My wife is quickly becoming obsessed. Thoughts?
Has anyone played with barbed wire?

Admittedly, I'm not into BDSM, but I live on a ranch and have seen the scars left on any number of different animals from their encounters with barbed wire. These are horses cows and donkeys who have fur coats and thick skin, not our rather frail human flesh.
The idea of anyone "playing" with barbed wire just flat out scares me. It is very dangerous stuff. I won't allow it on our current ranch. Most of my friends won't allow it on their properties either. When visiting an acquaintance's cattle ranch, my husband went to lean his hand on the fence (which is perfectly safe at our house and most of our friends) and tore up his hand pretty badly because it was a barbed wire fence.
It's just my opinion, but I think barbed wire is better left in the fantasy realm and not brought into your real life.

Yes, but not on purpose. I fell into a bunch of rust clumps hidden in brush. Lots of stitches!!1

Aaack! I'd never do it, but to each their own! Just be SUPER careful! Especially around soft tissues if you get my gist!
07/18/2011
Ah, that sounds scary!
07/18/2011
it's personally not my cup of tea. i can only appreciate light pain; that would be way too much for me.

I have seen what barbed wire does to horses, and as an equestrian/former and future horse owner I would not even board a horse where they use it as fencing. Why the heck would anyone use it in sex play?
07/19/2011
Um... personally I will have to pass on this. I had never even considered it and it sounds too scary to me

I am conceptually interested, but I worry about the galvanized wire and safety precautions with it. To me it seems more like a photo shoot thing than something viable for real play.

Strange, never thought of it. I don't think I'd be interested, but that's not to say it isn't a unique, possibly fun idea.

scary

Admittedly, I enjoy kinky things and intense sensation. But, barbed wire just seems dangerous to me. There are plenty of BDSM toys that can stimulate well, without risking one's health and overall body integrity.
I, also, have seen what barbed wire does to animals. This is not something I want on my tender skin.
So, no. It's not for me. And, seeing as the stuff usually rusts like crazy, and has all kinds of nooks to hide dirt, bacteria, body fluids, blood, I can't imagine how it could be kept clean. Tetanus is a serious illness, if not caught in time, does not have a very good survival rate.
No thanks, no barbed wire for me.
It makes a cute tattoo, though. If you're like, a tough guy. LOL!

I can be pretty damn kinky but even I wouldn't play with real barbed wire! Plastic barbed wire is a different story though
07/19/2011
No I'm not interested in barbed wire
07/19/2011
No thanks! The very function of its design is to rip and puncture skin...*shudder*

One of my 'hard limits' is "nothing with lasting negative health effects," and I don't predict that anyone could make the case that it was impossible to transmit tetanus if you were intentionally using barbed wire. So, it's probably not for me. And I hope your wife has her shots current!

@LingaLoo me too!
07/19/2011
no but it's definitely something I would try.

The idea of it sounds interesting, but I probably wouldn't do it.

But yeah, the only way I could see using barbed wire is as a decoration or something, heh.

Thank you. That still looks like it could do some damage, but maybe with real light usage or with some loose ties or situational bondage it could be interesting.

I wonder if anyone makes barbed wire that isn't quite as razor sharp, for the purpose you're considering or some other application. Something that looks like barbed wire could have a similar effect...
Rose stems spring to mind, actually. I know they are really not the same thing at all, but they're very accessible and could be a fun way to play around a bit.
