What type of collar do you prefer?

Contributor: MaryExy MaryExy
I'm mainly thinking about for everyday wear, not specific to playtime. But do you prefer very obvious, leather-and-stud collars? Locking steel collars? Some piece of jewelry that functions as a collar?

I'd love to hear what specifically you use at the moment and/or have used before.

I voted other as I like jewlery looking collars but I also like the feel of a locking leather one or one with studs.

Well, I own 13 collars at this time. I have some for everyday wear as well as so for play. Some were even gifts from other friends that are collar fetishist. I have a sleek locking steel collar I wear daily, but I also have a few decorative collars that aren't really for use besides show.

I wear a steel collar 24/7. Master gave it to me when we got married instead of a wedding ring. I love it!

For BDSM play, I prefer a really snug posture collar, or a neck corset. The edges have to be well made and smooth, though or you can't take it for very long.

I wear a necklace, which was my original "public" collar, and an Eternity Collar (steel circlet) at all times.

The first "collar" M purchased was a leather dog collar with studs. We have this collar that's made of leather and is very BDSM-y as opposed to animal-y. And there are all sorts of collars I'd love to own.

I don't really have a preference. They all sort of have a purpose and each holds a special place in my heart. Even the damn dog collar which never fails to give me a horrific rash.

In my day-to-day life I do appreciate the symbolism of a more traditional collar and have one that isn't exactly a collar per se, more a choker with elements that I find important (a padlock heart-type thing). However, this is a temporary collar, of sorts - not a collar of consideration or anything like that - I am owned and all that jazz, but we have not made our union, so to speak, official, or had a ceremony or any of that ritual-like stuff. When it comes time to do that, and take it to an even higher level, we've decided that this will serve as my everyday collar. As for play (though I know you were asking specifically about NON-play collars), even in that context I prefer something with a little femininity and beauty as well as functionality. I am definitely NOT the huge spikes type of sub.

I've also made collars for myself using thick satin rope and putting dogtags and other like items on them in the past. Anything so it's not terribly obvious but one might get the gist if they were also in the lifestyle.

My next collar solely for play will be the crave collar with nipple clamps. I love the rich, deep purple, which happens to be his fave color.

We rarely bring the collars out, but when we do it's simple, thick and primal

I can't wear anything around my neck. I feel choked and can't breathe.

We've found some beautiful collars out there. My favorite is made in solid metals (gold, silver) with an embossed design on the outside and Master's name engraved on the interior. It looks more like jewelry until you see the lock - which can be in front or back!

I wore the Pretty plain collar as an everyday one for two years, and loved it. I was a goth at the time, so it was unremarkable. Now, I think I would prefer one that looks more like jewelry, but it's going to ultimately be up to my Master as to what I wear.

I'm not into day-to-day collar wear, but as far as the bedroom goes, I have an extensive puppy collar collection.

All types. Eventually, I would like to bestow an eternity collar on someone. For now, leather works fine.

i think something a little plainer (without the jewels) would be better for wearing out.

I'm quite partial to the classic chain and lock variety. Although I do also have a pup tag that I wear on a silver chain under my shirt for daily wear.

my favorite collar is a very high 6" posture collar made of thick leather. i think it came from dungeonwear. it has two roller buckles in the back and a d ring in the front. the only issue is that it is so high it is nearly impossible to put on without help.

I look fairly "subculture" as it is so even if I was wearing a totally dungeon-appropriate collar I doubt people would give me much of a second look (you know, outside of the looks they already give me for looking pretty weird in general).

I'm not a "collared slave" or anything like that so I don't wear a collar out in public too often. But the ones I do wear out are fairly obvious.
