It's a practice I need to get back in to. For too long (the past three months) I've been going to the store without a list and with no menus planned.

I canned tomatoes last year...they didn't do too well. Not sure what I did wrong but I do freeze many of our veggies from the garden even tomatoes.

CherryReadHead: Oh yes McD's and BB are good and bad. Good cause of their dollar menu is great on the pocket when you out going on interviews or doing errands & are starving bad cause its not healthy.

BBW: yes that would be nice if you could tell me what those supplements are. I looked up what food is good for energy and oatmeal was one of them but then I saw in other places they said oatmeal was good to help go to sleep. So I am like eh?

I feel as though I would screw it up horribly, but with time I'm sure you'll get better with it. It's a bit of an art, and takes a bit of practice.

Freezing is a good option too.

I say the same thing eating healthy is expensive and I always thought why can't healthy food be quick and cheap like the food at the fast food places.

Wednesday evenings then. That's the great thing about the forums! It's always here! You never really miss!

Note for people reading and catching up later on: I will be keeping up with this thread until the next month's meeting. Even if you aren't here for the meeting itself, this is the place to make ideas and suggestions for future meetings!

You got it. When my mom woke up on Saturday, she would make these enormous meals and then freeze or can them. Then when I would get home from school during the week, I could just pop one open, heat and eat.

Another thing she did was to buy a juicer and make gallons of juice (different kinds), that could be frozen into pop-sickles.

a friend of mine told me the same. I just have to budget wisely I only half of March's rent.

Freezing is great. There are lots of healthy, inexpensive soups you can make that freeze wonderfully. My taco soup is one of them.

Sam, did you try it yet?

I think planning ahead is a great idea! I get so busy during the week I don't have time to think half the time.

I have also read about cooking healthy meals ahead of time and freezing them in portions for later.

My mom just got herself one of those things that like, steams out the juice as a concentrate or something like that. She's used it to make fruit juice from scratch that actually tastes really really good. It cans well, and this summer we'll make popsicles and ice cubes from it too.

I've said to my mother on many occasions that when we move out, we're still gonna come by for canned food, she laughed, lol.

I haven't had a chance yet. But I haven't had a chance to really cook much of anything yet. It's saved tho, and I will make it one day, I promise!

I don't think I could or would want to make my own food. For one, in apartment living with a guy who's allergic to greenery, it just wouldn't work. For two, it does sound like a lot of work. It sounds neat though.

GOALS!

I want us to all have a goal every month. Most habits are formed in 21 days. This means we should take, at minimum, this amount of time to create healthy habits! What this will do is give everyone in the community something we all have in common. We can encourage each other on our pages. We can message with each other on other threads and see how we’re doing with the goal. Keep up with each other on other social networks (Twitter, Facebook); however you communicate with others outside the forum!

There are a couple of ideas I have for the goal for this month. One that I was thinking would be a great thing to start with as the goal is sleep. Sleep is how our body regenerates. It burns calories during sleep, it fights infection during sleep, it heals during sleep, it also helps us deal with subconscious issues psychologically. Any nutritionist, doctor, trainer, whoever, will tell you that getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night is going to be crucial to your health. So one goal could be to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, no excuses.

Another idea I had was water intake. Drinking a minimum of 64 ounces (1893 mL) of water every day is very important to every function your body performs. I mean every: from growing hair to going to the bathroom to moving your arms. If you aren’t getting enough water, all your systems break down. You end up putting on weight because your body tries to retain every bit of fluid you ingest.

So which of these two ideas interest you more? Or do you have something else you think would be better?

I think so. She likes canning, she finds it very therapeutic, and she loves it when the things she makes get eaten, so I don't see her having any issues unless we come by and take literally everything. But this will be in like, a year, lol.
