Hey, if anyone's a really good seamstress and wants to publish simple, non-padded bra patterns? I'm all ears! That's tying boobies into arts and crafts, right?

will not be in the contest if it's not EF related. the contest is just for EF Fan art.

The contest is based on fan art. The other work can go in the Show Your Work thread and isn't part of a contest, but still stuff we'd all love to see!

Why dont you just rip apart into sections your old one that you like and use it as a base for a pattern. Thats what I used to do with shirts, and skirts and things that I liked but wanted to change a little.

Mayhaps I don't have that much to worry about. Mine still make the crusties on the barbells, which is fairly irritating because sometimes it builds up enough between cleanings that it really starts to hurt. Most of the time I'm fine if I just clean them in the shower.

It's funny how much destruction goes into the construction of things!

I don't really have anything that I've done yet, aside from string the lights on the Christmas tree. My mom put up most of the ornaments, and I haven't made any this year.

Thats so true. I dont usually clean the work area till a project is done because it gets crazy like a tornado hit. Its fun pulling things apart for kit bashing/up cycle.

I design patterns based on things I play around with and memorize the seams of.

I had an old book that I HATED because it personally offended me, so I ripped it up and made it into art saying how much I hated the subject matter of the book. That was very fun.

Alright, so what's an ATC, you ask?

if you're unfamiliar, the basics is you make a card the size of a playing card (or USE a playing card) (2 ½ X 3 ½ inch or 64 X 89 mm card stock. ) into a little piece of art using whatever media you like. then you mail them out, to receive beautiful pieces of art back! it's a great way to share your art, and get to know the art of others around the country.

the mail ATC program is awesome, because it's so fun and creative, and you get something other than bills in your mailbox! remember when you got letters from friends in the mail as a kid? it's THAT kind of excitement.

the best part is, you don't have to be an 'artist' to participate. anyone can, kids, cats, even folks who've never picked up a crayon in their life! there is no 'right' or 'wrong.' as long as you enjoy making it and put effort into it, it's wonderful.

some folks use collage for beautiful effects. you can use watercolor, stamps, stickers, you can also dip them in beeswax when they're finished to make them more sturdy. you can buy little packs of 'artist trading card' blanks at any art store on the cheap.

and... some images for consideration!

Usually seeing books-cut-up-into-art makes me really sad because I'm strongly attached to books, and it just seems like the artists buy used books that were cheap but otherwise might have been good books and destroyed them.

But if you actually hated it? Then that's cool.

Ya, that makes me really really sad, too. Especially when it was a really good book that got torn up and ruined... I saw something made from the pages of an old copy of Paradise Lost once, and it killed me, because I would have given my right arm to own that copy when it was in one piece.

ps. sam! reminder... work on your ATCs!

have you been out to look for the official cards? they're out in just about any art store. michael's and hobby lobby have entire sections dedicated to ATCs. there are embellishments and stamps and all KINDS of things related specifically to those small pieces of art and creating them.

who's interested?

It was a horribly biased book against Borderline Personality Disorder. I mean, even with a title like "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" . . .

I prefer to get old books from Goodwill that are falling apart. I'm also ab bibliophile and can't stand messing up a good book, but sometimes art can give a book a second life.

Okay, let's shift focus here.

Who is up to crafty things for the holidays? Creative gift wrapping, food presentation, decorating, etc?

It is not that good, but a work in progress. I just have not taken the time to fix her lately.

i got this book called collage discovery workshop and want to take old photos of the family and incorporate them into little whimsical pieces of art, making a storyline in one image. on canvas or watercolor paper.

That actually seems like a fantastic gift idea. I've seen a lot of stuff like that in my Altered Art books. There's so much you can do with paper that it's crazy.
