Anyone else suffer from anxiety?

Contributor: bayosgirl bayosgirl
I have anxiety and depression (more anxiety than depression) and today was really rough. I had my first full-blown panic attack in awhile. AND I don't even have emergency medication because I don't have medical insurance and haven't been able to see a doctor (I'm going to find out about seeing one through my church, though.) I guess I'm just looking for some support. Anyone else have anxiety/depression? How do you deal with it?

I have Bipolar and General Anxiety Disorder. I just take lots of medication, so I'm no help with coping mechanisms. Deep breathing does seem to help if I have a panic attack.

I have social anxiety and general anxiety with certain things.

My girlfriend is a wonderful 'coping mechanism' for me, also lots and lots of non-caffiene tea.

I've been fighting with it for years. I have medication now, but without it, it's very difficult. There are helpful supplements over the counter at health food stores, and while they may not shut off the thoughts, they do calm you down physiologically. You have to take them regularly, though, to keep it away. Having a regular practice such as meditation, yoga, walking, etc, really helps. Getting fresh air and vitamin d from the sun always helps. You can't just do it here and there, you have to try to do it every single day for these things to help.

Good luck finding what works for you. If you ever need someone to talk to that understands, send me a message!

I have both amoung other things. Focusing on positive things always help. Or watching a happy movie. Being with someone makes me feel better. Or tea, even the act of making tea is soothing. I used to take meds to calm me down when I had panic attacks. Now i've been trying to deal with it on my own. Anything that is positive and distracts is helpful to me.

When the economy deflated a few years ago, I was in a similar way. I was more depressed than anxious, but both were there. I got some professional help and got better (read: learned how to manage it).

ah! panic attack, oh no. that sounds really rough. i dont have medical insurance but did go to a doctor, paid the $80 to see him, and now pay the $80 a month for pills. it's worth it to me. i have depression and anxiety, mostly depression.

i deal with it pretty poorly honestly... just hole up in my room and sleep with my kitties, or read.. or drink. or call up my boy and have sex with him because it's the only thing that can calm me down in an attack.

the best things to do for myself would be get the energy to get up and go out... take a drive, sit in the woods, and breathe in nature's calm perfection. as it is it's the most i can do to get up to piss.

I used to have both, but no longer have depression and am not on pills. I made my self get off everything. I don't want to put anything like that in my body. I've seen it do more harm than good to most people I know, myself included. I do still have anxiety, but it is much more manageable now. I went to therapy for a long time as a kid and young adult, but have been out of that for years now too. I've learned to control those extremes on my own.

You CAN do it without any chemicals being put in your body.

I suffer from both and had a panic attack a year ago. Know I take medication and meditate daily to control it.

I don't know if there is one where you live but have you looked into Highland Rivers? Highland Rivers is based on a sliding scale fee based on your income. All though I have Medicaid if it weren't for that I would not have been able to probably afford it. Since all of my income is taken up by rent, utilities and my pets.

I had my first visit with the doctor yesterday. He prescribed me anxiety medicine, depression medicine and a prescription for my mood swings. I have seen a difference since I took my pills yesterday. I have my first group therapy this Thursday (Feb. 2nd).

When I am really in an anxiety attack the only thing that seems to help me is to either watch one of my favorite shows or listen to Michael Jackson (only his music seems to help me when I am depressed or having an anxiety attack), to keep my mind and hands busy I will crochet or knit while watching something or while listening to Michael Jackson.

Oh yeah, I definitely have several general and social anxiety. I have medication for it, but I've found that seeing videos of baby animals calms me down.

I've had pretty bad symptoms of anxiety (derealization, depersonalization, panic attacks, etc.), but I'm too cautious to take medication for it :\. I may look into CBT or something that doesn't require medication in the near future.

I used to, but I overcame it with sheer will. I know the foundations are still there, but I keep it away.

Yes, I have anxiety (diagnosed, have meds, the whole shebang). I've had a handful of panic attacks. When I told my therapist, she said to just keep in mind that it won't last forever, it'll be okay, and just ride it out. I know it doesn't sound like much, but in all honesty, it helped. Just knowing what it was and that it would be over soon was enough for me. It lasted maybe a minute (the feeling like you're overcome with dread and that something is terribly, terribly wrong), and then it went away.

The general anxiety and depression are well-managed through medication, and I see my counselor twice a month.

Hugs to you! I certainly know how you're feeling.

I suffer from severe anxiety

I suffer from severe anxiety, pain attacks and depression. I'm on several medicines for that.

Before I got them though here's what I would do and still sometimes do along with meds.

Deep Breathing along with calming scents (like Aromatherapy) and chill out music.

Chakra meditation or any other guided meditation with positive affirmations and calming music.

Stress balls! Can't say that enough.

Taking a day just for yourself, bath, a stay-cation if you will.
But do this weekly even if you can only have a few hours. Make use of it.

Listen to music that makes you happy, watch your fave movies, do whatever make you feel best and avoid caffeine it makes panic attacks worse and more likely to happen. If you need any more help or support or just want to talk just message me. I'm happy to help. *hugs you* I wish you the best of health and good luck. -Leia
