I'm going to be getting what I hope will be a permanent piece (so, artistic cutting turned scarification) of art cut into my body in a month or two. What do y'all think of artistic cuttings, Eden?
What are your thoughts on artistic cuttings?

I love the look of some of them to be honest. My experience with cutting is in working with those who struggle with it to manage emotion, and so in that way I think my view is somewhat tainted. It is by no means representative of the whole, and looking at body modification in general the community seems to be moving more in the direction of more elaborate rituals like scarification and body tattoos ect....In my mind, they are pretty on the bodies of those who are choosing them with confidence and coming from a place of inner wholeness.

The ones I see tend to fade

Not a fan!

PAIN!!

Whatever works for you. Some are pretty cool to look at. I can't imagine doing it though.

It's an interesting way for a person to express themself. It's not for me though.

I think they can look cool, but I've never tried it myself. Maybe some day!

Scarification can be really beautiful. Best wishes on your future piece!

To each their own I suppose.

I find them really nice. My Baby would love to have something like that, though she is afraid of needles, cutting and things like that. (But she handled her tattooes better than I expected!)
I wouldn't say I'm a fan, neither that I don't like them - I just wonder if she should really have more than tattooes... Just why to bother. (She has also mentioned to me how much she would love to be branded by me. I have practice with branding kettle, it is painful, so I wouldn't be into branding her, and too much hassle with the aftercare...)

Well, I would love to have some, because there is something more to it than tattoos... Something more special, deeper, more intimate...

I am really scared to death of the whole idea of being cut though, and anything done with the open wound after that, but I think I could handle it... ^^ (I was truly scared of the whole idea of tattoos too, but I wanted my Master's Marks on my flesh so badly that it meant no problem to make myself go through the whole thing - now am a "tattoo collector" and can't wait to get my next tattoo, getting more and more of them, and more and more intricate ones!!! ~grins ~giggles)

I'm not a fan, but then I am not a fan of tattoos. For me, things like that are FOREVER and I cannot help but think what it will look like when I am 80...not pretty!

I think they CAN be done quite beautifully. I struggled with cutting for a loooong time, and would like to eventually get a piece that would represent my struggles with it. But I don't know if I will or not. I think it's really neat, and much better than branding.

For the most part, I think it looks creepy

Whatever floats your boat. I have too many scars from when I was struggling with depression, so I don't think I'd ever want to get one myself... But I think if you like it and it would make you happy, go for it!

Ouch but to each their own.

Not a fan of them myself, my preference is tattoos, but to each their own.

To be fair, not a whole lot of anyone looks the same as it did when they were 20. So, my thought is why not enjoy your body and the art you put on it while you can?

NOT my thing at all!
09/07/2012
definitely not my thing!! i love body art and have a few tattoo's but no thanks on the cutting/flesh removal... thats way too scary to me
09/07/2012
Not in to the cutting thing
09/07/2012
Not into it at all.

Knifeplay is one of my favorite things, but I haven't thought too much about artistic cuttings. :]
09/12/2012
Love looking at it, but not one to have it done to me.
09/12/2012
I would never have it in me for scarification. I think the pain would just be too much for me. Artistic cutting is beautiful though. Cutting for me started as self harm, but it grew into artistic cutting. (I've much since healed from my self harm days )
I bet it will look beautiful though!
