I have seen them before, but I was never very interested in them. They didn't seem necessary for our play or sexy. They kind of remind me of the "roommate agreement" as seen on The Big Bang Theory, hehe.

Each to their own, but that level of formality is unnecessary to me. I have legal training anyway, so I'm conscious that an oral contract is no less valid.

I haven't personally, but I know people who have. Basically it protects the parties involved so if there is a car accident and the submissive/slave has marks all over their body they are protected. At least that was my understanding. To me it sounds like it protects the Dom/Master more than the submissive/slave.

We have an agreement but not really written a formal contract.

I actually have found that I NEED a contract for my BDSM play to be successful with long term partners (not just, oh hey! I'm gonna let you flog me tonight). I say this because there's something in my brain that will say "it doesn't count as rule breaking if I can't have it written down". So when I don't have "rules" written, I find loopholes or flat out ignore it because I literally cannot process not having some form of written communication between my dom and I.

Ours is loosely written, but I have all my rules and expectations written down on it and signed at the bottom. I have sections for standing orders, permanent rules, things to do to please Sir, and some of his dislikes. It helps me compartmentalize so that I can relax and KNOW exactly what my rules are, and be able to face the punishment when I break it.

Yes, My Master and I have a BDSM contract. We did this several years ago. Although I never did "sign" it.... it's still considered valid by each of us.
