Have you ever tried Miracle Berries?

Contributor: surreptitious surreptitious
Miracle berries - or their more commonly found counterparts, Mberry tablets - alter your sense of taste and make sour and bitter foods taste sweet! They're a naturally occurring berry that contains an active protein - dubbed "miraculen" by the ever-original scientist team that discovered it - which binds to your tastebuds an inhibits them from firing sour signals, causing the sweet signals to be stimulated instead. The capsules themselves contain nothing but the berry and some cornstarch, to make them stick.

I tried them with a friend, and we found that they did cause tart fruits, like lemons and limes, to taste sweet, as well as enhanced the sweetness of fruits like strawberries, oranges and apples. They worked to make vinegar bearable as well, though it still wasn't exactly delicious (apple cider vinegar, as my friend found out, did not work for some reason). It was a really neat experience, and I'd love to host a flavor party some day!

I have not had an opportunity to try them but I am kind of curious. I thought about buying a Miracle Fruit tree to grow as an indoor plant, but decided on a Key Lime instead (and have been very happy with that!).

Oh gosh - how awesome would it be to have both a key lime tree and a miracle fruit one? You could make the best tasting pies in the world!

I wonder if you can cook with them or if the protein would denature. If you could, it would make pie-making so very, very excellent.

I have never heard of them until now. I think they would be interesting to try out though.

I've had the tablets. I didn't find them to be all that amazing.
But they did work a little bit, they made regular dill pickles taste like sweet pickles.

I really want to try them. A couple friends of mine were raving about them to me a couple weeks ago as a matter of fact. Shame I don't live in the same state as they do, as they occasionally host "flavor tripping" parties.

I tried them once. They worked in that foods tasted differently but not necessarily better lol. We tried them with lemons and while it made the lemons not taste as sour for me, it gave them kind of a funky taste that I did not enjoy. When my boyfriend at the time tried it though he thought it made the lemons taste awesome. So I think they must work differently for different people.

The website that I linked in the initial post has them for sale, I believe, but then can be found on Amazon as well.

Hmm... This could be great for kids who don't like certain foods and such!

I've actually read of some people buying them for those purposes. I feel like it would end poorly in the long term, though.

I tried them. I prefer sour tastes to sweet, so they got old quickly.
