A Warning to Blogspot Bloggers!

Contributor: bluekaren bluekaren
Hi Everyone!
I had an adult blog at blogspot that I started in October of last year. I blog 3-5 times a week. I get about 10,000 hits a month. It was by no means a spam blog. Monday I was on e[lust] for the first time....and I posted the latest issue.
The next Morning (yesterday), my blog was deleted!
You can't imagine my horror!!!
I had 102 individual blog posts, with pics....and I actually had an Eden Fantasys contest going and everything.

It is gone now!

I got lucky yesterday and I acted fast. I "found" my blog content in my google reader- I copied and pasted everything into word. I then got to work on finding a webhost (that supports adult blogs) and I bought a domain. I am now using wordpress, I probably should have been doing this the whole time but in my ignorance...well, I AM learning!

Google didn't give me a reason for my blog to be deleted. They sent me a standard letter about possible reasons (spam blog, money-making blog) and like 5 steps to get my blog back...MAYBE in 3-5 business days.
They wanted me to jump through all there hoops. Just to live under the fear that it could happen again on blogspot??
Forget it!
My blog is my baby, my place to vent and tell my stories and be creative. I feel so violated.

Keep a copy of all your original work. Be careful who you advertise with on blogspot (black label ads will get you deleted for sure, I have heard). Protect your content. I would hate for this to happen to one of you guys.

If you wanna exchange links...I am at http:kissinbluekaren.c om
(My blog is NSFW and includes sexually explicit pics and content)

Yikes! I'm so sorry that happened. Thanks for reminding us all to keep backups, that's very important. If you don't mind saying, what host are you using now?

I wish you the best with your new blog!

I would probably rage all over the floor. I am SO sorry to hear about that. It makes me consider moving to my own domain name... Does anyone have any advice on good ways to back blogs up? (Other than copy/pasting each entry into Word)

That really sucks! I'm glad you managed to get your content and a domain! I'm really happy I moved over to my own domain now - mine was on blogspot for ages, but I was always worried about something happening like that.

Did you have on there that it contained adult material? I don't want that happening to my blog!

I got flagged for adult content about 3 weeks ago, I put the adult content question page up...but I don't think that is why it went down.
Not only that but when you got to my page all you saw was a clean pic of me and a big blurb about how the page has adult content and it was for over 18 only....

Storm Black Label Ads is a company that helps build revenue for bloggers that have adult style blogs. They promote adult sites. Blogspot does not allow black label ads. I read a whole lot of forums about blogs being deleted for "black label" ads.

Thanks Storm!

Your pics, if they were uploaded via the blog are not lost, they will be in picassa under the email addy and pass you used for blogspot.

What is a good way to back up blogs? I have the base content from while I was writing it, but not the comments. There's something like VisualWget, but I haven't messed with it to see if it works.

I have all my pics still, thanks!
I am now using host gator web hosting, I saw an ad on Dan & Jennifer log about them. If you use the code "BlogSuccessJournal" you will get the first month free. I had to call their customer service and they walked me through everything.
In order to make my blog user friendly I am using wordpress, the free version.
Howells, if you decide to go that route and you have questions...feel free to ask. I was able to get my blog back up within a few hours. I think host gator has software that can help you tranfer existing content to a new site rather seamlessly.

Mainly I wish to set up my own image hosting service. Not like the big ones out there, but if I or my friends need to upload an image, any kind of image I want something that is safe to use and I know they won't be removing it. It's like if I want to add a pic here on the forums or to a review, I currently can't. Also was thinking about writing reviews but EF provides a fine platform to do that. Anyhow it could still be good someday, thanks for the tip.

I'm confused... was it the adult content or the use of these "Black Label Ads" that were the most likely culprit? I mean, what's the point of having the adult content option on blogger if they'll pull your blog for it?

Thank god you were able to retrieve your content somehow! I would have a heart attack!

Wow! You know, I've hear about this happening by hundreds of people. It's sad because a lot of us work extremely hard on our blogs. I would be truly crushed! I have one at blogspot too and I'm always worried about it being deleted. You're right, google will NOT give you reasons. It's been happening for over a year to people. I honestly hate google. The only reason I've not moved to a wordpress blog is because I tried and couldn't even access the shi* It was FAR too complicated for me!

I really don't think they should be able to just delete a blog. You are lucky though that you were able to relocate your content. Most people say they try signing in one day and BAM! Their blog is gone and they contact blogger and google and NEVER hear a freaking word! Hay, that gives me an idea... why don't we do something to stop it. You know we could start up a pretty good petition to stop these things. I may think about doing that because we work WAY too hard on our blogs and many of us have very important content.

They should at least HAVE to give you exact details on their reasons for deleting. I don't think a blog should ever be deleted unless it's soemthing serious like dedicated to supporting abuse, rape, animal cruelty or something to that extreme nature. Blogs are too important.

I have a question, does anyone know, if you purchase the domain name thingy will they still be able to delete your blog any old time? I've been considering getting my blog to have it's own domain rather than stupid blogspot. I love blogspot, but I hate how they go about things. So many people have lost alot because of hidden rules and crazy terminations of blogs that aren't harmful.

I didn't use Black Label Ads, I have just heard that people who did got deleted. I never did get a reason for being deleted and I'm sure I never will. I just wanted to share what happened to me as a warning to those of you that use them.

Actually, I joined e[lust] and after posting the edition that featured my post, my whole blog was gone. ....I look bad to the readers of e[lust] and the people who contribute.

Kendra, Blogspot is free. They can do whatever they want with it. The point is that you don't have the power over if they delete your content. The fact that they did it without batting an eye, well that is just how they are. My little blog was no big deal to them. I would post the domain question on a google forum, someone might be able to answer for you. They have a lot of technical geeks that follow those forums. Good luck!
