I'm very sorry to hear about your father in law, and you're absolutely right. If cremation was his wish, then it's up to you guys to make that happen for him and it's good that you're fulfilling his wishes. Your father in laws other children (if there are any) would be able to have a say, but that's really it. People who aren't related at all have no say, and I'm sending your whole family lots of big hugs, because hugs are always free. *HUGS*

It really does speak to the fact that writing, like music or any art form, connects and resonates with people in ways that are based in their own life experiences. The appreciation is always subjective... which is, of course, why we like to have so many different reviews and perspectives!

I'm so sorry for your loss, and for the audacity of people to act like that when you're going through this. And yes, laughter can be great medicine for a time like this.

Try going in the evening, when everybody is eating.
There's a lot of college kids in the area, so dinner time is between like, 6 and 10 lol. If there's a warm night we might be able to go out after the noise restrictions are in place and there are less boats too.

Thank you, I agree. My husband is an only child, and my father in law does have 1 living sister, but we all agree on his wishes, its people who knew him through church that are giving us problems. 2 people came right out and said "well, I want him buried and a veiwing" ...... so what, do you want a lollipop to? that wasn't his choice! ARGH! so glad I will not have to deal with these people after this.

Not yet! I'm 34 weeks pregnant, but baby is measuring BIG-- 6 lbs 10 oz. So while I'm hoping he'll stay put until September, we're looking at a C-section delivery the last week in August.

I think it's good to have one or two controversial stories in an anthology, and I'll use an occasional piece that doesn't appeal to me personally but is well written and provides variety and food for thought. For one thing, even hating something gets the blood flowing, and for another, even stories you love can be too much of the same thing after awhile. Stories that upset you can clear the palate, in a sense, or provide a sort of "punctuation" that leaves you all the readier for something that suits your taste. Okay, this is all spur-of-the-moment theory, but it may make sense.

I'm not bothered by readers having a prudish streak — to each their own, but I'm alarmed by it in editors since they control what will eventually be released to the masses. On the one hand I feel like they have an obligation to be more open-minded, but on the other hand that's the privilege of being the editor — you get to pick what makes it into print and what doesn't.

Don't let them bully you into one. Seriously, doctors will try to push them on you to make their schedules easier. It is a disgusting practice, and very rarely something offered out of necessity rather than convenience. If you can afford to, maybe consult a midwife.

Maybe baby will share my birthday, August 29. It's a good day to be born.

exactly, in reviews or readers I expect it, but as an editor you are there to think about the audiences who would read it, not your own personal veiw on it.

My guess is that you offended twatwaffles everywhere.
Luckily, you can make it up by buying any offended twatwaffle a shirt:
