That's true. I'm sure they think they either don't belong here because they're new or just casual visitors or just because they have no idea what goes on here.

But since the clubs are experiencing a bit of a lag too, I wonder if it's just the time of year? Or perhaps we're reaching maximum capacity for the number of clubs? I'm not sure, to be honest.

Then again, I'm new and prone to lurking.
Aw, welcome! Lurk no more and join in! (Or lurk and learn more. )

Do we think more promotion on Facebook or Twitter might draw in a bit more of a crowd?
It wouldn't hurt, but personally, I don't think drawing in the casual crowd will help long term. We need to get people who have been long time reviewers more involved in CEC as well as the clubs, if possible.

I started out the same way and now I am a blight on the community, so things can change fast.

And welcome!

I think this is an issue as well. I have limited time and already have to pick and choose what I want to participate in.

New is great! Aside from not knowing what we were going to be talking about, is there anything else that kept you lurking instead of posting?

Yeah, somewhat. That and it always seems like I either forget or the meetings aren't at the most convenient times.

I think you're right. How would you draw in more long time members?

I am overwhelmed with RL stuff. New job, spring cleanup, and clubs that I cant keep up with.

I think it is more fundamental than that. How do we get more people to view this place as a community where they have a say rather than however they think of it?

What would you (or anybody) think of meetings during the day? Or even on the weekends? I know there was a poll about it a little while back.

Maybe, I am not to sure. Maybe a thread asking the community? It could be that folks are just not interested in clubs and such. So making it a private vote may help get better results.

I must ditto this. Quality over quantity. Where have all our 'usuals' and 'elders' gone? Besides, this group tends to bring in (especially via the mentor program) more longterm students/ members in the community. Hm, but then again, that brings out how Eden could go about drawing in new members that haven't yet even found EdenFantasys... Hmmm...

Clubs are one thing, but could the CEC somehow be more of a running thread discussion rather than a meeting? That way people can casually contribute as they see fit. Or at least maybe part of CEC can switch to this method with a weekly follow-up meeting?

Being shy and multitasking are the only other things that keep me from posting.

Also, thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

As for clubs, I know Laurel from the Naked Readers Book Club has had some issues getting on the site, as was briefly mentioned last meeting. That might contribute to the lack of activity for some clubs, if other users are having similar problems?

Every thread is open to things being added after a discussion is over. We do check the threads when they come back up, but if people don't contribute something as they see fit between meetings, we can't see it to bring up at the next meeting.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm most open to meetings later at night... like 11pm or so.
Seven o'clock kinda interferes with dinner much of time, plus its not something I want my kids lurking about asking questions of what I am looking at. At least at night they are tucked in bed.

I was thinking that starting the threads with an open topic asking for specifics would entice more people to comment. Very few people tend to add to these meeting threads afterwards.

I wouldn't mind that myself just since that would be more like 7 pm for me.

Quite possibly.

As a newer user (sorry for the barrage of questions), how could we have reached you sooner? Or how would you do things differently about the way we run the clubs and other meetings?

And I think that is another issue. People have different schedules, live in different time zones. It's impossible to get a time that works for everyone.

I agree and when I was new I had no idea what the CEC was so I never even bothered opening the thread to begin with.
