. Eden is a great resource. If I have any questions, I tend to look over reviews or go to the forums.

Depends on how outside the norm...sometimes it's just reading it in a book, and trying it out...other times it requires a little more research, and a few purchases

I'm all about research: books, internet, talking to friends and people in the scene...

(But I'm a researcher in my real life too, so that probably isn't super-exciting.)

The internet is full of good resources. I've used lots of places on the web that are informative (Eden is one of them!)I know how to tell a legit source from a crap one, too. Thank you, school.

I do not trust one source... I read many books, speak with many people, and read a ton online. I think it's best to get as many perspectives as possible.
