I like the sound of the first one! Posole looks so weird to me and kind of chewy. LOL And I won't eat anything that has a "head" in it. Yuck!

The best part about posole is the chick peas and the toppings. Lime and onions and avocado, a ton of stuff thats chopped up ready for you to throw on as you like.

Trader joes is actually a lot cheaper than whole foods and most health food stores. At least here but a lot of fruits and veggies are grown locally in california so I think the cost is cheaper because of that.

Neither can I. My mom is a sanctimonious hippie, though, and shops there all the time. There ARE some benefits to crazy parents! XD

I love a rich tomato soup or bisque, especially when paired with a grilled cheese.

We have a pretty decent farmer's market here, but Whole Foods is the winner here...I'm not even sure we have a Trader Joe's. The only one I've been to was in Chicago, but I think I had sticker shock from the time I landed at the airport until the time we left so my perception might be off.

We buy our stuff at the grocer and I only buy what's on sale or what's in season.

I think my big thing with a lot of Mexican dishes is that I don't enjoy lime and I think cilantro tastes like soap so a lot of things are off limits or have to be specially ordered and then I just feel like a jackass.

I made a pork soup once with these expanded corn ... it wasn't hominy, was it? Was that called posole? (I bought the hominy because I wanted the cans for pressing cheese, and I found the recipe on the internet. It was crazy-good, though)

I grew up on it so that might be the difference. I was eating eye balls and stuff as an infant. Thats what happens when you grandpa kills goats and things in the basement. Old mexican people are nuts.

Oh yeah, it's all about what you were raised on. My mom was raised on government and PX stuff and I was raised on stuff slightly better than that. The only spices you'll find in our cabinets are garlic, salt, pepper and oregano. We ate a lot of chicken and a lot of pork, but not a lot of beef. And given the option between a real dinner and a piece of fruit, I'd take the fruit everytime.

Id take the dinner everytime. But than again I went through periods of time where all my family could afford was rice and beans. So you eat rice and beans every day for a few weeks you will scarf food down every chance you get.

in the BASEMENT? Shoot, we had a little outbuilding for slaughtering things.

When great grandma would slaughter chickens, that was a Banner Day.

Aw! Now I feel bad. We had months like that too. One dish that we ate a ton of as a kid was macaroni and tomatoes. It's exactly as the name indicates - elbow macaroni boiled to death with a tin of tomatoes and a ton of salt.

I got a lot of my protein at school with their lunches.

My husband loves soups and stews...so does my daughter. My son and I both don't care for them much. I did recently have chicken fajita soup (from a can) that was good and when we go to Chili's they have a soup I try to get.

I may lurk here tonight but not say/do much since I'm not a soup fan.

We do macaroni and tomatoes but we use tomato sauce, add some ground beef. Chicken broth or chicken bouillon salt pepper. And call it shells.

That sounds really good. One thing we like to do is get a box of Hamburger Helper Italian Shells and use chicken instead of beef. It's so much better!
